  1. I believe that the thread is a quarter inch BSP and you can use a simple tap fitting from a Davy Brown Tractor open when dry closed when wading or in deep water, I am sure I read it on a forum somewhere in the past I fitted one to the series three and it works fine except when you come across unexpected flooded roads and are half way through before you remember to check if you had closed it (don't stop to check) or you can fit a breather to it so you will not need to worry again unless it works free, oh the joys of Land Rover ownership
  2. I bought my current series 3 nearly 4 years ago when it was on a "Q" plate for not much more than a set of new tyres at those prices (£500) and that included 9 months MOT and 3 months tax, however she has been a rolling project since but never been without an MOT, she now has age related plates on a "J" so free road tax, but I have invested five times what I paid for her to keep her rolling along, she has had a new rear fuel tank but needs the two front ones replacing which will have to be made to order as they are filled from their respective wing tops. As long as my jigsaw keeps rolling along I am happy
  3. Most ex military landrovers were softtops so did not have the door issue, the tents flap was strung around the the canvas as seen on the Anchor Supplies picture, the copies do have some issues with the mud flap areas but mines older so I do not have any problems (touch wood)
  4. Please remember that the very early sankey's had a small eye about one inch inside diameter and two inch outside diameter and they went under the A frame, still operated the drum brakes in a similar way to the later drum brake on 1/2 tonne sankey's, mine is a 1953 one and the eye is off this size
  5. I have camped in the back of my 109 Softtop on numerious occasions and enjoyed it you can add a tent to the rear ex military or civilian to extend your living space and if its free standing reserve your camping pitch when on holiday. If you get one which is pre 1973 (1st Jan) it's road tax free saving £180 a year and depending on mileage insurance can be cheaper for classic cars
  6. The piece of metal 4"x10" was painted white to reflect the convoy light to following vehicles ( same as rear diff cover on Land Rovers etc.) and was beneath the trailer body so it could not be seen from the air, you can still buy black and silver number plates with your trailers registration on it for show purposes only, whilst on the road the trailers number plate must be of the same standard as the towing vehicle and identical to it, the show plate must be removed or covered so it is not visible to other road users
  7. Britpart do them not cheap but new (don't know how long they will last though)
  8. Yes the wooden spoon, I currently have 2, a discovery 300tdi and a Series III LWB from South Africa, we also have a Suzuki Alto as a day to day run-a-bout, looking for a 90 but don't tell my wife as I can't afford a divorce as well
