  1. Its times like this that its tempting to wish I didn't have kids, dogs and a wife... Very jealous Chris, I've been itching to get back to the Alps for years, I've got loads of mates and family out there. My next holiday is planned for 2014 Will
  2. I was prepared to say this had some merit right up 'til I saw the colour coded towball cover, thats a step too far. Will
  3. Clive is still making them. :-) All is well with the world. I'll post a pic of mine when its fitted Will
  4. A tiny hole in the 110s rear crossmember is a bit worse now after a serious prod, realistcally t'other side isn't far behind so given the amount of offroad towing of a sanky I do I reckon its worth replacing the whole crossmember. So the question is, who do I buy one from? Paddocks have these: http://www.paddockspares.com/lr510-rear-x-member-basic-to-wa159806.html or these: http://www.paddockspares.com/lr512-rear-x-member-with-extentions-110-to-wa159806.html Devon4x4 - Bearmach http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=1998&category_id=1013100&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=14 Anyone got any experience of the Bearmach one? good fit or the usual big hammer required? Will
  5. Cheers for your input folks. I've cracked it now thanks to a mate who is in the know. Its not as straightforward as applying a mileage rate but it means I have a means of quantifying the cost of operating the 110 for the purpose in hand. Will
  6. No. What gave you that impression? I am working on a project that is 1/2 hours drive offroad from the nearest tarmac and need to factor in costs and have some justification in place for audit purposes. Will
  7. I have a project on the go that is a tad remote, like an hours round trip over bridleways/open moorland/river crossings etc Somehow I need to justify the costs of using the 110 for this. I'm guessing the AA recommended 40p per mile is a bit off The Land Rover is a 200tdi, so if I was to say at 50mph it did 25mpg it would use 2 gallons an hour. So if I am doing an offroad trip that is an hours return journey that is 2 gallons of fuel. I still use 40p/mile for charging my clients so if you were to go back to the 50mph thing you'd be looking at £20/hour Do we reckon that is fair or am I way off and should be thinking about factoring in a new set of superpro bushes and a complete change of fluids over the project? Will
  8. Yippee, replacement dropped off ready to fit tomorrow night :-) Will
  9. Think I have got a replacement. I'd love to Nige to sort me one but mega skint nowadays One day... Will
  10. Look what I've done. Cue colourful language Will
  11. Bloody stupid idea. We all hate MOT time but its one legal requirement that is there for a good reason. I can't think of a single reason to waste Government time in dreaming up the idea of scrapping it for pre '60 cars. Every civil servant that has gone along with this should be lined up and shot (Clarksons Rule). This sort of Government tinkering should be put to one side until the NHS, Forces and Police are sorted out properly*. Humpf Will *(Gov time spent increasing the free vehicle excise duty cut-off to 1990 will be tolerated)
  12. I hope you are mixing it up with somewhere else as this is a bridleway Will
  13. Yes I did go right through, I thought I should concentrate though and not do it one handed holding my phone videoing the event Same river at its normal level, at this level its a little over half way up the wheels of the 110 in the middle Will
  14. another vote for the if you want to spend £50 don't look through any £600+ binoculars or you'll find yourself inviting yourself to peoples houses to rummage down the backs of their sofas Mother-in-law likes her garden birds and I thought she was bonkers spending £800 on a pair of Binoculars until I looked through them. Personally I have a pair of ebay cheapo rubberised 10x50s that were £25 or so, a pair of compact zoom binoculars that were £80ish, a pair of 8x30 freebies that came with some tools I bought years ago and a very useful 20-60x spotting scope that was £100 Will
  15. I was eyeing up the intercooler in the back of a coach a while back, huge thing, looked just the job for the front of my 110. I've tried searching ebay for truck and coach intercoolers a few times but haven't found one cheap yet. Will
  16. Thats exactly what I'd do. I'd probably leave it at that and not replace the hinge though Will
  17. ahem, Dulux. Its amazing how good a finish you can get with just a decent 2" brush and a warm day. Slap plenty of decent polish on afterwards and nobody knows you only spent £8 on the 're-spray' Will
  18. Thanks Ralph, I couldn't find that for looking Will
  19. Does anyone have a linky to an online parts book for Freelander one numbers? Will
  20. The Evoque convertible was here on Sunday, they were doing an early morning photoshoot up on the moor not far from me. Will
  21. I use whatever is cheapest and can't remember ever having a problem. The 110s washers don't have jets just tubes extended onto the wiper arms so I get a big short burst of water above the blade, this seems to work well for me to shift clods of mud offroad. Day to day I keep the screen rainX'd since having a new screen last year and its rare that I need to use the washers onroad at all. Will
  22. Imagine the fustration I have knowing so many offroad 'shortcuts' on Exmoor that I can no longer drive Gits Will
  23. You'll need a +2" lift and a trim of the back arches to fit 235/85s, you may know that already but its worth a mention. Snow grip depends entirely on the snow. On compacted snow I'd sooner drive my Mini than the 110 on BFG Muds with a LSD rear axle. On fresh snow MTs are brilliant. The most sure footed car I've driven on snow was our old P38 Range Rover on Pirelli STs, the Freelander we had was good too but that did have Dunlop winter tyres fitted. Will
  24. Well its the Newbury sortout in a couple of weeks, better get some extra work done, look down the back of the sofa, sell a kidney or something Will
  25. My Exmoor Trim retrims are looking a bit tatty after a couple of years use. Worse than I'd expect of a two year old Defender anyway. The vinyl seems a bit thin and is peeling off the backing. Anyone elses looking prematurely tired or do I just have a rough ar5e? Will
