  1. Hi

Could somebody please help me, what would you recommend as the best oils/fluids etc to use in my 1993 Defender 90? I want to drain the oils out of the gearbox, transfer box and both axles/diffs and replace with nice brand new stuff - as I have no idea when it was last done. Details are below:

    Gearbox = standard LT77

    Transfer box = standard LT230

    Front axle/diff = standard 200TDi

Rear axle/diff = fitted from a 300TDi (so disc brakes at the back, if that makes a difference)

Also how much oil will I need, how much does each part take to fill up to the correct point? Sorry I'm asking for quite a lot of info here, so I very much appreciate everyones help.

    Thank you

    Chris

  2. Well it's £40 just for the panels Here - YRM Metal Solutions.

Then, perhaps a days worth of labour (more likey to be two, what with all the strip down needed?? Therefore at least 8 hours at £20 p/hour? I'd say you'd be lucky to spend less than £200. More likely £250 all in.

If it takes them two days (it really shouldn't though), obviously more.

All guess work however, when my footwells went I replaced the entire bulkhead, as I was rebuilding anyway (but I don't recommend that).

Thank you for your reply Adam. Yeah don't need the do any bulkhead work, its solid as a rock.

I may take it to the the garage i've taken my Landys to in the past and get a quote, they do a very good job and their prices are pretty fair i think.

  3. Does anybody know a rough price a usual Land Rover specialists garage will charge to replace the footwell behind the pedals in a 90, as its rotting away at the bottom. The base (straight part) of the footwell is fine, but the small strip of metal in between the base and pedal section has a hole and rot also.

If anyone has any idea idea it will be appreciated?

    Thanks

    Chris

  4. Hi

I've heard conflicting views on the oil to use in a Defender 200TDi. I'll go for the 15W40, but somebody said that sticky oil (like Castrol Magnatec) is no good, but somebody else recommended it.

Also what type would be best: mineral, fully synthetic or part synthetic etc?

    Thank you

    Chris

  5. Hi

    Can somebody please help.

I've just seen a Defender 90 on ebay that is an H reg and on his description it says it was registered on 1st August 1990. Does this mean it has a 200TDi or the old 2.5TD because I've searched on google and found a place saying only Defenders from September onwards had the 200TDi?

    Is this correct?

    Thank you for any help.

    Chris
