Puma ECU, how hard can it be?

This unfortunately stalled, most likely because of some other project getting in the way. I may take another look ar it, see what has changed in the world of IDA Pro in the last 8 years (currently it's at version 8.3) -
I don't think a weld on a spring would last long tbh. This one on eBay for a Record (probably the one you have already found) looks like it would work. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174838116657 It has the following dimensions so you should be able to get an idea of the chances of it fitting before purchasing. (The spring ends as far as I can see look right too) Spring measures approx: Overall length: 83.5 mm External Spring diameter: 19 mm Internal Spring diameter: 14.2 mm Wire diameter: 2.2 mm

How broken? If it's just the end it is usually possible to heat the end of the spring till red and fashion a new end to the spring if you get what I mean. There's a lot more vice nerds over on https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/show-us-your-bench-vice-s.52872/page-434 they might have ideas as to where a replacement can be found.

Have seen a few builds online where they have used the bumpers as air tanks, not seen any failures, doesn't mean there haven't been though. -

Excellent! Would swear you went out and bought one if we hadn't seen you make it That's proper lovely to see, you were right at the start, casting your own was the right way. No, the idea is that you are supposed to spend your time doing things you enjoy! -

Shrinkage for aluminium seems to be quoted at 6%-8%, does that mean the diameter of your casting shrank by about 3/4" ? I'm sure I must have that wrong, but it would explain why the inner ring was pretty stuck. Proper impressed with your casting ...... and your crucible! -

Are you planning on pouring the aluminium directly against the steel? I've not cast aluminium since I was at school but when it cools surely it will shrink against the inner ring, whilst I don't doubt that you can cut the ring out is there a chance that the shrinkage against an 'immovable' object could crack the casting? I'm probably talking out of my backside, but perhaps the ring would be better with some kind of joint that allowed it to slip? Also is there any chance that the steel will cause the aluminium to cool too quickly and ruin your pour? Just idle thoughts which I imagine you've already thought about. -

There's a picture of the mill in one of the other threads, IIRC it's not your standard Bridgeport -

Silly question, can't you build up the sides with weld to give you more Ali so you don't have to trim the counter sink off? -

Failing fast is much better than taking months to come to the same conclusion. -
Ed, what you're doing seems to be working, keep it up, I enjoy seeing your solutions using just the stuff you have around without having to find more specialist bits 🙂

Doug wasn't on about welding it with the TIG, just cleaning the metal up with the TIG before you weld it with the spool gun. The AC will clean the oxides and the heat will boil the oils out of the castings. -

Imagine popping down to the parts counter with a damaged hose and asking for a replacement, it could take weeks to work out which one you need! 🤣 -

Sid is going to be a spritely chap with the higher revving engine AND the 1.003 transfer box Out of curiosity what is the theoretical top speed at the moment and what will it be after the surgery? Anyone know all the numbers to pop in the gearing calculator thingy?
