Currently have a m57 & 8hp fitted into my 110 which was previously a td5 (2004 my)
Up until recently I ran a 1.4 transfer box which in conjunction with 33" tall tyres meant that the speedo was bang on,
Recently swapped to a 1.2 transfer box that came from a 300tdi auto, annoyingly the td5 speedo drive won't go into the square drive of the fitted 1.2 transfer box, so it looks like I need to change the square drive,
So the question for the hive mind is what speedo drive gear do I need ?
Looks like I will end up buying the steel housing piece as I have a feeling it won't come out the tbox in once lump,
Picture for your pleasure

Oy just did mine! -does that put me in this bucket? 🤔🤣
Very doable only thing needed to make it work outside the doner was power to the loom and a bod of soldering as we moved the 10as to sit beside the ecu. after all, a td5 defender isn't really that highlevel computerwise 🙂
Although reusing as much as possible from the donor (90->110) all the small parts quick count up the pennies. I am still "stuck" with an elderly engine and I found myself in the workshop just yesterday mending the fan pulley bearing... BUT it is a nice engine that transforms the car (was a 2,5td and 300tdi for many moons) and I regrett not doing it sooner (another td5 engine have been living in the workshop for 7 years but this one turned up on just the right point, or my mate put the donor car in a tree on just the right point in time 🙄)
But it took some time getting it fitted and timewise a Renovation of the/a 200tdi will be far faster.

Wait till you take the tedious 5 out & fit something even more modern, absolute revelation 👀

Hmmm maybe you could persuade me to take the disco 200tdi out of my 90 and I will put an M57 in 🤔
Range rover classic 200tdi engine near here with 172k on the clock £650 on facebook but a long way from you
Friend has just sold his 200tdi to a guy in Sweden who drove to Scotland to collect it for several thousand pounds, paid a big chunk towards the bmw conversion

@RedLineMike would likely be able to shed some light on the ECU side of having it run outside of the disco.
TD5 conversions are now so easy all the scrotes & undesriables are doing them

I think that was a pre booked pre-booked event Mike, with Walters AM honouring those who have paid up to a cut off date.
Interestingly WAM isn't the only site closing it's doors to 4x4 events. I know of two others going the same way. I know the owner of one site very well and I've been trying to find out why...
my vague understanding of the AWDC safari at walters situation, is that WAM are picking the course layout & then the AWDC are agreeing to it, id love to be wrong but thats how i believe its happening going forwards, its also worth noting that the AWDC have another 3 safaris there this year i think with 2 being right at the tail end of the season

i dont think its coming out the wastegate shaft bushing, id suspect its coming from the manifold to head gasket looking at picture 2

Looks good! Did you lift it?
it has a mild lift, on OME springs & shocks all round,

What do you do about the panhard rod mounting ?
I don't like the idea of cutting away the spring pan fillet.
the blackbird kit has the panhard rod mounting as part of the adapter to fit the p38 box

i cant say if its better or worse longterm, it certainly gives more space in the engine bay going to the P38 box, with my conversion with the electric turbo actuator, it is really close to the steering box but still has clearance
-
However unless your using a twin turbo engine, an m57 with a low mount air con pump does fit without needing to swap to the p38 box

theres one forsale on FB market place at the moment reasonably local to me in Airdrie, comes with a cummins 6bt as well

just swapped my td5 for a M57, should have done it years ago,
my only caveat is that although it is better on fuel than the td5 ever was, i like to make progress so that along with a roofrack & rooftent do hurt the mpg -
I'm guessing either 4l80 or 6l80?
What propshaft & flange are you trying to fit?
I know on my bm conversion it's very close to the sump with how the adapter clocks the transfer box slightly

these would be my suggestion,

Vector winch?
vector runs from the winch mid mounted rearwards, round a pulley then forwards out the chassis leg,
the way @Daan is suggesting would be winch mounted in the rear cross member but facing forwards, so single line out the front & double line out the back, theres a few ultra 4 cars set up with roughly the same setup -
i feel slightly sad that the 8274 has been removed inplace of a lowline 😆

In which case I'd probably suggest looking out for a set of 40-1250-17 treps on the used market, generally they are the competition compound so softer than normal tyres
-
What size of tyre are you needing? As used 40" treps arent overly expensive for the size of them,
-
quite heavy & not overly agressive

Lt230 speedo drive gear

In theory yes, but at the moment I can't get the old drive out the transfer box, I think someone has tried in the past as well because the housing has a chunk out if it
