  1. Just an update. There are no signs of water in the passenger footwell. Any other suggestions?
  2. Ta Kiwi, I'll have a look in the passenger footwell then and see if there is any signs of water.
  3. Thanks again. Just noticed that since I topped up the coolant a few days ago the level doesn't appear to have dropped noticeably. Its been a few hundred miles is that normal with hgf? I would have expected it to be a consistent loss.
  4. Thanks for the reply. There doesn't appear to be any of the other issues you mention. Car is running well, just that the coolant level has dropped from max to min in thellast 2000 miles or so.
  5. Hi all I noticed that my freelander has lost quite a bit of coolant since I checked the levels a few hundred miles ago. It has not been overheating though according to the temp gauge. Is this still likely to be hgf? There doesn't appear to be any obvious leaks anywhere. What else can I check to confirm or rule out hgf? There doesn't appear to be any other running issues at present. Have topped up the coolant for the meantime and will check it every journey. Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers
  6. Thanks for that Jan. Was it relatively straight forward to do? Don't have much experience with car mechanics. Cheers
  7. Hi All, Just a quick question about some problems I am having with my front widescreen wipers. They are getting stuck when on the intermittent setting, and not returning to the bottom. They work OK when on the constant settings but when you turn them off they don't return again. If you time it right you can get them to stop in the right position Is this a common problem? Does it mean new motor and linkage and how easy is this to fix myself for a novice to car mechanics? Thanks, Jimmy
  8. The advisories just state Exhaust has minor leak of exhaust gases (rear section) - Exhaust rear section mounting bracket come away temporary repair to hold up exhaust So not sure which bracket it means. Is it the kind of thing that could be costly?
  9. Hi All So still on the look out for my new toy. Seen a 52 plate td4 with 114k on the clock, asking for just over £2000. Looks decent with full land rover service history and clutch and flywheel replaced at 70k. Only problem is that it only has a few months mot. The last mot had advisories for minor exhaust leak and exhaust mounting bracket. Is anyone able to give me some idea of costs that might be involved should they cause a fail at next test? What are people's opinions? Ta Jimmy
  10. Just an update.. Have had a look and the wiring had become detached from the switch. Will have to purchase myself I soldering iron and try and sort at somepoint.
  11. Thanks FF. I have read the manual and as far as I understand it am doing things correctly. But still no light coming on (apart from when I turn the ignition on). Maybe the switch isn't working??? On another note...I took the car to a land rover specialist this morning to ask what they thought about the VCU. He took it for a drive and say he wouldn't be concerned about it, the tightness I was feeling was normal for a freelander. Just have to keep and eye on it. Potentially that's one bill saved.
  12. Well I've got it booked in with Bell tomorrow evening to get it replaced by them. Saves me a job and doesn't cost a fortune to have them fix it. Worth it for the piece of mind a reckon. Still not 100% convinced its actually passed it but worth doing anyway at the cars done over 70k. Thanks for the advice guys. Now onto the the next thing on the list of bits that need looked into......
  13. So finally have a Freelander ! And a list of things that might need putting right...... First on the the to do list in VCU and propshaft bearings, am booked in at Bell Engineering to get them fitted tomorrow night. My next concern is a very slight dragging/scuffing noise coming from what sounds like under the passenger side front corner (not exactly sure where). Am kind of hoping it might be the prop shaft bearings and should find out tomorrow, failing that possibly wheel bearing or brakes sticking??? Any other ideas??? Also I tested the HDC this morning on a not very steep hill. It felt like it was working but the light was not lit on the dash. It lights up when I turn the ignition but not when I engage the HDC. Probably going to just leave it as it but just wondered if anyone had any ideas? My final item on the list is reversing. I can engage reverse ok but there doesn't seem to be much drive in it. Its fine for short distances at very low speed but I had to reverse down my lane earlier and it just keep feeling like I had no power and engine was whining, just didn't seem to have much drive. Hard to describe really but that's the best I can do. Is this normal for Freelander? Despite this am loving having the Freelander it all adds to the fun! Cheers guys, Jimmy
  14. Ta Egg n Chips. Actually didnt end up with that one in the end. Went to collect it and it was a heap. Gear wouldn't engage and tracking screwed not to mention the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. However have since picked up a little 1.8 for a fair price, looks like its had most essential work done too. Just need to sort the VCU and that is starting to fail. Really happy with it though.
