  1. Hi I have found this, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270751631638&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_949 and just wanted to find out if there is any info on where or what? the seller says it is ex Navy, but can't find out any info on it. It is in a bit of a mess, obviously, but hopefully can be pulled back! Many thanks.
  2. Thanks fro replies, wouldn't there be signs of crumbs , if the pinion teeth or crownwheel were toast? ie when the pan is removed, bits of metal lying around?
  3. Sun gears or cross-shaft? I have looked at hub bearings, they ok, the half shafts seem to turn ok, (I took the off-side one out, that's fine, I can't get near-side one out, it gets stuck right at the end, but when inserted back in, it turns the cog inside, so I presume it is ok). When I took the handbrake off, and try turning the prop, it doesn't turn easily, and seems to be the thing making the noise! what is in the prop shaft end of the diff?? is that where the sun gears are? and the cross-shaft? is it possible to get to them? of is it a new axle? thanks. G
  4. I have Paras fitted to mine, can't be sure of the make tho? wondering maybe m.o.d fitted? as it's ex-military, but 1967? It also has American (I think) shocks, 'Explorer' which are white.. been meaning to ask, if anyone heard of them, and if so, why the lower bushes don't really sit onside properly!! (the shock can be waggled around quite a lot... almost failed M.O.T! held in with a big washer and split pin. probably could do wiv upgrading, however, my axle broke today, so... Anyway, sorry, I totally hijacked the thread, but I do like my parabolics... but I don't know the difference between normal leafs and these. Feels like I'm driving over rocks if I hit a slight imperfection in the road! Hmmm.
  5. I havn't looked at the hub bearings yet. Will take a peek at it all tomorrow, when I have slept on it! I got an idea it could be the half shaft? which would be a better option. I know the whole thing has been leaking oil for some time now, haven't filled it up recently!! is that bad? I'm gonna get a seal, for the pan. I really got to convince my misses that a 42 year old vehicle IS worth having, simply BECAUSE it is 42!! haha! But I have frantically been trying to make the MPG seem better than 12!! (LPG, IS half the cost tho!)
  6. Hi, I have a big problem, I think? got dragged into the hard shoulder, with a skid when something locked up on my axle. I have a salisbury, I'm certain, after much investigation, I sort of wish I hadn't, as it looks like a troublesome fix? could it be I need to get a whole new axle, or just fix the diff? spreader tools!! axle off!! aaaah! I managed to drive it onto the rescue truck and off again, but lots of grumbling from the rear!! Any help appreciated. Cheers. Gem
  7. Hmmm, thanks guys, I re-done the job, the same day as the post, so I didn't get time to read these posts!! I will probably get time to investigate further, and lock-tite the bolts. The threads on this one seem to be ok, the one I changed a couple of months ago, was totally hanging, the threads were smooth.. thie new one is from a series111, about 88 or so, so it could be better, but I hope it lasts this time. I did seal between the bottom of the swivel and steering arm with some silicone this timeand tightened the bolts really well, and new locking tabs.. No leaks so far anyway. Cheers. Gem
  8. I rather like the way they stick out, and add character to the front wheels! why did they bother making them, and why did people still carry on buying them, if they were no good? mine were already fitted, don't seem to have any probs with them so far fingers crossed!
  9. Hi, having after some time, repaired the previously mentioned fault, about two months ago, I was surprised to find that the bolts have worked themselves loose, again!!! defying the bolt 'locking tabs' that are newly replaced!, which means taking the whole damned lot off again and re-tightening the lower swivel pin, after presumably working the bolts back in to the casing? Could it be that because I relied on the 'o' ring stopping oil leaking out, and not applying some sort of sealant between the pin and casing, the oil leaking has lubricated the bolts, and made the nuts loose, or because I have a TDZ power steering thing assisting the otherwise heavy steering, causing undue strain on the swivel pin? any advise asap would be useful, as I have the whole lot off on my drive, which I share with other people at my house! Oh, the beauty is a 109 series 11a 1967. Ta.
  10. Yes, mine gets completely covered in oil too! it made me chuckle reading that, my S2 is like a colander at the moment, could do with the boy with the finger in the dyke, haha! good idea with the bleed nipple breather..
  11. I've got a 5litre can! got on ebay, rusty as, about a hundred years old-looking, needed a good stir, it,s very pale green, the sort of green you wouldn't use ANYWHERE!! apart from somewhere you would hardly ever look! saying that it probably suits an engine better than any other surface! here is the colour, I painted the side of my trailer. It's incredibly hard wearing paint, of M.O.D standard... http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee313/Germwarfair/Landy%20Pandy/DSC03423.jpg

Brilliant! thanks. presumably I can get a relay from any motor factors?

    series lights

Thanks. I am using new halogen bulbs, in wipac units, so I presume they should be ok, and must have been changed by the previous owner, instead of lucas ones. I'll check the earth connection, the switches don't get hot, although with the foot operated dip switch, I can't tell. I think the battery is getting full charge, but will check. Maybe I will update the headlights, one day, after doing a few of the other things that could do with being done...
