I had exactly the same issue with my black 3.5 efi '89. It turned out to be worn bearings within one of the swivel housings.

Yep. I'd definately be interested in a rust free bonnet and lower tailgate!! GRP would make sense, and I'd pay a reasonable price for them. Either that or rust free steel bonnet and lower tailgate in ardennes green.....but we we all know how scarce they are! I hope your project goes ahead.
