  1. Thanks for the advice guys, I have decided to leave it for now.
  2. Hi, I have a 1988 classic and I have been offered an LT95 gearbox to stick in it. I was wondering if you thought that this would be an "upgrade" over the ZF 4HP22 auto I have now. There's nothing wrong with my box at the minute but I was abit put off by the auto when I bought it and said I would change it out but now I'm kind of used to driving it .
  3. I found the problem the linkage had sheared off and was flapping around in thin air. I couldn't see it from underneath but when I removed the transmission tunnel cover I could see and managed to get it out and weld it back together. Easy fix :D
  4. Well I just took the cover off the bottom of the TC and it is indeed stuck in neutral! Moving the selector lever does not move the hi/low selector sleeve on the hi/low hub so there is something wrong in the linkages somwhere. Balls!
  5. I just had a look under the car and everything that I can see that should be moving is moving when the selector lever is moved.
  6. Do you have to remove the transfer box to get to it?
  7. Hi, I have been having problems with my transfer case jumping out of low range diff lock. I tried to engage low range yesterday and when I moved the lever forward was unable to engage it. There were no unusual noises etc but it didn't really feel like there was anything there. I tried to put it back into hi range and again nothing. Now the transfer case won't engage hi or low range and will not engage difflock. It basically feels like is stuck in neutral although I can move the selector shaft to any position it just springs back to neutral. Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem could be? Many thanks, Ian
  8. Hi, I went out offroading yesterdsy and the old girl was not too keen on going into low range. No problem moving the lever but there were some crunching noises when trying to engage low range and diff lock. Once into gear it kept jumping out and I had to hold the lever over for a while for it to stay in. It's a 1988 with the LT230 transfer case and a ZF4HP22 automatic box which was in neutral and the vehicle was stationary. Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem could be?
  9. A repaint is definitely on the cards for mine! Paint was a horrible colour to start with (Cassis Red) and it's it badly faded now especially the bonnet. New Zealand sun taking it's toll. The rest of the car though is in top condition no rust anywhere. My mate just bought one that has been imported from the UK. Shiny paint job but underneath is a disaster. Everyone keeps saying how it is in such better condition than mine. Amazing....... I'll paint mine and show those fools!!
  10. That's NICE!! :D Got any more pics?
  11. Looks like a very frustrating project but I'm sure once it's in your Landy and propelling you through some deep thick mud you will have a smile on your face the size of slice of melon :D
  12. Yeah I have read a few good things about the KL71's also. The bighorns seem to get good reviews as well. I have a 1988 classic and they will be just going on the standard vogue alloys for now.
  13. Thanks for the pics guys, I think they look OK. I'm leaning towards some Maxxis Bighorn MT762's at the minute. Or possibly Kumho KL71's.
  14. HI does anyone have pics of a RRC running 235/85 R16 tyres they could post up for me. I'm thinking of getting this size but am worried they will look too skinny
  15. OK well I've just about made my mind up to go with either a 235/85 R16 or a 265/75 R16 tyre and a 2" body lift. Another thing I need to know though is how long the bolts need to be for the body mounts? Obviously 50mm longer than the originals but being on a floating prison in the Gulf of Mexico I can't measure the old ones and have access to a store full of shiny new ones.....
  16. I have never broken a axle! I just meant that I thought 32" was a good compromise between getting some more diff clearance and fitting 35" tyres on standard RR 10 spline axles....
  17. Yeah I have made up some lift blocks at 50mm so that should be ok. I missed out on the Simex tyres as they were sold by the time I got home But I'm going to get some new tyres next week. I would like to get 32" tyres as I really need some extra ground clearance under the diffs and I think this is a decent compromise in diff clearance and being so big I snap an axle every time I go out. I am really struggling to decide on what tyres to buy but most of the tyres in a 32" size that are in my price range are 11.5" wide (although they aren't really this wide if you look at the published dimensions), I have been looking into getting -'ve offset wheels but the only ones I can find for sale down in NZ are +12 offset. The Vogue alloys I have on just now are +33 offset and the wheel size is 225-75 R16 which is just short of 9". So if I'm moving the wheel 21 mm further away from the hub and the tyre is 2" wider (50.8mm) it will be roughly 26mm closer to the inner wheel arch. Take away the new wheel offset and they will only be 5mm closer to the inner wheel arch so I'm thinking hopefully I won't loose too much steering lock as I don't think I want that. (if any of that makes any sense at all.... ). Any way back to my last question, I was going to make an extender out of some stainless bar so if anyone could measure that thread for me it would be great....
  18. Still planning on doing this body lift but I'm back at sea now and can't measure anything on my truck. I'm going to make an extension for the transfer case gear lever, can anyone tell me the thread size that the gear lever knob screws onto?
  19. I think that's the coolest thing I've ever seen..... EVER!
  20. I'll check the odometer against the one in my other car but I'm sure its working correctly. Are you able to change just the speedo head or will I need to get the entire instrument cluster?
  21. Yeah I checked that and as far as I can tell it's fully engaged with he drive
  22. Yeah there was a rattling noise but it went away when I replaced the right angle drive now it just doesn't work..... :(
  23. I am having trouble with my speedometer, it works up to about 30kph then goes kaput. There was a rattling noise coming from behind it so I assumed it was the right angle drive so I replaced it but the speedo is still the same although the noise has gone. The odometer is working fine so I'm assuming the cable is ok. Any one got any ideas?????
  24. You clearly do have too musch time on your hands but I'm glad cause that made me Laugh! :D :D
