Thanks for that. That is just how ours is. As long as it doesn't get any worse I can cope with it. But it is a very annoying noise.

Thanks for your suggestions to the problem. Is it something that will get worse? Other than the noise the gearbox feels ok, with no notchiness or baulking.

I've only just joined this forum, so go easy on me. We have owned a Disco 300 tdi for years now & have recently bought a 2000 TD5 GS. The problem we have is a noise from the TD5's manual gearbox on first start up. It's not a belt squeal as we've checked all those. When I engage either reverse or 1st it's most noticeable. After a couple of miles it goes away.(It reminds me of a noise that the clutch release bearing made on a MK2 Escort I had years ago.) Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Gearbox or flywheel? Thanks for reading & I hope someone can help. Jane
