  1. Ha fair enough! Yeah it's normally when slowing and breaking ie for a junction or slow turn into a car park!
  2. Ah fair enough! Well he might have said something else I was half asleep! Well I'll look for a diagnostic computer I Suppose! It always restarts though straight after stalling!
  3. Hi there all, My disco ( mk2 2004 v8 auto) is randomly stalling with no warning no juddering etc. In fact it is so smoothly stalling I havn't noticed it apart from when it has happened whilst drivin along. I have no ideas a mechanic friend checked the air pipes all look fine. His idea was to clean the carbs? Any one else had this problem! And any ideas? Cheers chris
  4. Cheers Guys will try that and see what happens!
  5. Hi all, I have a V8 2004 with 125000 KM on it. (auto) I use it to commute and also offroad (dunes tracks) It has been well maintained however yesterday it started vibrateing badly when deccelerating and when accelerating and when cruising over 120 KPH. Also the revs drop very low when reverse is engaged and some strange clunking noise (not there before)(more prounounced in low ratio) One Tappet is definitly lifting as well. The fluids are all ok including the diffs. I also had the front prop shaft changed not long ago 100000 KM Any ieas what it could be? My ideas were gearbox/diff/rear prop shaft? but then im defintily not an indepth mechanic basic only. cheers eveyone!
  6. Hi there streaky! i have been out for only 6 months but loving it! Yeah i have noticed i am definitly a landrover fan and the idea was to improve my mechanical skills through fixing the car up and potentially adding some upgrades etc! however as im useing it a lot of the time to comute to abu dhabi. So if i was to get the patrol how much should i expect to pay for a decent model without to many ks and maybe 05 ish? And are they really that reliable. i have also heard they are easy to mod in a similar fasion to the landrover is this true? unfortunatly i have fallen in love with the landy though which could be an expensive choice!
  7. Well im a bit of a mechanical novice but am game to have a go however all i have is a car parkign space in an appartment block. apperently for the air con side its the parts that are expensive they are saying 2000 aed for the evaporator reviver dryer 670 aed expansion valve 750 aed gas etc 150 aed As a rough conversion divide by 6 As for the lr3 i take the disco offroad in the desert mountains beach etc however i also use it to get to work so can't really mod it to much! The lr3 seems a pretty handy beast from what i have seen!
  8. Hi peeps, I paid 35,000 dhirams 5 grand (pounds)for my v8 04 disco! Thought it was a good buy but in the months after buying, it has started having a fair few probs that i didn't think excisted when i bought it. Its now cost me around 48,000 dhriams total to keep it alive, its going to cost me another 8000 (1,200 quid) to get the air con up and running. So far its had a massive oil water leak from the head gasket fixed, new prop shaft, susspension ball joints replaced and a few others. Ive been offered a good deal on an lr3 however im loving the older disco at the mo expecially offroad so what should i do? carry on and hope i don't have to pay much more to keep it running? as i know that seems to be the charm of landys they just love eating money! is it worth it or shall i sack it off for the newer model with warantee? Is this disco going to keep sucking my money away? Cheers everyone!
  9. Doh! although its only when accelerateing from about 5 mins of starting it! then it seems to stop but it is definitly getting worse, im quite concerened about it! Its quite a mystery to me! i have only heard that before with the tappets, the mileage is on 100,000 km. I also do a bit of roading in the dunes and desert and don't particularly want the engine conking out in the desert!!!!
  10. hmmm this is slightly different its when your accelerating up to about 60 kph and can somtimes be noticeable when hot! any ideas? Idle i think its quiet maybe it does it in drive im not to sure!
  11. Hi everyone! I have a 2004 v8 disco, and there is a strange tapping noise mainly noticable when starting from cold and gets less noticeable when hot but still there. The garage checked the oil pressures for the hyrdraulic tappets and they were all fine. So does anyone have any idea what it could be? should i just run with it and forget about it? Could it be cylinder damage? or rod bearing damage? Cheers in advance!
  12. Hi im new to the forum and i bought my first landrover disco out here in dubai. Its a v8 2004 (petrol) mark 2 i think! Not being very knowledgeable about mechanics i am doing my best to learn! However after it developed a tapping noise from the engine (i thought it was the tappets)i took it to the landrover garage (al tayer) and they have rung me today saying that its somthign to do with the piston or the rod bearings they also checked out an oil leak from the rear of the engine and are now saying thats an oil leak from the head gasket. They have quoted me 16000 aed for the oil leak alone! 2666 quid!!!! And i dread to think about the other job! A few weeks ago the leak was supposedly fixed in another service center which they quoted as the intake manifold gasket which i understand to be above the head gasket, could the suposed head gasket leak be a rememant of this other leak? Sorry if that made no sense!! But i was wondering if i could get some advice! Also it has 90,000 km on the clock how can there be so many problems with this! there is also apperntly a transmisson box leak and a crankshaft leak or somthing so im pretty gutted about this!!
