  1. the show, has deliberately been kept cheap, i know that from the organiser and planning stages, its intentional. should be a great show, and in landrover terms a cheapish weekend i'm there marshalling
  2. always isolate/fuse the +ve side, other wise a simple earth cable can bypass your isolator, landrovers are positive switching too,
  3. mike try smudge he can measure the ambivan body for you
  4. salb is fairly local to me (arborfield) and i would probably have come along, but i was invited to another event just down the road, on the forrestry commision land "head down" common i believe it is called it was run by wessex hill runners and there were plenty of people there, any way i guess the point is there were 2 events within 10 miles or so of each other so the turnout is probably split that way, organisers need to check if there are other events on the same time or not, no critisism just a suggestion
  5. whoops sorry missed that bit, cheers
  6. is this open to non members? pay on the day?
  7. i am running slightly higher, about 38 all round, but i do tend to run fully loaded alot, i have a big family
  8. looks like your relay aint working to me, by jumping with the cable you removed the relay did you check the relay as i suggested? reckon your alt is fine, but your numax is not being charged, your jump experiment proved this earths are always possible duff battery, a maybe after you charged it overnight didit start fine? and did all the functions work? not trying to step on jasons toes here he seems to know split charging systems well
  9. to check your relay you dont need to disconnect anything, using a multi meter set to volts, black wire to a good earth, check both sides of the relay(the heavy duty connectors) it should read the same both sides if the relay is working ie the contacts are closed, if you dont get this and the relay has not engaged it may be at fault but you need to check the supply to the relay on the small terminals, you should have battery/alternator voltage on one of the terminals the relay is bascially a remote switch, 12v switches it on which allows the heavy duty contacts to close. i dont get why you have just the starter on one battery and everything else on the other? or am i being nieve on dual battery set ups, i thought the idea was to run a main battery as normal, ie for the car and functions, then run your second for the auxilliary functions, compressors, fridges, work lights, winches etc that way you dont drain your main vehicle battery when using all your extras and should your main battery run flat for some reason, you can jump start yourself from the second battery. reading yoiur symptoms it does seem the numax isnt charging, when self jumping do all the missing functions work ie lights, speedo etc, remeber self jumping works both ways and your red top is probably boosting the numax, i would have a look at how you have everything wired up seems your red top is wasted on just starting to me i have a wee bit experience with electrics/electronics, actually im an electronics technician and have been fixing tanks for 14 years, electgrics is my bread and butter. not boasting just background info
  10. no service history but owned from new??
  11. its not been handled very well at all fact! LRA was and is another landrover forum, there are plenty out there to choose from some of the posts are good, some are utter drivel, sorry some of them are mine anyway, loads of people are miffed and have left loads have lost pics, threads, contacts etc and thats not good i find, LRA is friendly (to me) and is good for talking poo socially etc, if i want technical i come here or def2, horses for courses, if you are unhappy with the change, dont go back there, simples cut your losses lots of people have
  12. during a discussion at a bbq yesterday, a woman there was shocked to find she didnt have a licence to tow anything! but i can drive a car!, ignorance is no excuse, her licence was new enough she can only drive a car or a milk float! unbelieveable, caravans have their uses but people dont quite understand about loading nose weights stabilizers etc etc, you should have to attend a course to tow a caravan or anything else for that matter, most i have a sankey, most people dont realise you have to lock the pin when reversing to prevent you putting the brakes on, it is an annoyance however if you dont do it your brakes fail and then at 50mph on the dual carriage way you realise why you might want brakes. i've been driving trucks and stuff with all manner of trailers for 14 years now, right up to towing 70 tonnes of Challenger main battle tanks down main road whilst your own tank weighs 60 tonnes! the principle is the same for everything just the size changes. which validates my point, i had to learn to tow tanks, and trucks and trailers, so why dont people have to learn to tow a caravan? the driving trucks also included loading strapping down etc. most of it is common sense however that seem in quite short supply sometimes
  13. i am in the REME, and have been to both the Aborfield museum and the vehicle sheds in BORDON, the Bordon one is just a big hangar with loads of old kit in, there are some real gems and defo worth a look if you get a chance
