  1. I've bought a 2" receiver hitch for the back of my 90. Plan was to fit it with a Nato hitch through the hitch and through the cross member. This would then satisfy the need for a recovery point and to be able to tow a Sankey. Problem is the design of the hitch means the Nato hitch can't be fitted with the receiver hitch So change of plan, the Nato hitch I'll have to think about but what are the best options for a recovery point? I've seen receiver tubes with either a hole for a shackle and also a receiver tube with a double crossed welded hoops. Another option might be the recovery points that look like they have a nato bolt pattern with a big closed loop that also bolts through the cross member but I've no idea if these fit with a receiver hitch in place. Anybody got any thoughts or first hand experience of any of these options or what else is available. Cheers Chris
  2. I'm just putting a 90 together on a Richards chassis, so far so good, everything has fitted. A friend has done 2 90's now, both on Richards chassis and both went together without problems
  3. These came in separate bags with hand written part numbers. The 2 'different' ones ftc3454 or UYG500040 were ordered as Land Rover parts, the others were only available from Bearmach so anyone's guess.
  4. Thought I would update this thread, I ordered 2 of one and 12 of the other and as others have said, they all look identical. Cheers Chris
  5. Great night shots Dave, very atmospheric. Well spotted Ben, I had to look hard to see it was mine in that night shot, so yes I did go in the end, had a great time.
  6. Thanks Lewis, I think I get it, bit of a vapour idea ATM so will no doubt come back with more specific questions when it gets off the ground.
  7. I was thinking of using something like this as part of an onboard air system. Have you got details of how you have set yours up Lewis? Cheers Chris
  8. Not sure what you mean Ross, the earlier axles/swivels do use a dowel bolt according to the parts book. Its not obvious which hole you put them in though, will have a closer look later. Chris
  9. OK, thanks for the reply's, will have a closer look armed with a digital caliper. Also LRdirect list uyg500040 so thanks for that link also. Cheers Chris
  10. Hi, I'm replacing the swivel bolts as part of my front axle refurb. The parts book state 1 of ftc3454 (Dowel bolt) and 6 of ftc3456 (bolt swivel housing). Looking at the ones that came out I can't see any obvious difference. I would just order what it suggests but I like to get my bits from LRdirect at the moment because they offer a choice of makes and they don't list ftc3454. Anyone know what the dowel bolt ftc3454 is/does Cheers Chris
  11. Think of it as £50 per day so only £10 more than Kirton. Its somewhere I had wanted to go to for ages, been twice now and love it. 1700 acres to play in, that's only 3p per acre per day
  12. Its just started raining here in sunny Wales, it'll be nice again later though. Doesn't rain here much
  13. Hmmm, just checked my profile, member since 10 August 2005 , suppose I could run to a fleece, can't have too many fleeces. Chris (big on lurking, short on posting)
  14. I'm planning on painting my new galvanised chassis, it has been stood in the shed for about 2 years now and although the new shiny galvanised finish has faded I think I still need to T wash it - comments please. Assuming I do t wash it can I just use some red oxide primer or does it still need to be etch primed? question for others who have used mordant solution, roughly how much is needed to do a 90 chassis. Cheers Chris
  15. Great day, first time to Newbury for me. Got a 300tdi clutch pedal Wrap around diff guard Pair of radius arms. Picked up a few bits off forum members, thanks Mike for the door catches and Ross for the fairlead and solenoids, good to meet you. Then 170 miles home, Chinese, glass of red and crash What more do you want from a Sunday
  16. I just use a set of heavy duty hanging scales (think the ones I have go up to 200kg), for very heavy stuff I hang them off my engine crane and then use that to pick up said heavy item. I think they are fairly accurate but you could weigh a known weight (eg bag of cement) to be sure.
  17. Hi, sounds as though they are fine for my late 200tdi axle so yes please, one set for me. Sending a pm now. Cheers Chris
  18. Dependant on the timing I would also be interested in a set from a second batch. Don't know how I managed to miss this thread, I lurk on here almost every day but this one slipped passed me. Cheers Chris
  19. Ok, have just had a closer look armed with a tape measure and looks like Mo is correct in that the later 200tdi's got the wide radius arms as well as 24 spline axles. So all is good, I can get my new chassis up to the rolling stage and start to swap bits over. Cheers Chris
  20. Thanks for the reply Ralph, it is missing the radius arms so I'll have to think about what to do but at least I know where I stand. Cheers Chris
  21. Hi, I've started to strip, (ready for a refurb) a spare front axle I had. I'm about to start a rebuild and decided to refurb a spare front and rear axle so that I could get to a rolling chassis stage. Anyhow when I've taken the hub off the spare axle the nut holding the bearing in is not the type I am used to (nut, folding tab washer and nut) but just a single nut. Having done a search on here I think it may be a TD5 axle? I'm rebuilding a late 200tdi defender with rear discs as standard and 24 spline axles, I think the same as 300tdi. My search on here also suggested that I could use the 200/300tdi (nut, washer, nut) arrangement on the TD5 axle. So questions are 1) Does this sound like a TD5 axle 2) Am I correct in thinking I can use the nut washer nut setup off my original axle 3) Am I ok using a TD5 axle for my rebuild or am I going to run into other problems Thanks Chris
  22. Hi, they are not brown or in your preferred location but blue and in west Wales. PM me though if of any interest. Cheers Chris
  23. Hi Ross, I have an axle sat on the floor in the shed waiting for a refurb so I could easily take some pics and some measurements for you. Cheers Chris
  24. Had a fantastic weekend in spite of a slight disagreement between a rock and my transfer box. By the time I had finished having a little panic the Belgian contingent had a tarpaulin out and were under the car with a socket set. The fix held up very well, no problems on the way home and not the slightest signs of leaking, still looking good this morning although I think I will be ordering a gasket any minute now and digging out a spare plate. Great to meet everyone Chris
