  1. I guessed i may need some sort of sealant/adhesive to hold the stat in place- thanks for the confirmation! Do you think the guys in the factory had to look around for the end of a tube of some sort of adhesive to stick the stats in??!! I have the genuine stat and have not managed to tighten up the housing without the stat slipping out. Picked up 3 new gaskets yesterday in case it takes a few more tries.
  2. Hello all, When fitting a new thermostat, ow do you hold the thermostat in place while you put the housing on? There is a tiny groove for the thermostat to sit in but it doesn't stay there iunless you hold it..... Hope you know what i mean! The car is a '93 3.9 RRC
  3. I've had enough. I bought a RRC last Feb. I knew it would be unreliable, need jobs doing etc and I wasn't wrong. It's just that every job, simple on a german car, turns into a massive ordeal. I drove it home and a few times before the centre viscous packed up. Changed that then gave it a service. Then the temp started climbing whne driving. So i changed the water pump, thermostat all the belts etc - again was a horrible chore - then had water leaks, redid some of the earlier jobs again. Finally after months of fiddling, i got it finised today. I started it up........and out comes smoke from the belts/pulley area. I closed the garage door and I never want to see the thing again. In general its a nice example, used to run beautifully, got leather and all the toys, suspension works etc. I wonder if I'm better off breaking it for parts of selling it as a repairable? :(
  4. Sorry, should have said its a 3.9. There's no corrosion on the outside of the rad and the fins are clear. New rads aren't cheap
  5. Hi all, I've got a 93 RRC V8 which has been overheating. You can trundle along on the flat or slowly or leave it all day idling without any problems but once you speed up or if you're going uphill it overheats, So far I've changed the coolant, waterpump, viscous coupling and it still overheats. I went to change the thermostat but found there wasnt one installed! COuld this cause overheating or is it more likely someone else has removed it to try and cure the overheating? Last thing to try is the radiator i suppose? There's none of the usual signs of head failure. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave.
  6. I'm trying to replace my water pump on a 3.9 RRC but I'm stalled at the first step....I can't undo the viscous fan nut. There's no belt there to hold the water pump pulley in place so what are my other options? I've seen a suggestion to make a tool that holds 2 of the bolts in place but i don't have facilities to make something like that......
  7. Hello, I'm in South Wales too and just picked up a Range Rover classic and dying to get out and about! Total land rover novice though so need someone to show me the ropes and pull me out when i get stuck!
