  1. A tow ball isnt ideal for recovery, but will normally do the trick, if you can get hold of a pin type, that would be safer, get it as high as poss, or it will make a nice anchor for you. Fit a ' jate ring' or two to the front for recovery, pretty cheap on ebay, and a strong tow rope. The dynapro tyres should be fine until you get more extreme. personally my next mods would be; ~A front diff guard ~Heavy duty steering arms.... Oe arm are supprisingly easy to bend when trying to steer out of ruts!! ~c.b radio for calling for help! Otherwise just get out in it, you'll soon find out what you need, and what you dont Enjoy!
  2. Mtf 94 is also used in bmw mini gearbox's, so available through mini parts department, and cheaper than from land rover.
  3. You do have to bleed the system, thats why there is a bleed screw! I've always needed to bleed it, while my mate has never had to when breaking into system, just luck I guess. Anyway, I had the same problem, after hours of trying it finally bled, my method was; Open the bleed screw by a couple of turns, using a long length of clear ( screenwash) hose from screw, up over wing into a bucket, have someone else topping up. Jacked up front of car, work steering lock to lock while revving engine quite hard!- important!! You'll see a small amount of fluid passing through pipe, then suddenly a big air bubble, and pressurised fluid will start to flow. Hope this helps, some may say its wrong, but its worked for me a few times on a 300tdi Good luck ;-)
  4. The price on 2 doors is certainly more than 4 doors, I would check out the prices of completed listings on ebay to see what similar cars have sold for.
  5. Depending what style interior light is fitted to your defender, assuming its the same as my 95 300tdi, then its completely different to my 200tdi disco interior lights, not sure on 300tdi discoverys. But......................... it is the same as mid 1990s rover 200!!!
  6. The '89 will have had a 300tdi conversion, most likely fitted further back in the engine bay, where the old engine sat, the genuine 300tdi is mounted much further forward, compare the space in front of each engine to the rad, this should answer your questions.
  7. Excuse me if im talking rubbish but, i seem to remember that the late 300tdi 90's had the silencer that goes between the chassis rails removed, so its pretty much the same design as the td5, mite be an easy alternative and keeps it all OE
  8. Sorry to hear about your landy James, i came to your house last year to buy a Bonnet protector, I will keep an eye out for it, would instantly recognise it, Now i need to go sort my truck some decent security..... worrying when its so close to home!! Alex
  9. A really quick simple method on a 300tdi that'll confuse most theivs, pop the bonnet, on the passenger side of the engine bay near the back is a small black fusebox with 3 jumbo fuses in it, pull the middle one out and now there's no power to anything
