Help needed please. It's a Defender 90 with standard cloth seats and what I presume are the standard seat belt catches. The driver and passengers seat belt lower catch are very stiff and stick right up between the seats. My partner is getting a bit fed up when she has to sit in the middle seat, my seat belt lower catch poking her 'wider-than-usual' bottom and causing general unhappiness and a constant pain in my lughole. I have no intention of changing her ass, that's just fine :-) However I wonder what options there are for changing the seat belt catch and whether there are any legal implications of changing it. I'd like to replace it with something much more floppy that will bend over towards me more and not cause discomfort. Any advice? Regards, Dave.

I was dubious about the Gas Club also but made the effort to go along rather than not turn up just because I didn't like the sound of it. As a good friend once said to me about homosexual sex, you can't knock it until you've tried it. The Gas Club turned out to be much better than I expected with cheap beer, loads of space, no noise, centrally located and the whole of the Wickes car park available. It seems ideal for the club to meet at. Although I originally suggested the idea of a Swindon club I don't want it to be known as Dave's club, just wanted to get the idea off the ground. It might be worth thinking about a name for the club. Name suggestions on a postcard please. See you on June 2nd. Regards, Dave.

Sorry guys I've been tied up for a while. I'm easy about a suggested next meeting place. The first Tuesday of the month would make it 5th May. What do others feel about the gas works? A colleague of mine has a problem with his 300tdi defender 90 1996 where the engine immobiliser seems to have cut in and he can’t get it to turn over. It started fine first thing this morning. But doing some work he left the key in the ignition with the doors open for sometime (think over an hour). The vehicle gave 2 beeps on the horn and every since regardless of switching the alarm on and off, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting, changing the battery in the key fob. Leaving the vehicle for half an hour with the alarm on, leaving it for half an hour with the alarm off. Just no joy. The alarm warning light seems to behave fine in that it registers the key fob being present and goes out when the key is moved to position 2 fine. When the alarm is switched on it goes through it’s normal cycle of fast flashing then steadies down to slow flashing. All the electric warning lights, radio etc come on fine but trying to turn the starter over gives no joy at all, no click not anything, which suggests the immobiliser. The battery indicator is fine showing plenty of charge left in the battery and 2 hours earlier it had started first time as it usually does. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks! I had exactly the same problem pulling a horse box on the back. My rad on closer inspection was knackered and also I did not trust the temp guage. I plumped for a digital one from Mcgill Motorsports as recommended by zulublue. It was a fairly easy straight swap and includes the sender so there's no uncertainty about exactly what temperature your water is at, or whether the sender you have is correct for your gauge, and at £18 was a bargain. http://www.mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.p...mp;productId=25 I went for their voltage gauge at the same time, I just wish they did a fuel gauge to complete the set I emailed them but they said there was no plan to make a fuel gauge Regards, Dave.

On my Mini I recall getting a 2 wire buzzer with one wire on positive side of headlights after switch and one on a door sensor wire. Lights on powered one side of the buzzer, door open earthed the other end and made the circuit. They were a couple of quid from car parts shops - not sure if they're still available Dave.

IMHO, I think people get hung up on fuel economy a bit. My Defender is not as efficient as my 'family' car, but then I don't cover the same amount of miles, it was a lot cheaper to buy, and the little extra I pay for fuel far outweighs the amount of rustic pleasure I get from travelling around in the Defender. I just factor it in as the price I pay for the enjoyment. I've not done the figures but to buy a more efficient vehicle would be a lot more money and I presume it would take a lot of miles to recover the cost of the extra efficiency. Just my 2 cents, Dave.

The last rad I bought was £99 off eBay brand new. Been on for 10000 so far and no issues. Regards, Dave.
