  1. Hi Once you get the steps, can you pass me the young blonde swedish woman? lol Keith
  2. I recently replaced a head gasket on a 1.8 Freelander and got a new "kit" from an ebay seller. The seller was a garage and seemed to know what they were talking about, which gave me some confidence. I bought the "kit" which included the "head saver shim" and the new head bolts, you should use new bolts because they stretch and you won't be able to torque them down properly if you re-use the old ones. I understand that the "head saver shim" is to take up the difference measurement when having the cylinder head skimmed to get it flat. The "kit" contained everything including all the gaskets and seals and was about £50-60, so not exactly a cheapo but definitely a good one. Good luck with the job Keith
  3. Unless it is extremely cheap I wouldn't touch it to be honest.... Good luck Keith

  5. I can understand your comments based upon the £1K quote but I certainly wouldn't scrap a good car for a £500 repair..... I wouldn't scrap my wife's Freelander anyway, I have gotten really attached to my dangly bits and would hate to lose them, jeepers my eyes are watering at the very thought  Thanks for the replies to date, I am still trying to find a local(ish) garage that will quote for the job though.... Keith
  6. UMOMS said that he had the rear head skimmed, so I am assuming that he has a V6 engine. Maybe he will come back and let us know? Keith
  7. Thanks for that Les, that was about my idea of the price, but at £1000 it seems a bit rich... All I need to do now is find somewhere that will do the job, my usual local garage says that there are seven (I think) special tools needed which they do not have, so he cannot do the job, and another LR independent guy says he would not touch a V6??? Must have to much money already Anyway, thanks again Les Keith
  8. Hi all After posting a question yesterday and seeing that it has only had 12 views and no replies I am begining to wonder how many members are owners of the V6 Freelander? Can any owners please post replies so that we get an idea of how many we are?
  9. I wonder how the OP got on? Did you get new tyres and how are they? I recently changed the wheels on my wife's F1 to 17" from 16" and they needed two new tyres. I bought them and had them fitted but when we drove the car it felt awful, like the gearbox was winding up. I went back and had the lot checked and it was discovered that the new tyres on the rear had a bigger circumference than the front by nearly 15mm, and although the front tyres are perfectly good and with loads of tread left, it was decided to have two more tyres fitted so that I had a matching pair. I had read about tyre diameter differences causing problems but I have to say I was shocked at the huge difference between good tyres and new tyres, cost me a darn fortune so please beware of this when replacing tyres. Keith
  10. Hi all We recently bought a V6 Freelander from Paul Greasley Cars Ltd in Leicester which they alleged had had the cam belt changed along with a service, and with this info in mind we went ahead and bought the car. Well after a couple of months of chasing we are still without any documentary evidence that the cam belt has been replaced and looking at what little oil was on the end of the dipstick I am doubting that any of the work has been carried out. Mr Greasley is now not communicating with me and we will probably have to go legal to get this sorted out. I have had a quote from Rockingham Landrovers (our local independant) to carry out the work and it comes in at a tad over £1000. This seems to be very expensive to me and I am wondering if anyone can advise me with regard to a less expensive garage somewhere in the Northants or East Midlands. I have read about cam belt changes from as little as a couple of hundred pounds which is why I am bulking at spending a thousand or so..... (this price does include a full service by the way, although I am unsure what is included there ????). Hopefully looking forward to some helpful replies. Many thanks in advance Keith
  11. Hi I have just replaced the wheels on my wifes Freelander from the original 16" 3 spoke sports wheels to the later type 17" six spoke type. The newer wheels had tyres on them but two of them were rubbish while two were good. I replaced the two worn out ones with brand new tyres and had them fitted to the rear of the car as advised on this website (many thanks ) and all seemed well. The car looked superb with the new alloys and wife was thrilled. We went out for a run of about 30 miles and as soon as the car got up to about 50 MPH there was a noise and a vibration. We came home from our trip out and I sat reading these pages on this forum and realised what was wrong. Next morning I went back to the local garage and had them measure the diameter of the front and rear tyres, there was a 15mm difference between the old tyres and the new ones, so out came the trusty card and we now have four brand new tyres fitted. I took the car along the A14 at speeds up to 70 MPH and not a sound could be heard and definitely no vibrations. So thankfully the new tyres have solved the problem and my wife now has good solid rubber under her for some time to come. I am left with a 17" Michelin on the spare and one in the garage so I hope that we never have to use the spare in case it causes the vibration to come back..... Thanks to all your posts, which allowed me to resolve this issue without (hopefully) causing any long term ailments to my wifes car. Keith
