  1. Correct on both counts. Sorry forgot to mention yes it's '97 300 tdi and your also right about the interior light in that the light works when manually switched on but not with the doors opening/closing, not sure about the fogs though. Many thanks will check it out tomorrow.
  2. I have noticed since having a flat battery that I now have no rear wiper or heated screen, no front heated screen, no intermittent function on the front wiper and also both front and rear screens will wash but not wipe. I have checked the relevant fuses according to the hand book but they all appear ok. Is there another fuse that may affect the operation of the above functions or can anybody suggest where to start looking for the soloution before I start taking things apart unnecessarily. The battery was removed and recharged and I have since found there is a drain on it but not had time to track it down yet. I'm not entirely sure if these issues were present before the battery going flat or not but have only noticed afterwards.
  3. I'd advise against Adrian flux, wouldn't suggest them to my worst enemy. Want to know the ins and outs of a cats arse and make you jump through hoops however this happens AFTER they've approved you and taken your money!. They wanted to cancel my insurance after a month due to the fact they had not received details that I had already sent them 3 times about an accident that my farther who is on the policy had had over 4 years ago, crazy people to deal with.
  4. Agree with the marshals issue, I found a nice solid bit of grass to park on just off the Tarmac lane and was told I couldn't park there and was pointed in the direction of a freelander traveling sideways across a field, now I'm not a huge freelander fan but instinct told me if a landy is sideways and struggling a vw golf estate should not follow, so I took evasive action across the field. I then walked past where I was told I could not park about 5 mins later to see the same Marshall happily talking to people in the 3 landys now parked there, his mates I wonder?. No organisation as far as parking was concerned, surly common sense would say where certain vehicles would be best parked ie send the 4x4s into the mud and keep the cars/ vans on the dry stuff.
  5. Went today, what a pile of carp. Trade stands full of cheap tat or rusty junk and 12 quid to get in was at least 10 quid too much. Plus I didn't take the disco and instead took the golf due to it doing over twice the MPG (160 mile round trip) then found I had to park in about 3 inches of mud luckily I didn't get stuck but plenty did including some arse in a spanking new RR Sport lol and the driver of the mx5 next to me wasn't best pleased at all.
  6. Hi I've run a search on this but have turned up nothing so far so am after some help/ ideas. I went out earlier this evening in the light and parked up at my destination, when I returned in the dark I jumped in started the truck and switched on the headlights, the blue main beam indicator illuminated on the dash so I pulled the lever back till it clicked but the main beam indicator remained on. I then looked up expecting to see bright lights but could not see very much at all and thought I had no lights, on getting out to check i found I only had dipped headlights. No matter what position the switch is in that's all I get is dipped beam no 'flashers' either but still the main beam indicator remains illuminated in both dipped and headlight positions. It seems also that there is a relay in the passenger footwell that clicks when I operate the stalk switch. As its dark and the neighbours won't be too happy if I'm out there knocking about in torchlight I am after a few ideas or at least a starting point for my investigations after work tomorrow. Thanks in advance. Trucks a 1998 300 tdi disco ES.
  7. Nice tip that, wish I'd heard that earlier as my tyre fitter told me to stick to the same/manufacturers pressures when I fitted 235/85/16 BF Goidrich MT to my disco 1 and before I knew it both outer/inner edges had worn quite quickly compared to the centre. Have now upped the pressure and they seem to be wearing more evenly now.
  8. When I lock my '97 300tdi disco using the key fob the central locking operates and locks all the doors (indicators flash three times as they should) but then almost straight away unlocks its self, this happens for the first 3-4 attempts then it will stay locked, though I do worry I will come back to it to find in my absence it has unlocked itself, also when I open a door after it has unlocked itself a clicking like a relay sound can be heard coming from near the glove box area. When the doors eventually do lock however the central locking works perfectly i.e. it will lock and unlock in succession with no issue but left to stand for 10 mins the problem returns. Have checked the door sensors, the little button type things in the closures but all seems well. Its worrying as the key doesn't work in the drivers door (turns but nothing happens) so can't lock the truck that way either, any ideas guys? Help will be much appreciated.
  9. As suggested above try a thermostat, I had one that came in a blue box and it took forever to come up to temp then only gave me mildly warm heaters for a short space of time, I took out the said stat and replaced it with a Bearmach one, still only cost about £3:50, now I get warm heaters in about 5 mins they actually warm up quicker than my 2.8 v6 Audi A4 and they now stay warm too. That said the heaters may warm up sooner but the interior of the Audi still reaches a comfortable temperature more quickly simply because the disco is a barn of a thing to heat and probably less well sealed too.
  10. Strata is open to drive all year round but you take your chances at this time of year especially after heavy rain, it can get scary!. Soar y mynydd is quite close and is also a lovely drive.
  11. I've had some different opinions on this subject from friends that work as mechanics or fitters so I want to run two questions past you guys aswell, 1. If I fit a decat pipe to my Disco will I get any real benifits power/economy wise?. Bearing in mind that there doesn't seem to be any issues with the existing cat and I don't consider a 3bhp and/or a 1-2mpg increase to really be worth the effort untill the cat does actually give up and then it would not only be for those savings it would be for saving on the buying a cat itself. 2. If I do decat then will it fail the new incoming MOT regulations as I have heard that any particulate filters or such that were fitted as standard to the vehicle being tested must be present at the time of test.

  13. Took the battery back today as it was still under warrantee and they checked it and told me it was charged and ok, I'd had to use the jump pack to get her going and went straight there approx 2 mins down the road so I'm guessing that short journey would not have injected much life into the battery. I told him I suspected that the battery was simply just not big enough, he then got his big battery book out and said there you go mate its the heavy duty one as advised in here, I looked and the suggested battery was only 450 cca, so I got him to exchange it for a 700cca, which I think is more like it, so fingers crossed eh?.
  14. I lost a good engine due to someone possibly putting thread lock or the wrong strength of thread lock (I am lead to bilieve there are 2 strengths) on the crank pully bolt, it would not be undone. Every trick, even the dodgy/risky ones were tried. To cut a long story short the engine got taken out and swapped again after only being in the truck for about 3 months due to me not being able to change the belt. It sounded really nice and pulled really well, I was gutted, not to mention the cost of a second engine and fitting. So draw from my experience what you will. HTH.
