  1. I hope someone can help. I run a 300 TDI 1996 Defender. This last summer it started dying for no reason after about a minute it would start and might be OK all day or it might only run for a few miles and cut out again. Anyway I changed the stop switch solonoid and it cured it or seemed to, today it cut out twice. Its been OK for maybe 1000 miles, again it started up alright after about a minute. My question is , does the system have a relay fitted, Ive looked at a 1995 wiring diagram and it looks like the stop switch wire goes straight to the ignition switch. But trolling through the internet Ive seen reference to a Fuel Pump Relay will my motor have one of these?? One of my mates thought that the power for the solonoid went through the heater plug relay would that be correct?? Any help would be appriciated Thanks in anticipation Keith
  2. I run a 1996 Defender 300 TDI. This was built in October 1995. Its one of the first ones to be fitted with a cat converter. My question is I would imagine that shortly the front pipe will need re placing. If I change it for one minus the converter will it make any difference to the running of the vehicle? I fancy a stainless system but have been told that they are noisier than the metal ones. Would not having a converter make any difference to the smoke test on MOT?? Any thoughts.I would imagine that someone out there has done this. Thanks in anticipation. Keith

  4. Does anyone know where I CAN PURCHASE EITHER GALVANISED OR STAINLES BODY CAPPINGS FOR A 1996 ,90 DEFENDER. THE REAR CAPPINGS AROUND THE LIGHTS ARE IN A AWFULL CONDITION,I SAW A DEFENDER LIKE MINE THE OTHER DAY WITH WHAT LOOKED LIKE STAINLESS SIDE AND REAR CAPPINGS (I SHOULD HAVE LEFT A NOTE ON IT ASKING THIS QUESTION)THANK IN ANTICIPATION.   5. I hope someone can help with this problem. Its a 1996 defender 300TDI done 75000miles. The other day without warning it just stopped (as though I had turned ignition off), it wouldnt start but re started after about 2 minutes and ran fine. I kept it running and wiggled the wire to the stop solonoid nothing happened. I checked a few other wires ,and pushed all the fuses, it still ran. Today after abut 15 miles it stopped again (at traffic lights) but re started after 2 minutes once again then no problem all rest of day. Ive ordered a new solenoid. Can you get intermittent faults on the solonoid ?? Could it be anything else like lift pump playing up?? What about the EGR would that have any effect?? Basically am I looking in the right place. Where is the main earth wire ?? theres one on the bulkhead and thats fine. By the way mines a Bosch pump and the solenoid looks a bit of a sod to get to any tips?? Thanks for your help. Keith
