  1. As others have said, DO NOT GROVE Halfshaft, 10 spline ar wek enough as they are ! Options ? Buy the tool from Simon, and / or upgrade to std 24 spline (cheap and have a large core increase so much stronger) or even better upgrade to 24 spline HD either quaiffe, MaxiDrive, Ashcroft GKN, depends on the depth of you wallet Theres no way around 10 spline std stuff breaking, groving was an old comp safari racers trick, soon stopped !..other was to braze a welding rod to the shaft both sides, and secure top end (wheel end) with self almalgam tape, then when shaft breaks pull on welding wires to remove end...it often worked ! nige

  9. Sheer quality and even the Brick kiln "Tide Mark" is fading, shame about the rust stains on SWMBOs tarmac drive from the 25 mins of 2000 watt 9 inch angle grinding "Special Event" ...every time it rains she asks why the drive has brown stains the next day..... Nige

  16. Steve, you've been in the 90, and I was (and still am) in running in mode.....and it wasn't exactly "tardy" then at limited rpm.... Can you imagine what this engine was like in a 1250 kg comp safari racer.... ? ... I met the 1st owner of said the other day, .......who explained it came 'on the market' after he "gave it a squirt" through some trees at a comp safari, .....and wrote his motor (and underpants) off as a result...... Even at 2280 kgs the power to weight aint too bad, as the chav at Woodbridge road who thought it would be "Cool" to cut up some old landy found out 1 engine and now 2 sets of underpants (not mine I add) is not a bad score Nige
  17. Trainspotter, did you give him your autograph then ? , or were you all aloof Nige
  18. Steve, there are 2 types of units vertyical shoes and horizonatal shoes, and just to help I have seen late stuff with the wrong units on, almost like LR found a pallet some years late and said Ooooh Look, lets fit these, there old but if will really irriate people years from now..... So, buy the shoes to match the fitment style of yours, not ness by chassis number !, go to a supplier than understands there are the 2 types vet vs horiz and supply the ones you need Nige
  19. Had this prob on the hybrid. Mainly it was the front tube that went from sterring box to axle, but the logic is the same. I tried a few homers 1st. One was to sdrill a couple of holes around the tube into the cavity, then I pushed (read gentle tap in or in technical speak a JWhite No 18 Hammer) a piece of rod, 16mm from memory, then welded it in place, it helped but still bent. Then I did the above and welded a lump of angle to it, same, bent again. Then I bought a new pair of bars, and Danbars (sump are about the same) due to the OD and the joint wall thickness, I gave it terrible abuse (at least .78 on the Tonk abuserufar%se Scale) and never bent it. I did manage to shear off a track rod, but fixed it in the mud, as such I still have danbars, but carry a std bar zippied to the roll cage "just in case" By them Tonk there worth the money, you also probably need a new bat roo, cos the ID of the danbar is SOOOOO close ANY bend at all in the tube going into it and forget it it won't go on - work out how I know this fact Nige
  20. Hope your pleased with the cage / workmanship, post some piccies (like your not going too ) Nige
  21. Hello Doyley, didn't know you work there, sorry, turned up 5 days a week there Considering the in / on / off / out empty kit / on back / front (and they were very very helpful too), it was £8 Worth it tho Also amazing what the spares ropes hilift snatch blocks etc etc add up too ! Yep twas me at ladymead !.... Nige
  22. Tonk, I was forever bending steering bars front and rear on the old hybrid. In the end I bought danbars front & Rear, and WOW what a difference, also grease then up then when they hit they rotate over the obstance rather than dig in. Trim to fit maybe ....Kieth Gotts sells them cheapish, ask JW he's always nipping up there ! Nige
