  1. Don't really mind. I've access to a tow car and can hire a trailer. Landy is totally undrivable. Think the main work is around chassis but need an engine swap as well.
  2. Hi, I've not really been on here for ages... my Landy has been languishing on the driveway for many years, I just don't have the time or facilities to do a lot of the work required. I'm looking for a garage/mechanic in Cheshire with good Landrover experience and fairly trustworthy. Can anyone help? Cheers, Dave.
  3. Sorry mate, I don't mean this as a personal attack, but you raise a point that irks me. People in this country need to understand that we ALREADY have a tax-as-you-drive system... it's called Fuel Duty and it's calculated on every litre you buy!!! If you drive more, you pay more tax... if you have a 'gas-guzzler' you pay more tax!!! (And likely get xmas cards off G.Brown and Family!) Everywhere I read about fuel economy, taxation and 'green-ness' people suggest a system where you pay more if you use more fuel... IT'S ALREADY HERE!!! And more importantly, the tax is calculated as a percentage (unlike the USA where I believe tax on road fuel is fixed at something like 24 cents per gallon!!!) on top of the cost of fuel AND once they've added their 'duty' to the cost of fuel... they smack us with VAT on the bloomin' lot! So we pay tax... on the tax we're paying!!!!! All of this is why G. Brown Esq. isn't exactly in a hurry to do anything about high fuel prices!!! He's currently hit the jackpot on the one-armed-road-fuel-duty Bandit and is scooping our hard-earned into his hat, pockets and any recepticle he can find to to dig himself out of the huge debt-whole he's spent the last ten years digging into!! p.s. Yes, I would have added more exclamation marks if I could have. p.p.s. I already carbon off-set the CO2 created by my 'gas-guzzler' ... do I get a road-fund-duty discount???

Or people who live in climates like wot Britain has Hmm, British steel isn't the problem, it's the British weather
  5. Well, colour me ever so slightly green with envy... that looks like an awesome trip. Though Blighty is blessed with an over abundance of Landrovers of all shapes and sizes... most of them (including mine) don't get to see scenery of that caliber!
  6. "Land Rover announce the amazing new styling accessory pack for Range Rover Classic and Discovery owners."
  7. The biggest problem with that unit is that it'll require a special pen to use on the screen, it won't recognise finger taps. It has what is know as an 'active' digitiser, you need to look for a unit labelled as 'passive' digitiser or just 'touch'. The previously mentioned Fujitsu Siemens LT P-600 are a favourite in the states with pilots but there are two different types of screens on them, one is better outdoors than the other, check with any sellers before buying.
  8. In case anyone wants to watch this and can't (no repeats/outside the UK etc) try here. Also, respect to the (heavily) modified Hi-Lux... I second the opinion that it's such a damn shame the standard vehicle looks nothing remotely like it. And Clarkson... gawd bless him, if he didn't exist ... you'd have to make him. He's such a tosser but facinating to watch! I spent half the show laughing my head off and half crouching behind the sofa while he did his utter best to totally destroy the Toyota!!! For a man who claims to love cars, he has no thought of mechanical sympathy at all.
  9. To copy your Internet Explorer bookmarks you just need to find the directory they are stored in... Been a while since I've used Win 2000 but try c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Favourites If that doesn't exist, try c:\Windows\Profiles\<username>\Favourites... Or, just launch explorer, navigate to the C: drive, press F3 to search and tell it to search for "*.lnk" ... that should give you a list of all favourites on your machine. Or, there is this method.
  10. Goes up to £300 per year immediately, from April next year it'll be £400.
  11. Jesus, I simply cannot believe the level of venonmous hatred spilled in the comments... do these people really believe we bought our 4x4's with the intent of killing children? Who are all these people anyway... are they actually on our streets? If so, I fear more for society than for any child playing in a city street. I actually read on one American 'Green' website a comment from someone claiming that a 4x4 is a driven weapon and rather than waiting for me to kill him in an accident he would "f**king knife (me) first" ... For the love of god, do these people not realise how completely insane they sound?
  12. Sent the following off on the Radio 1 Newsbeat page, be gobsmacked if I hear or read it on their site: Just realise how much I sound like my dad
  13. As someone has already pointed out, the legislation is actually pointed at cars that pollute more/use more fuel. I think that is ok, after all, I spend f*ck all time in London so it could burn to the ground for all I care. What really, and I mean REALLY p*sses me off is how the BBC, YET AGAIN, single out 4x4's. As if the entire world would choke and die if we don't do anything about these awful cancer-causing, child molesting, bunny-rabbit slaughtering 4 wheel drives!!!! I've fessed up before, I drive a Jeep... I like my Jeep... it returns, on average, 30mpg on my weekly journeys... that's about 3-4mpg less than my 2001 Mini Cooper did and about 6-7mpg MORE than my pals Nissan 350Z!!! The TDi/5 Disco and Defender owners on here reckon their trucks get about the same 28-30mpg... Where's the guzzling??? Additionally, I drive a hell of a lot slower and take a lot more care with my 4x4 than I did in my Mini, I've knocked about 25mph off my crusing speed ... I realise I'm hurtling along in 2 tonnes of steel and I drive appropriately, not like some drivers you see sitting 3 inches off the bumper in front!! You want to tax less fuel efficient cars (and I'm not even going to get into the argument about how we pay more tax on fuel anyway) then that's one thing... but when the news organisation that I pay the license fee for start victimising one particular type of vehicle!!!!!!!! GaaaaaaaHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Funny light switches, the general lack of dashboard and barely comfortable seats are part of the Series Landrovers charm... at least that's what I'm told... Power steering is nice, especially if you've been spoilt for years and you try to do a u-turn with 7.50's fitted. As for reversing lights, easiest is just to fit a white lamp at the back with a manual switch, otherwise you'd need a switch fitted to the gearbox.
