  1. Ben was looking at getting some old rims, but putting blocks of wood in the rims so they didn't dig into the ground. Just get some 2x4 and a hammer and your away. Supposedly some plant / fork lift trucks something like that where they are likely to pick up punctures. I have an old disco wheel / tyre that was my spare (it's a little under sized now ) that you can have. It'd get you half way there!.
  2. Stange, is the diff nose bearing OK? The extra stress of the larger angle on the prop might show up slight play?
  3. I had the same on my disco after I fitted castor corrected arms. I went for a wide angle double cardon prop and that did the trick. Are the props new / balanced?
  4. Any idea where you can get the conversion kits from? I'm sure lots of people (including me) would be interested
  5. Isn't 40 mircrons bigger than 20 microns? so your saying the additional bypass filter is worse at filtering than the standard filter? Also, having 2 filters in a system will be better than 1, and why the need to keep the original filter if these are so good? I also think you are a little misinformed about the big car manufacturers. Dealerships are independent for most of the big manufacturers, so the only profit they see from a car service would be from parts, such as filters (which in the case you give you still need to buy filters). A lot of these companies vehicle sales are in fact to the fleet market, such as company cars, where a big deciding factor for which car company gets the contract is vehicle running costs, so there is a constant push to reduce service costs as it is a deal breaker. Case and point, on modern Land Rovers the gearbox oil is no longer considered a service item, it is there for the life of the vehicle. Maybe if you include a magnet on the filter it would also reduce the friction in the engine by aligning the oil molecules, might even get a 50% fuel saving!
  6. Thanks for all the replies, I rebuilt the master cylinder and put some new discs and pads on the rear and it passed fine. Might have been a mix of both, but the brakes to feel nice and firm now!
  7. Thanks, was going to start stripping down tonight but thats a good check of master cylinder. I've got a flaring kit already, just need a bit of copper pipe. I guess I can even do this on the car as a very quick check!
  8. Cheers Si, I didn't realise you could buy seal kits for them so I'll give that a go. Whilst its in the post I'll swap the lines round tonight, even if it doesn't lock the tyres (I have 33x12.5's on) and I don't fancy going very quick as if I'm right, I won't stop very well. I should at least be able to see how much the front nose dives at low speed.
  9. Morning all, I'm after a bit of advice from people's experience. My disco failed its MOT at the weekend on rear brake effort, the % was too low compared to the front. The numbers for each side weren't too dissimilar, and although the rear pads and discs aren't new, they don't look old enough to be causing the issue (but I will change them anyway just to be sure). We figured it is likely to be low brake pressure and the MOT guys thoughts were it would be the pressure valve that reduces the brake pressure to the rear brakes to stop them locking up. These are quite expensive and just wondered if anybody knows of a way to test if this is faulty, or if its the brake master cylinder as I think this is split between front and rear system. Would swapping the front and rear lines to the master cylinder show up any fault in this? Thanks
  10. Don't worry Pete will of course run the event properly, don't shoot him down just yet! He has helped me with MSA events before, not saying this will neccesserily be an MSA event, but he does know what is involved :-) I'm sure full rules and regs will be posted when everything is set.
  11. What is the entrance to the site like? Is it a road or farm track? Just wondering if I come in the golf and same time + fuel, or the disco (not to compete in :-p)
  12. It should eat props if it's standard height. Are you towing heavy loads (a guess if you have helper air bags) so this may not help? Any slack in the diff? this coupled with heavy towing loads mgiht cause this? You could try a new prop or get the current one reconditioned with new UJ's and slider (should be cheaper) then you can find out if it's a problem with the car or with used parts.
  13. There are also aftermarket air springs you can fit, think they are around £130 that are air helper springs. May be worth a google? As for fitting D2 air springs, if you want to go for it, but if it was me I would make sure I do it in a way I could go back to coils if I needed to. As for the work involved, must be modifying spring mounts and fitting an air compressor with some way of controlling the air bag pressure.
  14. Could also use a quickfist, they make them big enough for a fire extinguisher. Not sure how much they are though
