  1. Is the rear axle from a Range Rover classic, a straight fit on an a 1988 land rover 90 ? Thanks
  2. Hi ! only a couple of hours if you leave it parked. but if you drive it , the brakes work fine.
  3. Usually when i drive the Disco, i get in, start the engine and drive off and everything seems fine...from a couple of days ago, if you start the engine and drive off, you find yourself with a very stiff brake pedal and very difficult to brake the car. After a couple of seconds the brake pedal turns soft and brakes well. I checked for leaks, checked non return valve in the servo and seems fine, and there are no visible or audible air leaks, even when the engine is turned off, but if you leave the vehicle parked for a short while the pedal turns very stiff again. I also checked the rotor blades in the vacum pump. they measure 25mm in width. tomorrow i will go to my parts supplier and compare them with new ones but pump suction seems quiet satisfactory. i am assuming it's the servo calling for a replacement, right ? any past experience about the matter?
  4. If it might help...today i replaced the pas box on my brother's Disco. The replacement box was really much softer than the one fitted on, when operated by hand. On the road now the steering is much softer too. if you are going to work on the pas, i suggest you remove the cooling fan and the right hand side shock absorber turret. by doing so it will give you much more space where to work. you will also need some 1ltr of new oil and two new o-rings.
  5. I have the same issue with my Brothers's Disco 1 presently... I changed what could have been possibly changed except the steering box... the issue with the Disco was it wandered to the right, so i changed the radius arms with ones which had the 3 degrees correction since it has a 2" lift, new terrafirma steering damper, ball joints, swivel bearings, etc etc.. yesterday i balanced the wheels and the wandering almost disappeared, but still there is no self centering. loosened the steering box nut at the top, got a lot of freeplay in the steering wheel, but still no self centering. now before i replace the steering box, i will reset the pre load on the swivels cause when i rebuilt them, i set the preload to 6kg. The manual says something between 1.5 to 2 kg, but on the net i found various article which said swivels should be set round the 6kg mark. now i will reset them according to Hayes manual specs and if the problem persists will go for the steering box which here in Malta cost round the 650 euro and honestly my bro is a bit Mildly miffed up with the issue and with spending cash on the girl ... probably will try and dismantle the present one perhaps it got an issue with some bearing but it's still a big ?? will let you posted when i do it ...good luck with your problem...would really like to find what the preload on the steering box should be after a rebuilt, but did not manage to find any info neither on the net nor in the usual manuals..
  6. Thanks to both replies. as regards the inner wings, i managed to do without the trimming , probably because i have a 2" body lift, but still cannot establish why the intercooler / turbo pipe is getting into the way. will refit the original ones for the time being. thanks again.
  7. Trying to fit new Terraferma standard tubular turrets to my Disco 1, but the left hand side one keeps hitting against the intercooler / turbo pipe. Am i doing something wrong or had been given the wrong part? any idea? thanks
  8. update...the high/low is operated manually.. the only thing i did not try is activate the difflock. i just switch from high to low...does that make a difference?? this afternoon i removed the front prop on our other Disco 200. its a manual...but same thing...no drive...but i did not switch to low gear... so that means both landies have busted transfer boxes ??? thanks for the all the replies.
  9. Hi there.. so i got this 1989 range rover with 4 speed auto box. I removed the front prop shaft for a service and tried to drive the Range but there is no drive at all. I switched to low gear, but nothing happened. So i would like to know if it's normal or if there is something busted in the transfer case with regards to the rear drive. thanks
  10. Hi, I need to remove the engine from the Disco inorder to replace clutch, flywheel oil seal and timing belt. Is it possible to do it without disturbing the AC system , or do i have to empty the system and remove matrix inorder to be able to remove the engine? thanks
  11. Thanks mate... came across the Disco II body and was thinking of replacing with the 200 one...did not know that the chassis are different.. thanks again.
  12. Is the fitting of a Disco II body on a Disco I chassis a straight fit?
  13. cannot describe it...but sorry my fault...you have to be driving around on the streets of Malta, to be aquainted with the sort of noise.. as regards the anti roll bar links...they seem quiet good ...
  14. been driving this freelander around, and on the front one can hear sort of a noise like empty shocks...so i dismantled both shocks but seem to be in good condition. no oil leaks, and the stroke seems very similar to the new ones...so i replaced the bump stops cause they where damaged and remounted everthing in place but the noise persists i measured the springs and they where both 339mm...the manual says from 359 to 375mm unless it is the sports model cause those measure 308mm ...can it be the springs which are causing that noise? i examined all car from underneat for mountings, etc, but everthing seems fine.. would like to know are there different type of grades of springs for freelanders, just like defenders or disco's? the ones fitted where marked with a purple and white paint and the shocks where marked with green paint. any idea ?? the model is a 2005 4dr tdi...
  15. took it to an expert...he fixed it himself...thanks any way..
  16. ....i tried that way but as soon as the window goes at the top, it signals an alarm and goes back down... ...but thanks for the response anyways...
  17. ..today i disconnected the battry on a 2005 freelander diesel, inorder to work on the front suspention...when i refitted everything back, the rear window, does not want to close...i refered to hayes and owners manual, but though i found some info on the owners manual, i could not make it work.. what i did was i connected the battry, closed the vehicle with the key fob and closed the rear window with the key, but as soon as i open the car again, the window goes down automatically. I tried to close the window from the inside switch, but as soon as it touches the rubber, the window, returns back down and an alarm signal goes off near the drivers seat... i know i have to recalibrate the window but how?? i removed battry terminal again and tried procedure all over but to no avail... any similar experience please ??
  18. Diesel lift pump replaced.. engine working much better especially uphills. got an other query... I noticed that there are three rubber plugs inserted in the cylinder block, just behind the wire harness.. tried to look for their purpose in the Hayes Manual, but could not find anything about them... any idea what is there purpose cause the ones i have, got disintegrated ... are they just dust plugs??
  19. thanks for the help mate... carried some checks again today...opened the bleed screw a couple of turns as suggested and cranked a couple of times the engine but to no avail... tomorrow will collect the new pump, and try to replace it in the evening... what baffles me is how come the engine works just the same?? anyways only solution i see is i will be 38 euro lighter tomorrow!! thanks mate ...much appreciated..
  20. Hello there, so yesterday, i replaced the fuel filter on my 300tdi and when i tried to bleed the system or fill the filter by means of the primary pump, it seemed that the lever on the pump was not functioning at all. I tried to re position the cam by cranking the engine a few turns but to no avail. Then i used a vacum pump from the bleed er bolt at the top of the filter assembly and managed to fill the filter, but as soon as i removed the vacum pump, a sound like if something is draing backwards could be hear from the bleeding bolt. I started the engine and after a few seconds it seemed to work fine, but i opened a few turns the bleeding screw to check if the filter filled up, but no diesel came out of the bleeding screw. The engine seems to work fine but been querying myself if the primary pump is supplying enough diesel to the system. On hill tops, the Range sometimes seems slugish... any more options how to test the primary pump or it's a just replace option?? thanks
  21. just been trying to remove the drop arm with pas box in place on my disco 200 today... but it seems as it will be a hard task to tackle, cause i tried to remove the drop arm with a two legged puller as suggested by hayes manual but to no avail.. now i got fed up and tired drinking beer ... here in Malta presently it's like living in an oven...very high tempretures, which do not help, while you are crawling underneat the Disco... left the puller on tension, maybe overnight the drop arm will give way...but miracles don't happen anymore...do they?? tomorrow will give it an other try, cause i need to change the seals cause of the Vrt... interesting fact the hydraulic oil treatment, but in my case, the leak is a heavy one... friend of mine puchased some additive but it worked for a couple of days and the leak returned ... anyways...going to sleep...feeling my arms as if i worked out at a gym for a whole week... damn puller !!!
  22. thanks people !!! I really appreciate !!! regards
  23. I am splitting the calipers apart of a 300tdi, in order to service washers, and fit spacers kit due to vented discs installation. when i looked into the hayes Manual, there is no reference at all about how much one should tighten the four bolts that keep the two halves of the caliper toghether. I looked up into the 90/110 one but to no avail, and into the range rover one which only said DO NOT SPLIT THE CALIPERS APART...DO NOT SPLIT THE CALIPERS APART any idea how much should i tighten the four bolts?...should i use tread lock? thanks
  24. Disco Tony, did you buy the pig already like that or did you fit the flaps yourself.. does it involve messing the rear doors? what lift has it got ? 3" ? size of tyres ? Our disco either got shorter springs than the standard ones or they lost their will to work cause it sits depressingly low.. trying to upload pic but not managing ... will try later. thanks
  25. thanks guys... next week end will give a try and check again better each caliper individually...including the ones at the back. will keep you posted.
