  1. Just a quick question, will tubeless tyres (michelin XPC 205x16) fit on my 1969 Series II rims ? As far as I can see, the rims are the original ones (5,5x16..?) no idea if they can hold tubeless tyres. ….which leads me to my second question, If my rims do need inner tubes, can I just simply put tubes in and “flop” my XPC’s on ? I'm currently running on 6.00 x 16 Avon's dating back from.......well, 1969 by the looks of them Cheers, Edwin
  2. Hello Tonk, Well both I'm afraid. I'f the chassis bushes need "force"to get them out, will I get them in without a special press ? Cheers, Edwin
  3. Hi all, Mister MOT tells me that I need to change the rear suspension bushes on my 88” How difficult is it the get the old ones out and the new ones in ? Do I need any special tools or just brute force ? Thanks in advance for your replies ! Edwin.
  4. Hi all, Two quick questions that probably have been asked a 1000 times before (sorry…) but here I go…. I have a 1969 Series IIa 88’, will 90/110/Defender rims fit ? My Series has a grey colour, I need to spray two new doortops, does anyone know the exact colour-code or description ? Thanks ! Edwin.
  5. Just a quick one; What would be the thickness of the metal used for the chassis on a 1969 Series IIa ? Need to get welding soon so…….. Cheers, Edwin.
  6. Hi Mark, Not sure about the Sortout myself, but some friends of mine might want to go. Will check that out and come back to you if they do decide to visit Newbury…. Are we allowed to talk “prices” here in public ? if not, do send me a PM or email me with the price you have in mind. Edwin.
  7. Hi Mark, Might be interested in your spare grill but I do live across "the big water" (Holland) so shipping it over here will probably make it a bit (too) expensive...... Cheers, Edwin.
  8. Thanks all for your replies ! Let's see if I can find a grill at the coming sortout.........but 40 pounds......pfff Cheers, Edwin
  9. Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply. My IIa has been "updated" with that plastic grill too, I'll better start looking for a wire grill at the next sort-out ! Cheers, Edwin.
  10. Hello, Just bought a very nice 1969 Series IIa. It looks nearly original, but still I’d like to learn more about the “specs” in 1969. Things like, when did Land Rover swap the metal grill for the plastic one, when did plastic indicator lenses replace the glass ones etc. Any idea where I can find this information ? any good internet sites or books ? Cheers, Edwin.
  11. Have a look at mudplug They do some nice organised trips in France. Edwin.
  12. Adam, Turned out to be the light switch after all.......guess I'd better take up a car-electrics-course... Thanks for thinking with me ! Edwin.
  13. Hello Adam, I checked the lightswitch, it's fine. Also tried shortcutting the swith with some wire, NO lights. Checked the bulb connectors, whatever I do, NO 12 volts there. Checked the earthing at the connectors, it's fine. Had all the relays checked, no results. Mmmm.....what to do next....
  14. Hello, Yesterday suddenly my headlights stopped working (TD5 2002) I do still have dipped beam (the small lights above the indicators) but when I switch over to main beam, all the lights go out, even the dashboard illumination. Had a quick look at the fuses, all seems fine there. Any idea’s ? maybe one of the fuses that are located under the seatbox ? Will be back reading this forum in about 1,5 hours, so any replies from me could take a while……. Thanks in advance ! Edwin.
  15. I'm not sure about the turbo lag, I'm under the impression that it pulls a bit better low in rev's....but that could also be me imagining things ! (and hoping that I didn't burn 44 pounds for nothing....) I only drove the car for a few miles this morning, will take it on a longer trip tonight, let's see how it feels !
  16. Mmmmmm...mine's a TD5, yours a Tdi, could be a difference there...perhaps. Edwin
  17. Spent the best part of the evening, replacing the middle exhaust silencer with one of those straight through-pipes I bought at the Scorpion stand in Malvern last weekend. Must say I’m a bit disappointed by the result: More BHP ?...well could be that it pulls just a bit better low in rev’s Great sound ?..what great sound ???? when I try real hard I can hear a distant dark-ish rumble, but that’s it. No burbling V8-sound, no exiting turbo whistle. (makes you wonder why Land Rover fitted that huge silencer in the first place..) Anyone fitted one of these…was I expecting too much ? Cheers, Edwin.
  18. Thanks very much Guys ! Will pass the info on. Cheers Edwin.
  19. Hi, A friend of mine is fitting power steering in his 90 2.5 NA at the moment. In order to hook up the belt-driven pump, he needs to fit a double pulley to the crankshaft, but he has a bit of trouble finding the right one. Does anyone happen to have the correct part number for this double pulley or know where he can order one (Paddocks ?) Hope my question makes a bit of sense Edwin.
  20. Thanks Simon ! Will try and grease the cable and the wheely bits...........off comes the dash again ! Cheers, Edwin.
  21. It's been mentioned in an earlier post, but I also fitted my GPS bracket straight onto the ashtray. Because my GPS (tomtomgo) is a bit heavy, it kept coming down from the window where it used to be mounted. This setup has turned out to be a very solid base.
  22. Hi all, Another wiper-problem… My wipers are very noisy (Defender 90 MY2002 ) When operated the mechanism makes loud noises, sounds as if part of the mechanism has worked loose. But when I checked last time (had to replace the wiper motor) I couldn’t see anything wrong, all nuts and bolts were nice and tight. Any idea’s before I rip the dashboard open once again ? Thanks in advance ! Edwin.
  23. Not much action..but here's mine: Oh since this picture was taken, I swapped the General Grabbers for a set of BFG AT's 265/75/16.
  24. The rear end of a Discovery 3.........mmmm I knew I'd seen it somewhere before.....
