  1. yeah but I don't have a dashboard to fit it to now :-) Oh and I have got some sound insulation now, its not actually in the car yet but I do have some ;-) W
  2. oo hang on, Marine stuff looks to do the trick, anyone use any of these? GaugeyWirelessDoofa ShineyAmpyDoofa Will :-)
  3. Lots of top replies folks. I'm not worried about bluetooth connectivity to be honest, I was quite happy to plug in via the headphone socket but then again Apple have ditched the headphone socket so I'd be stuffed at next upgrade :-/ I did wonder about the 2A bit given the old radio that is now in my P38 is on a 10A fuse :-) I was trying to avoid putting a proper radio in, there isn't a place on the dash for it now I've gone for the Series two style dash in the 110. This doofa would have sat neatly on the bulkhead almost out of sight. The Alpine Amp on the link above presumably needs a head unit to control it? I couldn't see an AUX input on it :-/ I might be better off either ignoring my phone or building a roof console I suppose. Will :-)
  4. My 110 is nearing roadworthiness at last. With my stripped back Series two style dash I wasn't going to bother putting a radio back in it. I rarely drive far enough to need tunes and to be honest I'd rather not know whats going on in the world, however it did occur to me today after my bluetooth speaker played my phone on speaker that perhaps its worth having some form of speaker system to act as a handsfree system. So a bit of ebay surfing later threw up this ebay Amp doofa . Now that would screw neatly to my stripped down bulkhead and wire into my speakers and even a sub-woofer if I got carried away. It'd run my iphone tunes and phone from a dashmount with not too many trailing wires, oh and its cheap enough to be throwaway if I ruin it with water and mud. What do we think? Anyone got any experience of such things Will :-)
  5. There are several air suspension Defenders about. Pretty certain my memory is making this up and Si from X-Eng had his on air, must have been 15years ago ish. I'd love my 110 to be on air, I love the air on my P38 even if it does drive me nuts sometimes with its quirks. Will
  6. A mate of mine who worked on the Defender line says they were told Autocars rendering was very close to New Defender. I'm pretty happy with that.
  7. That white one is just achingly beautiful! I would love that! Sadly I fear my metalworking will come up some way short of that! Will :-)
  8. I have my 110 in bits at the moment, I've stripped the dashboard out to do the usual bulkhead repairs and I've decided not to put the standard dashboard back. I have a bit of a plan to put a custom centre dash in, a sort of modernised Series Two type affair. Has anyone else done something like this? I'd hate to finish my plan off then one of you chirp up with a better idea than mine ;-) Why change it? Well, my dash is too much of a mess to put it back and anyway I'd like to simplify it all a bit to make adding electrickery extras easier. Will :-)
  9. Fuel in there was put in in November. It has been running perfectly for two days though since its lay up and didn't break down it was just just stopped as normal one night and failed to start the following day. Fuel is free flowing to the injection pump with the ignition on. Its the pump that seems not to be working for some reason or another. Snapped chain maybe? Diesel sync-mate been tried and says all OK Stop solenoid is working. Is there another potential electrical culprit? Fuse or carp connection maybe... Will :-(
  10. Here is todays brain teaser folks. My p38 (M plate DSE) was un-used for a few months and its battery died. I fitted a new battery and she fired up straight away, ran it for a few minutes with the door open and the air suspension and everything was working sweetly. charge light is on below 2000rpm but belt is a tad slack so didn't worry about that. I drove it around for the day cheerfully wallowing in having it back and running nicely. Parked it up at the end of the day and the following day it wouldn't start. I popped the bonnet and saw all the leak off pipes were wet and one was bubbling fuel so i ordered some pipe and replaced them all. Still wouldn't start. I took the fuel feed pipe off the injector pump and stuck it in a milk bottle, ignition on and a plentiful supply of derv came through. Next up I removed the fuel feed off the injector at the gearbox end and got no2 son to try and start it, drip......drip..........drip. ummm took fuel feed off the radiator end injector and did same, nowt, not even a drip. Then the rain came back so I handed it to the local garage for a look. they checked the stop solenoid which seemed fine. No other ideas. I've got a diesel sync unit from a fine chap hiring them out, first plug in it flashed green and second time I tried it was solid green so seems the injector pump is sync'd ok. Bloody thing still won't start though, turns over fine but just won't fire. Any suggestions before I give in and trailer it 20miles to someone who will charge me a fortune? Will :-(
  11. I tried comfort and bling with my peacock coloured P38 recently, it just didn't suit me, I even considered selling my 110 :-o My 110 definitely won't be getting blinged or sold now I have seen the light. As for everyone else blinging their defenders, crack on I say, keep them nice and tidy so we have a good stock of bits in years to come. I can't wait til Newbury Sort-out is full of nice repairable custom made leather seats and so on :-) Will :-)
  12. Just discovered that at lunchtime, on the plus side the EAS is in fine health with no faults listed :-) Ordered a doofa for the phone as suggested :-) Will
  13. Wow thanks for your efforts chaps :-) the new sensor hasn't arrived in the post today :-( so another day with no progress. The connection for my phone sounds like a very good move. I have got an lead and EAS software for the laptop but haven't set it up yet, not sure if that will clear anything other than EAS faults. I'll give it a go tonight if the rain holds off :-) Cheers Will :-)
  14. I wasn't sure if 'boost control' was the sensor on the fuel filter or something else. I'll replace the sensor next then. would you expect that to clear the fault or is it another 40mile trip to hook it up again? If it is then I'm buying a doofa to do it myself! 'Chipping' is an external black box that lives on the n/s inner wing, no makers mark :-/ it looks a bit bodged in to be honest but the RR certainly went well before this caper started :-) Cheers chaps Will :-)
  15. So, the saga continues. I have replaced the suspect pipe and we have hooked it up to clear the fault codes. 3 logged: 146 brake switch 25 glow control 135 boost control Still no improvement, any suggestions? Will :-)
  16. M plate Paul. Replaced the suspect pipe but no improvement. Hooked it up to a mates laptop but it couldn't speak to it to see if theres a fault logged :-/ Ho hum.. Will
  17. Haha, the braiding on the pipe to the sensor on the fuel filter is worn through and it looks like it might well be holed! I'll see what I can blag to replace it tomorrow. Progress I hope.... Will :-)
  18. It doesn't appear to have a MAF sensor Paul :-/ Everything else mentioned seems to be a blighter to get at, couldn't see anything like a vacuum pipe anywhere near the turbo but its a bit of a black hole up under there! The search goes on :-( Will
  19. Cheers all, thats a bit more to go on :-) I'll report back after further investigation...... Will :-)
  20. So just over a week into my P38 dse ownership and theres a sudden lack of input from the turbo. It has been chipped and did go like a scoulded cat from 2000rpm. Now theres no boost from the turbo at all, 1 in 4 hills are now 1st gear instead of 2nd/3rd. It still revs to the red line ok, no smoke, everything seems fine other than the lack of get-up-and-go. I have taken the hose off from the plastic air inlet to turbo and looked down it at 3000rpm and it didn't seem to be delaminating which was my first thought. Its not easy to see far down it though so it maybe collapsing lower down. If nobody has any better ideas I'll take it right off and have a proper look. I did let it get a little low on fuel, light had just come on and I was going up a 1 in 3 hill when it lost power so maybe its picked up some carp and blocked the fuel filter? Is there anything else obvious anyone can think of? Cheers Will :-)
  21. Darn it, Bruv got a silly offer and sold the D2 :-) Cheers for chipping in anyway folks. Back to Plan A and looking for a manual P38a.... Will :-)
  22. Does anyone on here run 255/85x16s on a Discovery2? I'm looking for a short term replacement for my 110 whilst I rechassis it and my brothers TD5 Disco might be an option. I need decent tyres so the thought of swapping the 110s boots over occured to me to save a few quid. I know I'll need to lift it a bit but how much? It will need to run at full articulation... Thoughts? Will :-)
  23. There is a strong case for making a small Land Rover to take on the mule market so beloved by farmers now. i'd like to see that, mules are damn expensive and I reckon the market is there for the taking by LR. series ones are mule sized so they had it right to start with ffs! I quite like the Autocar version of Defender, still a bit fussy here and there for my tastes but it could be an awful lot worse. It needs to have a design life of 20+years to appeal to the fleet users, more important that cost I'd say, resale values will be strong if they make a point of this. This is something LR have let slip in the past, look how many D2s are turning to dust, I wonder how far behind D3s are? It'll be interesting to see how their more complicated chassis are for longevity... Will :-)
  24. I melted the entire start/charge loom on my 110 doing this, it was a right mess. Will :-)
  25. Nothing but good things to say about BFG ATs I ran them for a couple of years in 235/85x16 size on a Discovery1, as H4H said above they are surprisingly good offroad too, I found they gripped like hell with the pressures dropped a bit. I've used Pirelli STs on most of my Discoverys and Range Rover P38, again I couldn't fault them. I've heard good things about the Continental Cross Contacts, http://bermudarover.wordpress.com/ <<<have a look here, I met Craig recently and he is very pleased with them. Will
