  1. they are a bit cantankerous - not sure about vss as long as youve got the gps antenna in i think it should work - wait a while and it might WAKE UP ! - i had tmy spare becker in a vectra and it worked fine but wouldnt in a frontera - they are a bit strange
  2. ive done the same drive but from london , ( not in a disco either but a supra ) - dont worry about cc just enjoy the drive, a few mpg here and there wont make much odds to how much you enjoy the trip - great fun and in a d2 you wont have to worry so much about the average speed cams
  3. I think youd do more damage then good tbh , if youve got leaky roofs then the drain tubes are quite likely already broken , if not theyre ever so fragile at the point they join the roof tray - just whip your headlining out its not so bad a job , did mine a few months ago and dry ever since INSTRUCTIONS
  4. water ingress will be from the seal between the sunroof and the roof - take out the headlining and the sunroofs, check all drain tubes are secure and reseal with sikaflex sealer - i had this on my d2 and no amount of external sealer would keep it dry
  5. mine does the same - just every so often - my mates had 2 td5s also and he said both his did it every so often
  6. Thanks Mark i will investigate as soon as it stops raining
  7. oh right , thanks boggy ill run it for a while and see what happens then - fingers crossed i dont have to book it in for diagnostics
  8. any usual suspects that cause this - do you have any idea where the obd plug is and if the codes are listed here anywhere ?
  9. Hi all - bit of a nasty moment earlier with the above lights on all of a sudden and car felt like it was in limp home mode - turned ignition off and on again and lights went out and car drove fine again - should i worry about this ? i have an obd reader will it help ? is this something an auto es might do sometimes as a glitch or is it a sign of problems developing somewhere - any advice please
  10. Hi all - getting to grips with my 2002 es now and next little problem on my list to sort out is heated seats not getting hot - all the fuses seem ok and all the other electrics in both seats work fine - heated seat switches light up when depressed so im presuming power is ok at that point but neither seat gets warm at all - i have a multimeter and will investigate but thought it might be worth a shout on here for any well known causes just in case - also does anyone know which colour wires to test for voltage as i dont want to trip any airbags etc - any help or advice much appreciated, i know its only a little problem but im gettin it all workin by hook or by crook -- oh also car is suffering somewhat from water ingress at the top of windscreen still until it gets replaced just in case that could be a factor re the fusebox - thanks again
  11. quick update - haad a very highly reccomended mechanic come and check my car over and do a oil and filters change today and look into the leak which has been worrying me - thanks guys for all the help - camshaft front oil seal was knackered as suggested so now replaced. Fluid leak quickly identified as from the seal at the bottom of the steering box which was kind of a relief . having read up already on this issue i told the mechanic i will try to find a recon unit rather then attempt a repair as they frequently dont work -- mechanic said he is confident he can replace the seal as he said he doesnt heat up or bash the pressed on arm off which ruins the bearings etc but cuts the arm off and replaces it which doesnt cause stress to the bearings etc and so will go back together and not leak - he is i know very competant as he has done two head changes with no issues for two td5 owning mates - he quoted £80 labour which seems good for doing it all so i might look into finding an arm second hand etc but also will try lucas stopleak first as suggested - question is do i need to siphon off the pas fluid first
  12. oooh oooh !!! thanks ches - could it be that simple - excellent link i will be buying one of those tomorrow - mine is definately tired as it was kinda loose and not a snug fit at all as i was able to push it back in place with a light finger - thanks again
  13. maybe some success here - myself and a mate who has had a few td5s took the covers off the engine and had a poke about - it would appear to be a rocker cover leak from the second cover down if that makes sense at the front of the block and from the round black circle type blanking plate bit on the rocker cover - just been told by a mechanic who will be doing a service on it this area is called the cam-bed and could just need torqueing and hylomarring down or could signify more extensive problems - i know mine still has original egr valve fitted and doesnt look like the oil filter has been changed for a good few years so im wonderin if crankcase breathers etc might be blocked - does anyone have any thoughtws
  14. WOW ! just got back from main dealer quoted £760 for full service or £320 to change engine oil and one filter and general check over - i see dirty hands in my very near future
  15. Cheers rovernut - problem still there but cant see where from the top - havent been brave enuf to take all the covers off and investigate yet - drip does seem to be more brown than red but levels all within tolerances as far as i can tell - gotta look at it this week or at least get it looked at as i dont want to run anything dry and create more expense - i did see a post on here to the effect that a landy doesnt leak it merely marks its territory so from that do i take it they all leak to a certain extent ?
