I don't know, the fact he is still here to tell the tales makes him quite lucky I think 😉

Someone needs to confiscate the hole saw off of him, thought the back door was bad enough 'til I realised the window above the sink was chain drilled with it too.

Well you won't get sun in your eyes! They've done wonders for the departure angle with that step.

I'd forgotten all about that Ralph.

A leak in the radiator or oil cooler could be 'fun'

This unfortunately stalled, most likely because of some other project getting in the way.Â
I may take another look ar it, see what has changed in the world of IDA Pro in the last 8 years (currently it's at version 8.3)

Hi again CwazyWabbit sorry for delay in replying and thank you for your original reply, unfortunately the springs broken in the middle. I did think about having a go at welding it but it seems the springs the week point as it is so welding it might only work for a short term.
Also thanks daveturnbull but I've already been intouch with Vice Works and unfortunately they couldn't help.Â
I have however been trawling tinternet and found a Record vice QR spring that I think I might be able to make work.
I don't think a weld on a spring would last long tbh.
This one on eBay for a Record (probably the one you have already found) looks like it would work. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174838116657
It has the following dimensions so you should be able to get an idea of the chances of it fitting before purchasing. (The spring ends as far as I can see look right too)
Spring measures approx:Overall length: 83.5 mmExternal Spring diameter: 19 mmInternal Spring diameter: 14.2 mmWire diameter: 2.2 mm -

Hi this is a message or question/advice for/from CwazyWabbit. Reading through all these question and answers on hear I think you might be the right person to ask, I'm having a go at resurrecting a No38 model J Samsonia vise. It's not had the roughest of lives so it's sort of worth doing except the QR springs broken, do you know of where I could get another one please ?
How broken? If it's just the end it is usually possible to heat the end of the spring till red and fashion a new end to the spring if you get what I mean. There's a lot more vice nerds over on https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/show-us-your-bench-vice-s.52872/page-434 they might have ideas as to where a replacement can be found.

That's just lovely! I've always had a soft spot for the 6X6 Scammels with their walking beam tandem.
Didn't Bill Van Snorkle have a similar 6X6 back in the day, based on a Series and also with walking beams?
He did indeedÂ

Have seen a few builds online where they have used the bumpers as air tanks, not seen any failures, doesn't mean there haven't been though.Â

Excellent! Would swear you went out and bought one if we hadn't seen you make it  That's proper lovely to see, you were right at the start, casting your own was the right way.

Shrinkage for aluminium seems to be quoted at 6%-8%, does that mean the diameter of your casting shrank by about 3/4" ? I'm sure I must have that wrong, but it would explain why the inner ring was pretty stuck.
Proper impressed with your casting  ...... and your crucible! Â- 1

Are you planning on pouring the aluminium directly against the steel?Â
I've not cast aluminium since I was at school but when it cools surely it will shrink against the inner ring, whilst I don't doubt that you can cut the ring out is there a chance that the shrinkage against an 'immovable' object could crack the casting?
I'm probably talking out of my backside, but perhaps the ring would be better with some kind of joint that allowed it to slip?
Also is there any chance that the steel will cause the aluminium to cool too quickly and ruin your pour?
Just idle thoughts which I imagine you've already thought about.

the one we have when new was stupidly expensive
what capacity has your mill width wise and is it worth doing half a dozen adapters whilst you are set upÂ
There's a picture of the mill in one of the other threads, IIRC it's not your standard Bridgeport

Silly question, can't you build up the sides with weld to give you more Ali so you don't have to trim the counter sink off?
