  1. hi guys i've got a disco in the shed with a broken engine. not repairable. i've got a td5 engine as well with box was wondering whats involve in putting the td5 into the disco. any chassis mount modification. i don't know if it has been done before. any help will be wellcome. thanks
  2. hi instead of jumping on it try to pull it up on the other side. so 'll try to make sense. i've deal with these kind of nuts a lot and learn the hard way. so put the breaker bar on a piece of pipe to get more leverage and instead of pushing the bar down to loosen the nut pull the bar up. you'll have to be next to the passenger door and facing forward if you know what i mean! do it when the car is on ground with tyres still on. and diff on low range(lock) that should work for you. thierry
  3. no ARB front and rear on mine.fly through the test. but i do have heavy duty spring at the back. i know loads of people who had remove them for good and no issue. thats my opinion as well someone els might think differently
  4. hi the lights never comes on. whats a PO? i have the instruction of doing the dianogsis but if the light is not on it could mean that the ecu won't find any issues!!! and if it find the fault how to clear the fault after fixing the problem? thanks a mil
  5. hi thank you so much for the advice. i've order the wheel and tyres today so im going to fix them in about 2 weeks and i'm going to try and take some pictures while doing the cutting i'll keep you update. thanks
  6. hi just got another landy it's a 110 300tdi. had it for like 3 weeks and the last 2 weeks the abs will start kicking at very slow speed specially when turning. i lost all the brakes yesterday had to pull the hand brake to stop. but it seems that the abs was kicking but it make such a grinding noise as if wheel bearing is gone. i've done the pads 2 weeks ago notice no play in wheel bearing. the things is that i don't know if the abs light is suppose to come on when atarting the vehicle and then turn off when reaching about 5mph! the landy never did that. any clues guys. any help more that wellcome. thierry
  7. hi i've been reading this thread with loads of interest. i'm looking at set of the KL71 MUD 33/12.50r15 on 8x15 modular. i'm running a disco 1 1998 300tdi. have a 2" lift on it. will these tyres fit on mine or will i need to do some modification? i'm braking a v8 disco 2 as well and can get some parts which might be useful to me ( like prop's, arms etc) any advice? i've run general grabber AT2 before can't complaint they did a good job on the road so looking for something which will handle well off roading thanks thierry
  8. no worries Kev hope it all goes well do you have a wading plug on it? if yes remove it if there's oil in the bell housing it will drain out clean all the oil with a degreaser and don't put the wading plug back in for now. give a clean before you go on monday again and fit the wading plug again this way it will look as if ther's no oil leak but after the test you have to remove it coze the oil will need somewhere to drain or else it will get all over the clutch good luck
  9. no worries mate, i've learned the hard way myself but i'm glad now. after a year i'm in the process of building a defender from scratch to go travelling. (will take a couple of years though) engine oil will be black and clutch oil is the same a brake oil clear yellowish but it could be black as well. is your clutch pedal hard or weird feeling when pressing on it? check fluid level for clutch. you could smell the dripping oil and compare the smell from the engine oil on the dip stick. i'll say if its engine oil it could have contaminated the clutch thus worth doing the whole lot if it turns out to be the crank oil seal. thierry
  10. could be a mot failure (pretty sure) changing the seal involve of splitting the gearbox from the engine clutch out, flywheel out and seal behind. i've done mind when doing the clutch. check if it's engine oil or could be clutch oil which would mean the slave cylinder could be gone which would be easier fix. hope that help any question don't hesitate to ask. there's good thread on crank seal in the tech archive have a look. if you are doing the seal get a clutch kit and slave cylinder as well at the same time worth doing them when you have the box and engine split.
  11. seems to me it's a crank oil seal which need replacement. i had to holes like that when i did my conversion. there should be pre tap holes where you could tap and thread them to allow the fitting of new bolts. i could be wrong but thats what i think it is.
  12. thanks i'll check it. its scary driving and you don't know if the brakes will work. i've heard removing the abs fuse ubder the bonnet will make the abs stop working but brake will still work normally.i might do that temporarily but i want to get at the bottom of it
  13. thanks for the reply. just came back from training and as i was getting out of the gate on a slope i just lost my brake the and the landy would not stop until i pull the hand brake. but the thing is that the abs was kicking but it would'nt stop... pretty scary and ideas
  14. hi i'm having some trouble with the abs system. it's a disco 1 300tdi. so sometimes when i'm driving the abs light comes on but its kind of a very fade lights and turn off after a few seconds. also sometimes the abs over-react specially if im turning at very low speed (like getting in the drive way) i read some articles that if the abs is not working properly it could disable the whole braking system! and also there's a code reading method thingy that we can do to know which one is the faulty ones. anyone know about this? or could it be a loose sensor or dirty one. thanks thierry
  15. hi guys got the the seala sorted today pretty straight forward but had to strip the hub. thanks a million for all your help really appreciate. thierry
  16. Hi guys just got into the van and when I push the indicator switch the indicator came a 1 second and the it just stop. I was checking some fuse and when putting one back in the fuse box it made some sparks! I'm guessing it's shorting somewhere. I've lost the brake lights as well. Do they share the same fuse? Where can I locate the fuse? Any help will be wellcome thanks
