  1. We have a bit of an update to this, problem has got slightly worse in the fact it used to be ok with just snorkel top removed but that doesnt work now,the combinations that allow full power etc at present are as follows Airbox with filter but no airbox end Snorkel direct to turbo without airbox or snorkel top Any other combination causes top hose to flatten + lose all power Its not exactly economical either to be honest The 300tdi we put in chris' s land rover came from an auto discovery so it had the edc fuel pump, this was removed + the mechanical 200 pump was used instead The engine was only able to be tested in 1st gear in the disc due to a shot autobox however all was fine + chris has this problem in all gears including 5th Immediately it makes sense to say the pump is only thing different so thats the cause however I have done alot of searching + found people that have use either pump on either engine + pump timing etc is the same too, but one person has said they are different although gave no reason why Id like to think it is as easy as swapping the pump to a mechanical 300 pump yet I realy dont see that being the issue Another problem is that last week it started pumping out smoke of all different colours which im yet to go take a look Cheers
  2. Team Idris - Do you know what the actual problem is with reverse idler failure? Nige - already got a lever for difflock, plunger system is awful, I had been told about the cross shaft but plenty of searching reveals nothing, any info on this or other points on the box? Marc - Yes i had read about that, seems a daft idea to make the cage out of plastic I have been offered a very well priced LT77 from a v8 disco, i know its short stick but thats fine + i know the 77 isnt as robust as the 95 the one thing thats pulling me towards it is the fact that there are plenty more around, cheap + i can rebuilt it for a pretty decent price compared to the ridiculous priced parts of the 95 Id rather the 95 as have also been offered an apparently 'good' one but only if i can sort the weak issues for a sensible price Bit on info here on how mine went, Has been very sweet box with nothing to suggest any issues, oil levels were good as checked them saturday before off road day sunday Was fine all day, i went up a climb which drops down straight over the top into ruts + my front wheels got caught on the rut edge + turned right but the ruts go down the hill left, only way to correct was to reverse back up the hill a tad to take the pressure off the allow me to steer, the hill was probably 50 degrees or so Started to reverse + it went, sounded like diff ring + pinion failure, i managed to get help + back on flat ground, tried to pull it out of difflock but was solid, eventually got it out + couldnt drive just loads of gear grinding from the box, struggled to re-egage difflock to allow me to drive again With no diff lock i can move if extremely gentle so theres my problem
  3. Hi everyone I know some may just say go auto or fit an r380 etc but although It may seem a bit odd but i actually realy like the LT95 gearbox, apart from that reason its strong as an ox going forward however it seems to have a couple of weak points + one of them being high loads in reverse 1. centre diff in general 2. reverse gear idler Firstly are there any other real weak points that cause issues? I know some of the bearing are bronze but im not looking at them points as weak points at the moment Secondly, does anybody know of ways to strengthen the above issues? Many thanks James
  4. Imust say that is a very smart + neat install
  5. Is this just a case of turn up on the day or pre book? cheers
  6. Im ordering up some budget bowrope, after talking to david he mentioned that they have not had a single failure in the year they have been selling it Main reason its cheaper is because he has it made in china, he spebt a long time finding a company that were able + willing to make it at a price with the quality that was required
  7. using 12v compressor to help v8 wading, does it work? Hi all this is only as a temporary measure till i get megasquirt + as it will cost me nothing its worth a go Im sure some of you have read on the net in places that people have used small 12v compressors connected to the distributor via a fitting drilled + sealed to the dizzy cap, siliconed the cap down + switching on before going into water + it working providing it wasnt windscreen deep for a length of time working on the basis that its keeping the dizzy pressurised to the water cant get in due to the air pressure, makes sense I tried + wasnt dissapointed however not satisfied either, i switched on before going in, got stuck in deep ruts + water was just in line with tops of the sills but obviously as it dropped into the hole water went up under bonnet It still ran ok + revved ok providing i didnt rev it hard, after 5 mins with it running while i was winching myself out it was fine again so not a total failure but id like it better Has anyone had any actual success using the 12v compressor method or knows any tricks? Like i say its just to get me by till end of march when ill be running megasquirt cheers james
  8. Bugger, i want one but going to have to wait till next time due to funds, cant do much till end of feb
  9. I have looked at converting but it seems the cost to convert is pretty high, from the couple of threads ive read it seems it cost the people in the region of £400 to convert, unless you know of a cost effective way? James
  10. Cheers fpr the replies guys I had £500 in my head, its just that ive been offered a pair of axles with arb's, ashcroft shafts + cv's, if i can get the money together this will then be sold on to recoup some ££ Id keep it if the ashcroft shafts fitted the salisbury I suppose i could sell the build up rear + just buy some ashcroft shafts for this instead, hmm Drums on back dont bother me, may be a better option
  11. Hi all just curious about what a drum braked salisbury axle with a rear arb locker + HD flanges is worth? Cheers James
  12. I think ive been lucky + stumbled across the winch i have, looks to be a dc200 , an 8000lb winch or a dc300 which is a 9000lb winch, both have 470:1 gear ratio with a 2.5hp motor so not entirely sure how there is 1000lb difference, anyway from what ive been looking most 8000lb winches come with 8mm cable This cable is in pretty good visual condition, ill still try get my lowline on for the weekend though Cheers for the help
  13. Ordered some of that tubular webbing, came through today so ive been sat here splicing some ropes Liked the idea of the fabric fire hose but bit tricky to find Cheers both for the replies James
  14. Cant help too much with the range rover side of the wiring but generally the blue wire from head unit will give a +12v to switch on the amp Aftermarkets amps just have a large earth, a large live to battery + the small remote wire from head unit
  15. Cheers guys, started on the gwyn lewis bits today, previous owner had made his own relocation cones which the right side was welded in + the left was bolted in + fitted from the top before the fuel tank wad fitted + it wouldnt fit through spring hanger All in all i got half as much done as i should have, this is the downside with buying something non standard, ill get some pics of tomorrow
  16. Hi As above, does anyone know where i can buy the material that is used on the softeyes for ropes? My dads been splicing ropes for years + has always done our ropes but we never put the protective material on the eyes as couldnt find out what it was or where to get it, couple of rope suppliers ive called dont sell it separately Cheers James
  17. Its not on his shop but the budget bowrope shackles are along with 2 downloadable flyers about it http://www.goodwinch.com/budget-bowrope-news/
  18. Hi Spoke to david bowyer today (nice guy) about winch ropes + he suggested his budget bowrope as im not doing challenges I havnt heard of it till now He said he has had no issues whatsoever with it + it walks out the doors at shows I have no reason to doubt what he said as I hear alot of good about him but curious whether anyone has used it or knows anyone who has Looking at ordering tomorrow/monday for next weekend
  19. Its ok I will not be using it with the 8mm cable, ive spoken to david bowyer + will either be giving his budget bowrope a go or removing the ramsey + fitting an 8000lb lowline I have which has a new 9mm cable Thanks for all the replies guys + if any of you recognise what winch it is any indo would be great, cheers
  20. Hi guys thought id put this up here, my new toy but theres bits i dont like + ill be changing Its a 72 bobtail which was what ive been after for a while but this was won on ebay for very much the right price, £837 Came with ramsey winch Salisbury rear axle Rear ARB locker + ARB compressor X-brake handbrake 265 special tracks 4" lift 2" bodylift Mot'd till feb few other bits but well well worth the money Rear tailgate has been removed + replaced with a flat sheet of chequer plate with spare wheel which I despise so a tailgate will be refitted + spare will come off + probably go inside Rear crossmember has been made with the centre of a series crossmember which is also horrible so ill be going along the lines of the d44 range rover with rear winch Front winvh bumber will come off as I have a nice scorpion 8274 bumper from years ago, an 8274 will end up in the front but for the time being there will be a lowline winch up front The 3.5 carb engine is lifeless + tired so im picking up a 4.0 serp from a p38 which will end up megasquirted when fitted There things like rear springs have no spring seats just clamped down to a flat plate on the axle, so ive ordered seats Trailing arms are standard so ive got some cranked ones to go on as well as some gwyn lewis challenge shock mounts, disc type spring retainers, upper spring relocators with hooks + +5.5 shocks All in all though im very happy, better get busy as im out in it on 21st :-)
  21. Heres the pics. As I said it does seem old, handle on the left isnt original but is the freespool lever that rotates left to right Spoke to uk ramsey dealer + they cant do anything without a serial number, aparently its gearbox end but cant find it, may well be because everything is covered in carp, looks like the previous owner needed a jetwash lesson, everything is pretty mucky on whole car Cheers
