  1. Try Heritage, Lancaster didn't want to offer me a renewal on my 110 (and no, no mods or claims !)
  2. have a look at the series 3 90-110 club website, here's the link to their shop http://www.ekmpowershop18.com/ekmps/shops/series3owners/books-17-c.asp
  3. I used to have the same symptoms on my toyota corolla d4d, it only had 40k. Turned out to be a couple of injectors. HTH
  4. 135k here, owned abused by a previous pikey owner... Still running with a couple of new conrods as they were bent, head, turbo and lift pump (and it still made it from Lincolnshire to Switzerland without a breakdown). Breathes heavily but alright for a weekend toy. You know the saying : If it ain't broke...
  5. I've been insured with Lancaster for the last 5 years and this year at renewal they said their underwriters criterias had changed and they were no longer able to provide me with insurance for the coming year. I'm 30, earned 5 years NCD on that policy, didn't make any claims. (10 years NCD on my other car's policy !) . Got a 110 hardtop 2.5td 19j with very little mods and 3k a year, was paying 400. Gone with heritage now, 240 fully comp for the same coverage... Just no consistency in between insurers or brokers in the way they calculate premiums or set their criterias !
  6. Might be stating the obvious here but is the ecu being powered up (ie getting it's 12v feed)? You could potentially have a wiring fault.
  7. Try the 4x4 solutions in Ashford (kent) old LR experience site with instructors I can recommend.
  8. My F'reg 110 hardtop with HD suspension (from factory, 3500kg gvw registered as light 4x4 utility) has been MOT'd as a class 4 for the last couple of years. It hasn't got windows in the back. When I queried it with the MOT station they said that when they entered the details in the DVLA system that's what it came as. It used to be class 7 3 years ago...
  9. I'm going to line the roof with the egg shell style mats from noise killer, tested it at billing a couple of years back and it was quite impressive. The rest will probably be done with fatmat, or the noise killer 110 hardtop kit. I'll source some nitromors then ! Looking forward to do the roof... Thanks for your advice
  10. Hi, The previous owner of my 110 thought that the inside of the panels would rust so applied uneven coats of hammerite inside (please, don't go there ). I would appreciate advice on removing that scruffy carp paint from the roof and side panels (it's a hardtop and multi coloured inside!) as I'm planning to insulate the whole lot this summer. It's half peeling off and don't fancy wasting expensive self adhesive materials for it to peel off a week later !!! I haven't got the luxury of a driveway (might be able to borrow a drive in shed!), would the old paint stripper (decapant in french, gluppy stuff and pretty messy/toxic) stuff do the job with the roof in place or should I go convertible for a few days? Cheers
  11. Guys, many thanks for your advice. I'm going to buy it, change the cambelt, water pump and rear crank oil seal prior to fitting it and go from there. It looks like it's been well maintained, got fresh filters and all the fluids look decent. It's got a slight leak from the rocker cover gasket but nothing like my current one!!!
  12. I'd love to rebuild it but I don't think I have the skills. I'm borrowing a mate's shed for the install as I only have a communal parking at home! It seems to run really well and smokes far less than my 19J (which is not hard). I'm thinking it must have had some sort of rebuild during that 250k for it to not smoke that much... The only problem is that I can't test drive it as it has a snapped clutch fork. Quite tempted to rebuild it, what would be the way to go? I'm thinking new pistons, rings, honing the bores, new oil pump and possibly have a gas flowed exchange head from turners. Maybe have the injectors and pump tested? I'm hesitating to just fit the engine as is and do the necessary work once it's in my 110 (it's a weekend toy after all). Obviously while it's out fit a new cambelt kit, rear crank seal and water pump. Cheers
  13. Hi, Time has come to replace the asthmatic 19J in my 110. A mate of mine has a discovery 200tdi that had done 250k, the engine seems to run very well considering the high astronomical mileage. It doesn't smoke and the coolant fluid looks good. Looks like that disco was looked after rather well. The previous owner sorned it because of the clutch fork snapping. My only concern is the lack of service history and mileage ! As I don't have much experience with 200tdis I'd like to know what the general opinion is. Should I expect to get another few years service out of it or should I look elsewhere? In advance thanks for your opinions
  14. As stated above a MT tyre wont be great especially on ice. A decent AT tyre like BFG AT or General grabbers AT2 will be fine (they are all season tyres). Used some BFG AT's during winter in Switzerland and couldn't fault them. General Grabbers AT2's are currently fitted to my 110 and they where great the last few winters. If not, go for some proper winter tyres (michelin 4x4 alpin for example). An S rated tyre for speed means max 112mph. Q is 99mph and T is 118mph which i doubt you will be reaching in winter conditions. HTH
  15. Try Sewell of Leeds, got a boost and main diaphragm from them a couple of years ago.
  16. Bought mine from Sewell of leeds (http://www.sewellofleeds.co.uk/) a while ago, part number : 7243-006, product line: CAV HTH
  17. Could be the valve in your lift pump letting diesel drain back to the tank once engine is switched off. Had a similar issue on my 2.5td
  18. And avoid the yellow concentrated cr*p from hellfrauds even during summer (comes in a 5L blue container), smears like hell. Pretty dangerous stuff, should be banned
  19. Congrats on your purchase ! Don't forget that a 4x4 only provides more traction but is heavy too which will increase your braking distances compared to smaller motors. Make sure you have decent tyres (I use decent quality AT's which are rated for snow. They work well by swiss standard). Forget the brakes, plan ahead and use engine breaking. I would use high range most of the time. When pulling out, do it at tickover without using the accelerator to avoid wheelspin (and loss of traction). And if you struggle engage difflock (you should have ABS/traction control which will be ace in snow!) Just take it easy, find a car park and learn how it behaves. HTH
  20. You will have time to have (only just) lunch or supper in Morocco and turn back ! Cool challenge but all that driving (not in a v12 aston) for just a meal, maybe a night? I'd rather take a cattle flight there in that time frame. Good luck ! edit: hope you factor in traffic too, hope you make it
  21. Hi, My 89 110 also needs a replacement rear cross member! Can anybody recommend a decent garage / mechanic in the surrey/west sussex area? Cheers
  22. Got a speedo you can have a look at ! Just been on the micronas website and found a uk distributor, I'll send an enquiry from my prof. email tomorrow !
