  1. If I can make a suggestion Les, it would be inspiring to have a link added for what is often called a "money bomb". An inspirational graph showing update donations to keep this forum alive for many years to come is of great importance. If there is a graph with say a peak of £5000.00,, this creates an inspiration for all of us to blow the lid off. Another thing that might provide insight Les, is I have tried numerous times to make donations where each month a small portion is taken out of an account for this forum. My limited abilities understanding how to do this has prevented me from making these donations so far and I had only just begun typing a message to the moderators for help before bumping into this thread. A summary on my response is,,, I wish to donate into a money bomb knowing this forum will be there for us all in the future,, and I wish there was a simple way a little amount is taken from my account each month to show my gratitude. Best regards Phil.... PS. I also believe the moderators should have some financial payment to at least cover there time and effort.! And no, I am not a moderator,, but I know from experience how many days and nights these people work in helping people.
  2. Thankyou Si for the detailed info. Very well explained.! Phil...
  3. f anyone does a group buy in the next month or so could you let me know. Cheers Ian I am interested also, as long as the package comes with a genuine 40watt light bulb. Regards Phil.
  4. I have not used this particular brand name, but do have high brightness LED lights setup in and under my Landy. Heck my whole house is all LED lighting these days anyway. But what I find is that the light does not scatter well enough to give a good visual on everything. For EG: If you point the light on the oil filler cap you will see it perfectly,, But you will struggle to see anything else. Hope this helps. Phil....
  5. I had a similar issue with my Temp gauge and it annoyed the heck out of me. Every time I was in a hurry or towing a boat then quickly the temp gauge went into the red. I keep my Landy in perfect mechanical condition and knew it was not overheating in reality. Latter I noticed turning on the headlights the temp gauge would rise slightly. Anyway, after putting in a new wire from the firewall to the gauge earth,, all was fixed. Phil....
  6. Another possibility is to convert the exhaust heat into refrigeration. There were some trucks using this system to refrigerate food goods during transport. From memory the ejector tube concept was used, and latter the ammonia/hydrogen concept. Wood ant bee too difficult to design a system to cool down the air intake for more horse power. Then again,,, if you can at least achieve COP 1.5 conversion efficiency, pumping snow flakes out the exhaust would be a trip. Phil...
  7. My wife owns an Upholstery shop, and rubs in bees wax where stitching areas could leak. Apparently petroleum based sealants damage the canvas and stitching over time. At least bees wax is not toxic like the silicon and petroleum sealer's. Phil...
  8. Hi Mav,,, Electronics is my day job so we will see if I can help. The yellow wire (from stereo)should be connected directly to battery Pos. This holds the memory for the stereo. The red wire (from stereo) goes to the accessory wire, so the radio powers up when you turn the ignition key to ACC. Ok, some stereo's when you directly connect both the yellow and red wire together have a mental breakdown, causing no sound and buttons not working correctly. Usually they like having the memory active before you power up the unit. There maybe other things connected wrong thats causing you problems. If you can get a good clear pic of your wiring connections I might be able to diagnose what could be wrong. Regards Phil....
  9. I LOVE IT.!!! The colour scheme brings back memories for me as a child playing with Lego. Clip bits on then they fall off. Weird how things never change with bigger toys. LOL Phil...
  10. Hi Jason... The pressure switch is usually located on or near the drier bottle, and if you unplug the wire from the switch, just short out the 2 contacts in the plug on the wiring harness. If for some reason the pump does not switch on you most likely still have gas pressure. In that case unplug the single wire from the pumps clutch and run a wire from the battery Pos to the pump clutch. If the pump still does not work the clutch is at fault. Basically if shorting the pressure switch wires makes no difference, and the clutch does turn on with a power wire,, you will have a blown fuse or faulty thermostat circuit. Regards Phil...
  11. I have to agree with most of the posts here, Where you need to put in a bottle or 2 of injector cleaner in the tank and take the vehicle for a hard run. If you want to go a step further with brute force,,, take off the fuel filter and replace with a new one but before fitting this, fill up the filter with a good quality injector cleaner. Regards Phil.....
  12. Rust and corrosion... I should write a book how it can make a person insane. They say,, a stitch in time will save nine. Yeah right,, try to stitch up a rusty Landy door frame. Phil....
  13. Don't worry mate all will be fine.! I have fitted over a thousand timing belts in my time, and If there are no oil leaks by now it will be perfectly ok. It is understandable how you are concerned though. Regards Phil.....
  14. There is a stretch of road where my defender would go into a violent death wobble. The road has a few pot holes and is uneven, but I would have to slam on the brakes and hold up traffic until I could get control of the steering wheel. After checking every suspension part, swivel housings, steering damper, everything was perfect. I took the vehicle in for a wheel balance and they found 2 tires had a slight bulge on the inside walls. Removing the tires we could see how the walls had separated even though the tires still had 60% tread. Anyway, a new set of rubber all round and no problems now, except I had to get a second job to pay for them. Phil....
  15. One thing that can cause brake judder is the wheel nuts not evenly tensioned. Another thing is that all new rotors are covered in a thin film of grease, where many mechanics do not bother (or know) to clean this off. New rotors must be scrubbed and scrubbed again,, with a wax and grease remover until they are perfectly free of any oily substance. It is rare for the average mechanic to properly clean new rotors.! And that goes for new flywheels as well...... They must be perfectly cleaned so no oily substance is impregnated into particular areas of the disk. Regards Phil..... PS: I haven't heard good things said about Britpart,,, but I have never used them myself so I can not debate on that.
  16. That is great news mate, and thanks for confirming your results. Regards Phil......
  17. Hold the seatbelt mechanism vertical (strap pulling upwards) against your kitchen wall. It will release immediately. In OZ we have to hold them upside down to release. Regards Phil....
  18. The fact is that most countries have a specific slant (curvature) on the road surface. Different spring heights are used to make sure the vehicle tracks in a straight line. Regards Phil....
  19. One hard smack with a hammer on the bolt head, and it then should undo easily. The bolt is under tension and usually the thread has been glued with loctite, and why you need to jolt the bolt inwards to break its seal. Regards Phil......
  20. If I correctly understand your description, then yes it seems the brake master cylinder is at fault. It is often more practical to replace the master cylinder as a complete unit, than put a kit through the old one. I am a retired mechanic now,, but would get very frustrated with brake faults where others have fitted wrong sized brake shoes, or topped up the brake reservoir with conflicting fluids that create gas bubbles in the lines.. I once had a clutch issue to deal with, only to notice the clutch master cylinder filler cap was on its side.! Some idiot had the bright idea that another manufacturers master cylinder would work being cheaper, even though you had to park the vehicle on the side of a cliff to top it up. True story. This being said look for past genius repairs and if all is ok, just replace the brake master cylinder and do not stop for anyone. Regards Phil......
  21. It is typical to find the axle has been welded to the hub, and I mean welded purposely as to stop backlash or other issues. Pull the axle completely out "with the hub" as one piece. It will all slide out of the diff with gentle manipulation. Nothing here to worry about and all is easy. Phil.....
  22. I painted my grill and light surrounds in automotive 2pak paint 4 years ago and all is still like brand new. I can not compete with this red defender no matter what.! That's really beautiful. Thumbs up.! Regards Phil....
  23. publicising the fitting of other vehicle manufacturer components into a Landrover is far more an insult that needs censoring, than 2 Landrover owners having a kind debate if the defender is somewhat better than the Discovery. Either way, I am thankful for cookie64 in sharing his experience, and I "was thankful" for views on what Landrover some owned had better heating, or what Landrover they owned is justified with no heating. If your Landrover air conditioner magically works Miserableolgit, switch it on and cool down with the cencorship.... Regards Phil...
