  1. The CO2 being produced by China is staggering. I think personal awareness and reasonable attempts to cut ommisions is a good thing, but deep down I know if everyone in the UK were zero producers of carbon, it would make very little difference to the environment. All the up and coming economies are producing carbon at an alarming rate. Unfortunately with current population growth, and with a hunger for a taste of the western life style, there will be no going back now. It really is too late. I may get through this in my life time (really not sure about that), but i do fear the my kids future.
  2. Thanks Mo, just couldn't see it. Mine seems much closer to the front grill. Did you have to move it back for the winch to fit?
  3. Good reply! Sometimes I wonder who they employ for these insurance companies. I phoned mine today about travel to Romania in January. Usually I have to pay extra for this as outside of EU. However, RO join January 1st. Simple request, do I need a new green card as RO crossed? (It also states all EU countries included) I can imagine the confusion this would cause on the border. The fella at Ins comp said, I quote, no you won't be covered. Your green card is only valid in UK and germany and countries in between on route!!!! Just made it up whilst drinking red bull! Asked to speak to his supervisor who said I was covered for all EU countries and would be fully covered for RO in Jan 07. So frustrating. Do you know if all mods have to be reported to insurance companies, and where is the line drawn? Snorkel etc? Cheers, Paul.
  4. Please excuse my ignorance, but where is your radiator?
  5. Thanks Matt, Where were the 'couple of belters'? I am keeping a folder on my laptop for all the recommendations, to build up a bit of a picture of Europe and North Africa. Will come in useful when touring. I find a lot of the camp site guides misleading as often written by the sites themselves then they pay for a submission into guide. Nothing like, and you can't beat personal recommendation. Cheers, Paul.
  6. What were the campsites like, facilities, safety etc?
  7. If you do go East, Slovenia is lovely as is Hungary, especially around lake Balaton. If you go further east into Romania, I may be in Transylvania in February. I have a plot of land in a village. You could camp there if you wanted. It is behind a fence with double gates and my inlaws run a small shop next door for supplies. Cheers, Paul.
  8. I have a Golden retriever. He would remain asleep even if King Kong came round for a cup of tea. If he did wake up, slobber would be the biggest deterrent!
  9. Yes Peter, we are allowed to get VAT free goods in Germany through the sofor agreement. We get a quote for VAT free price, then I pay Army the money. They produce a cheque to the company quoting with an official letter in German giving authorisation for VAT free entitlement. Cheers, Paul
  10. £80?? Surely someone could knock one up for cheaper than that? Nice idea though.
  11. Nice posting Les. I had my drop arm changed recently by a LR German dealership. They said they had big problems getting the old one off. If they did use heat would a steering box seal failure generally happen straight away? Cheers, Paul.
  12. Thanks Peter, That is quite away away 300+ miles. Do you have workshops & fitting service, or do you only sell parts? Would you sell MwSt free, as I am working here as civilian with British Army? Cheers, Paul.
  13. That looks great. Looks more like a cockpit on an aircraft! You have obviously got your sat nav issues sorted. What do you do with several screens? I hope you keep your rig locked up at night with all that kit on display. Cheers, Paul
  14. Thanks guys, still chewing this one over. If it wasn't for work I could devote more time on these projects. Just doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day. This PDA I take it connects to a GPS in the same way as a laptop would. Cables of some sort connect PDA to GPS, and both are powered via cigarette lighter? Scanned mapping, I presume is literally scanned and loaded on PDA. How does this work with GPS? I understand there is no routing, so is it a positioning system using scanned maps? Cheers, Paul.
  15. There are some people on this site! Thanks for your reply. What would you recommend? 1. I need something that is not too bulky and can easily be removed from LR. 2. Reasonable price, not top end. 3. Something useful on and off road in Romania. Please don't give me choices. This has been the root of many of my problems. Some do this and some do that, and it then it all becomes a bit confusing. A good all round package that is user friendly. Cheers, Paul.
  16. If you are going to there a while longer you may as well get the LR over. Come up to Transylvania, you will like it. Is there much oil left in Ploiesti? I thought the Germans plundered most of it for their war machine during WW2. Cheers, Paul.
  17. Got the new seal, so will put it back in later. What a pain getting all the glue off from the old one! Took half the paint off as well. There must be an easier way than simple elbow grease? Cheers, Paul.
  18. Hi, That looks very impressive! Are you based in NRW? Cheers, Paul
  19. Thanks for that, very helpful. Updates as well! I live in Germany, but my land and future business is in the county Jud Covasna, in a small village near Targu Secuiesc. This is about 3.5-4 hours from Bucharest depending on traffic. One hour further than Brasov if that helps. What are you doing in Bucharest? Cheers, Paul.
  20. Thanks Les, I will get some extension bars and give is a go. I would rather change the jubilee clip now, instead of it giving when the rust makes its way through what is left of the metal. Cheers, Paul
  21. Thanks Les, Sorry to be a bit thick. Is header tank and expansion tank the same thing? If it is, then that is how I did it. I disconnected the two pipes then lowered them down between the fan cowling and engine block. I will have a look around for the steel jubilee clips. The one holding the bottom rad pipe looks particularly bad, but I couldn't reach it with a screwdriver anyway. Cheers, Paul.
  22. You will not believe it. Went out in the LR this evening. It started raining and guess what? Yes you guessed it a wet foot! Left foot for me though. Water running down the clutch pedal. I have already whipped off the vent shield, and have just spent the last hour trying to remove the crumbling seal and horrible sticky back plastic. That will teach me for all the pi** taking I did at your expense. Humble apologies.
  23. Thanks guys, very impressive sites all round. As I said before I am willing to pay for such a service. Cheers, Paul.
  24. Forget about fa**ing, you will be sh***ing yourself after reading this. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14834318/ Even more worrying is that is one of the more serious US scientific experts, that is respected for his past work and predictions!
