  1. Wow, thanks for all the reply's. I'm guessing that he just wants to check that it isn't stollen, I've had it for a few years now so if he was looking for 'his stollen one' he's been looking for a good while now. I bought it from a small local trailer dealer and I suppose I should have done the same check but it didn't occure to me. Ifor williams do have a database of stollen trailers but as the auction end tomorrow then he's not going to be able to check with them before the auction ends. Worst case mentioned above though is what I'm afraid of, I've never registered it as mine, until the last hour I wasn't aware that you could/should so if he was then to register it as his own etc etc I have several trailers flatbeds stock trailers etc, all bought second hand but I have purchase reciepts for all of them, Monday I recon a phone call to Ifor Williams and get them registered. Thanks for the feedback Chris
  2. Hi, sorry this is a bit OT. I have a flatbed Ifor Williams for sale on ebay and have been contacted by someone wanting the serial number so that he can 'do some checks' and I'm not sure if I should pass this info on. But it might look like I've got something to hide if I don't. Trailer is genuine and there is nothing to hide. Is there any danger in giving out the serial number? What would you do? Cheers Chris
  3. Thanks for that link very usefull. Has anyone found a downloadable manual for the MK3 widetrack? Cheers Chris
  4. Thanks western. Didn't think to look in the parts book Cheers Chris
  5. Hi, do the HCPU chassis's differ from a normal 110 chassis, if so how? or is it just the body work that is different. Cheers Chris
  6. Hi, any build pics of this? Sounds just like the idea I have been toying with. Had a quick look at the members vehicles section but couldn't find anything Cheers Chris
  7. Hi, nice work so far, watching this one with interest. What are the dimensions of the box you have constructed? How nose heavy does the extension to the front make the trailer, in standard form with the tub on I was amazed how well balenced they are, very little nose weight at all. Keep the updates coming. Cheers Chris
  8. Spot on ejparrott, good job I was only 99% sure Battery had been on charge all night, charger said fully charged, 12.5 V ish across terminals all suggest battery is good but it seems not. Put another battery on and it fired with half a turn of the key. I've wasted hours on trying to sort this Thanks for both replies Chris
  9. Hi, I've got a starter motor problem that I am 99% sure is down to a poor earth, solenoid clicks but motor does not turn. I've found the earth strap onto the chassis near the gearbox mount, removed cleaned etc and has improved the starter but its still not right. Question is where else to look for earthing points to clean up. Cheers Chris
  10. Hi, thanks for the reply, know what I've got now. Cheers Chris
  11. Hi, I bought a set of series 1 doors at a clearance sale the other day. The doors have galvanised frames. Do all series 1 doors have galvanised frames or do I have something unusual here. Secondly they have lift up handles does this mean they are 86/88" and not 80" Cheers Chris
  12. Great, easier then I thought. Thanks for the reply. Chris
  13. I need to put a couple of new axles on my 200tdi defender. Whilst I know almost anything can be made to fit I need it to be simples. I know 200tdi disco's will fit with not much problem but what about 300tdi disco - whats involved with these? Cheers Chris
  14. Ho-hum, another one bites the dust, thought I was onto something then. Thanks for the reply. Chris
  15. Ever since I've had my 90 (200tdi) I've never been sure that the performance is what it should be but never having driven another 200tdi can't be sure. Anyhow question is, should you be able to see the waste gate rod move when revving the engine? I have a boost guage and can see the boost increasing but the waste gate rod does not move. Cheers Chris
  16. Hi Jason, no I've no use for them thanks, the guy I've just bought my Sankey from had loads of them in the many sankeys he had for sale - he didn't know what they were either. Chris
  17. Hi Jason, firstly fantastic write up and inspirational build. On page 10 reply 183 you posted a pic of the spare trailer you bought. In the trailer are a couple of 'things' about 6 - 8 inches long each one has a but of round tube at each end with a rectangular section between them. Any idea what these are? Cheers Chris
  18. Hmmm, thanks for the advice guys, looks like lady luck has been sat on my shoulder again. Just driven 250+ miles home with it it the fixed position (wipes brow). I do have the correct pins and they will soon be in the correct position . Cheers Chris
  19. I've just aquired a MK3 sankey trailer (wide track disc brakes) so have been reading some old threads on sankeys. One post I read suggested that the MK3 trailers should be towed with the NATO hitch unlocked and able to rotate could anyone confirm for me that this is the case. Cheers Chris
  20. You can engage the overdrive in any gear. That will tell you if it actually works but if you can only get into second then overdrive first is about the best you can hope for. Overdrives whine, some more than others so you will not be able to tell how bad it is at such a low speed. Cheers Chris
  21. Well the timing was spot on. The tappets were IMHO about a 1/4 of a turn too wide, can't imagine that would make that much difference but who knows.
  22. Thanks Les, will give it a go, something is not right with it, poor fuel consumption for a while now and more recently getting quite smokey, grey smoke under load. Just checking tappets now will chech timing after that. Cheers Chris
  23. Hi, could anyone give me an idea how the check (and adjust if necessary) the FIP timing through the small inspection hole on the timing belt cover. Thanks Chris
  24. Hi Mo, thanks for the offer, I won one on ebay last night so assuming all goes well I'm sorted. Cheers Chris
  25. Hi, thanks for the replys. All the ones on ebay are in my watch list Initially I thought the combined 50mm ball and 76mm nato thingy looked quite a good idea so thanks for the warning on that one. I'm hoping to attach the NATO hitch to a spare slider and use it on my current adjustable hitch. Anyone got one they want to sell? Cheers Chris
