  1. there was a recall on some freelanders as the back on the drivers seat came loose. im not sure if yours is in that group but if you try vosa.gov.uk it should have more details.
  2. hi, havent been on in a long while. my freelander is gone to a mechanic for a new clutch but we have a slight problem. its a 2001 1.8 petrol, the mech went to fit the new clutch but found it wouldnt fit the flywheel. on one clutch theres 177mm and on the other is 183mm between the bolts (i think the bigger one is my own) the engine was changed before i bought it for a rover 1.8 k series, but not sure which one. the clutch was also changed after that as something went on fire in that neck of the woods. the mech brought my old clutch to a rover specialist but he hasnt anything on file that matches it. someone help pleeeeaaassssee,
  3. hey all, ive recently changed the head gasket on my 01 freelander 1.8 petrol. 2 weeks on and still perfect , except in the last couple of days ive started to hear a loud clicking noise from the underside of the engine . could it be from the timing being slightly off? i have a list of stuff that needs to be replaced, including the gearbox and previously removed rear drive. could it be either of these? cheers for any help
  4. disconnect your battery aswell, just to be on the safe side. most radios wont work with the steering controls unless its an upgrade. such as taking out the cassette player and putting in the l.r. cd player. the cruise control power switch is situated by the heater controls in one of the dead switches. if you pull out the covers, you might be lucky enough to have the wiring there. i have a 01 petrol gs but couldnt find any wiring for the cruise control
  5. it worked anyway cos i wont be going back to em. i couldnt even go to another one cos the next nearest dealer is bout 70 miles away. any ideas what else could have caused it to go fridgefreezer
  6. oh btw, the 65 euro i spent was a hell of a lot better than 5000+ a friend brought her to his mech who did some sort of check to find out there is NO damage to the engine itself
  7. bit of a school essay, but here goes i drove my 01 freelander to the lr dealer with the aul mayonnaise prob. after asking the guy on the desk about repairing it, he said i might need a new engine. the mech came out to me after talking with the desk guy, took off the oil cap (after going to the wrong side for the bonnet release) looked at the cap and said 'its a new engine, this ones dead' he never switched it on or checked anything else. went inside to the service manager and without any words being exchanged, he said 5000+ euro for a new engine. is this normal procedure for l.r.? now a month later with the intake manifold gasket changed, oil and coolant changed and flushed, k-seal added. the leak is gone. now, the oil pump is working, so is the water pump. what else could have caused the hg to go and why was it still driving perfect if the engine was 'dead'
  8. keep pressing the lock/unlock buttons a few times while standing close to the drivers door and front wing. when the battery is changed, it needs to reset itself to the system
  9. also, the wheels could be too wide and are rubbing against the tyre well panels
  10. you might need to take the seat apart to hook the wire back onto its catch, this could be stopping the safety release on the base of the seat to lock in. im not 100% on the full mechs of it, but i reckon the cable to release the back is also connected to the release catch on the underside and as its disconnected, the catch isnt locking in to allow the back rest to set straight up
  11. cheers everyone. its not a job id try without someone who has an idea of what theyre doing. ive done some work on other cars but the freelander is a whole diff kettle of fish. thanks again for your input guys
  12. 1- i find theres better response and braking from discs, even on the rear 2- i havent got a clue, hadnt thought that far ahead. 3- the last owner had the whole prop shaft and vcu removed when it seized while he was driving (so im told) it was something that crossed my mind when i had a mech checking the rwd and preferred the discs on other cars ive driven
  13. hey all, does anyone know if theres much work/cost to changing the rear brakes from drums to discs on a 01 freelander without rwd.
  14. hows things, is there any lr shows or anything coming up in ireland?
