  1. elbekko, I (possibly we) will be in one vehicle too, a fairly standard 90 and will not be able to be going too extreme so happy to tag along with other similarly (un?)adventurous folk. Thanks Fridge, didn't want to be assuming I would be pubbing only to find out that everyone else stays on site and I would have to wonder off alone, a friendless lonely soul Cheers Chris
  2. I've just booked, looking forward to it. What are folks doing evening meal wise? Do you all go to the pub or bring food to BBQ/cook at the camp site. Cheers Chris
  3. I too save boxes and packaging from things I buy, got so much now that I have had to start throwing it away. Depending on what I am posting, bubble wrap held in place with parcel tape, then boxed and any spare space taken up with paper or the mega bubble stuff to stop it rattling about. For larger or more awkward shapes, again start with bubble wrap and then cover with silage wrap (similar idea to pallet wrap mentioned above). I use parcels2go or interparcel, book online, stuff gets picked up usually next day and is on its way.
  4. Hmm, that's a shame, big re-think for future project then. Thanks for the reply Chris
  5. Hi I need to replace the steering box on my 90 and although I have a replacement here ready to fit it has got me thinking about the P38 box again. My question is, are the bolt spacing's (where it bolts through the chassis) the same or is it necessary to alter the chassis. Cheers Chris
  6. Thanks Mike, good to get some first hand experience. Cheers Chris
  7. Hi Mike, slightly off on a tangent, I'm thinking about a hydraulic press and wondered what size of press you are using (or what would be the minimum size) to bend 6mm bar like that. Cheers Chris
  8. Thanks for the reply's, all sorted now. Ash.witty that was a great blind diagnosis, absolutely spot on, the earth strap wasn't bolted onto the gearbox mount. In my defence it has been well over a year since I removed the rear tub. Cheers Chris
  9. Ok, a bit of background. I have a defender sat in my shed awaiting a rebuild ( 3 years now) all I have done is remove the rear tub. I needed to move it today so put on a heavy duty battery fully charged thinking 'no reason why it shouldn't still start and drive' I get ignition lights on the dash but nothing else, at all. I do have 12v at the starter (thick cable from battery) but nothing at the white/red trace wire to the solenoid. No lights, no indicators, wipers not even the horn. The battery -ve is still grounded on the gearbox. I can't think what I have done or disturbed. Anyone able to put me out of my misery? Cheers Chris
  10. Ah, viscous not vacuum . . well they both start with V OK so I think we've bottomed out what I have, now need to decide what I could use to go manual. So far LT95 sounds doable but now a little old as Team Idris said. Any other suggestions Cheers Chris
  11. Its a 3.5 V8. So I would need a new flywheel as well? I think so but quite prepared to be wrong TB does say BW on it. Hi/low lever is just hi/low no difflock option. I'm quite new to V8's in general and very new to auto boxes so haven't a clue really. Could anyone give me a brief overview of the auto boxes found in older RRC's This is all in an old skool RR hybrid trialler so a V8 manual box from a 90/110 would actually help a little as it might bring the gearstick forward a bit so I suppose it opens up my options a little.
  12. So given my rather vague description do I have a ZF HP22?
  13. I had Academy insurance saved in my favorites with a note to speak only to Scott. Scott doesn't work here anymore was the reply. Still worth a call though.
  14. Hi, I'm wanting to replace a range rover autobox with a manual box (mated to a V8). Not quite sure what autobox I have though, its a 4 speed with borg warner TB and vacuum operated diff lock. So questions are 1)what autobox do I have 2) will any of the manual boxes available be a straight swap( i.e fit on the same GB mounts and have the same length propshafts. Failing that which one might be the easier swap. V8 manual boxes that I am aware of are . . LT95, LT85, LT77 and R380 Cheers for any info Chris
  15. Hi, thanks for that, I've actually managed to answer my own question by simply going into the shed and actually looking at my sockets Most of them are 12 point sockets. That's todays dumb question out of the way. Cheers Chris
  16. Hi, I need to replace the disc brakes on my 90. The bolts that hold the disc to the hub need a special socket - what are they called and what size? I guess at a push a hex socket could be pushed on but the chances of rounding the bolts off are putting me off that method. Cheers Chris
  17. Nu Tool . . . seen a few of these on the Bay. Good old fashioned or cheap Chinese. Cheers Chris
  18. Thanks for the reply's so far. What are 'back gears' Watching a few on ebay at the moment, trying to get a feel for what is available and at what prices. Cheers Chris
  19. I'm looking to buy a small bench mounted pillar drill, I have a budget of around £100 - £150. I was going to buy new (Clarke,SIP, draper, Sealy or whatever) but having done a search on here the general feeling is that a 'good old one' would be a better bet. So what names should I be looking for? I've heard of Meddings but there must be lots of others. Needs to be single phase. Cheers Chris
  20. I can certainly say that I have had to replace a few tyres on the 2 trailers that I have had, which had picked up punctures (before I owned them) and had them poorly repaired so I replaced to be on the safe side.
  21. Yes after abit more research I was coming to the conclusion that 30amp fuse and 2.5mm wire is the way to go. Cheers Chris
  22. Anybody got a rough ball park figure of the power of an electric cooling fan? It's off an Astra car if thats any help. I just want to work out what size fuse and how heavy the wiring should be. Cheers Chris
  23. I had the same problem on my 200tdi 90, try taking the stop solenoid off, remove the small plunger and stretching the small spring a little. This helped on mine where the fault seemed to be intermittent. Stretching the spring helped to push the plunger. Trick for removing solenoid. Cut a 24mm spanner in half, this makes it possible swing it. Then trim a little off the business end so that it is free to turn. I now keep such a spanner in my toolbox and its a 2 minute job rather than half a day!
