  1. Thanks for your reply. You know I think it is the tailgate itself that is rattling a bit. I've adjusted the two rubber door stoppers - when I screwed them in the rattling got worse, so I've unscrewed them as far as I can (made them protrude more) and it seems a bit better. But I'll need to drive it around a bit to see. I think I'd be wasting my time at the garage because these things are hit and miss unless it is a known issue (hence my question). The car is only 5 months and 7,500 miles old, so it shouldn't be rattling at all really! Cheers.
  2. My FL2 has done just 7,500 miles. In the last few weeks it's started making a clunk when I drive over uneven surfaces at relatively low speeds. I've checked all the obvious things - made sure boot cover, rear seats, seat belt buckles, etc are all secure. I can't find anything loose around the spare wheel. The noise seems to come from the rear offside. It's unpredictable - sometimes it's worse than others. I'm reluctant to take it to the dealer just yet because I can foresee a load of wasted time and maybe no result. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or solution before I ring the garage.
  3. Thanks for comments. www.4x4prejudice.org is interesting - hadn't seen it before, but I will bear it in mind. (They need to update the Support page though).
  4. Got back to my Freelander 2 today, parked in a city centre open air car park. There was a note under the wiper that had been designed to look like a police ticket - yellow and black check border. It was a note from a 4x4 hater, telling me I had a bad choice of car. Apparently I'm a threat to the environment and a selfish person! And apparently I don't even drive my 4x4 off-road (even though I do!). Pretty tiresome, and I binned it. Wonder if anyone else has attracted this sort of thing ... or worse?
  5. Cheers for that. Now I know it's not 'normal' I can ask the dealer to tell me what it is. But no rush, as I don't think it's anything major.
  6. Well I found out that another Freelander / manual / diesel also has the Check Engine light, so the driver's manual is a bit confusing there. But the other car didn't make the 'tock' noise as the warning lights went out. Must be something about mine. I'll pop into the dealer sometime, though it's probably nothing of any significance. Still interested if anyone else has the same sound.
  7. Thanks. That's what I thought, but I looked carefully at the warning lights today, and now I'm totally confused ... The 'tock' sound seems to co-incide with the 'Check Engine' amber warning light going out when the engine starts. But according to page 96 of the manual the Check Engine warning light is only for petrol engines. My car is a diesel. I'd be interested to know if any other drivers of diesel models see the Check Engine lamp when they start the engine. It's in the tachometer, between the oil level lamp and the seat belt lamp. Thanks.
  8. Hello, I'm new here. Got a Freelander 2 GS (manual gearbox) a couple of months ago. Pretty happy with it, but wondering if anyone can explain this: When I start the engine, just as all the warning lights go out on the intrument panel, I hear this 'tock' sound (definitely 'tock' and not 'tick' ). It seems to co-incide with one of the lights going out, and because it happens every time I assume it is normal. I was in a automatic the other day, and it didn't make this noise on start up, so my question is ... do other Freelander drivers hear this noise, and what causes it? Cheers.
