I'm looking at purchasing a 300tdi 1996 manual disco, the owner says it needs a new transfer box because the lever is stuck in high range he also says that the odometer has ceased to function.
Could there be a link between the two problems ?
I went to see it ,Absolutely amazing bodywork and chassis, totally rust free.Unfortunately it's had the dash taken out in haphazard fashion and the registration paperwork is a bit vague, plus i would need a flatbed to transport it in it's present condition.Still it was quite surreal having to search for corrosion on a landrover !
I'm looking for a project and I've seen a 1991 D1 200tdi. It's an ex-french fire brigade incident control vehicle with only 68000kms ! Naturally I'm interested, the advert says that the heating block and the front driveshaft have been removed.Could a leaking heater box have led to fatal engine damage ?
I'm obviously ready to invest a bit but I'm looking for a project with a sound engine.
How can I tell the engine isn't a total dud without it running ? What should I look out for ?
I'm going to see it tommorrow I'm trying to remember all the things to lookout for:
chassis ,door bottoms, footwells, bulkhead, oil filler cap heavy breathing. How can I tell if the gear/transfer boxes are sound.
I used to own a 300tdi this is a 200tdi which I'm not familiar with.
I'd be doing the work myself. I think anyone who owns a Defender and pays someone else to do the work is missing the point ! I'm just after a rough and ready truck that will get through it's M o t. The seller is asking for 3000.
I'm considering coming in from the cold with the aquisition of this specimen.
The seller says it's taken a slight knock to the side.
Is this repairable without mega investment ?
sorry if this sounds dumb,I live at the bottom of 20 degree concrete slope that runs over a distance of about 25 meters,I'm at present very interested in 300tdi auto, will it struggle up the the slope on cold mornings?
Thanks .
