  1. Massive thanks guys. I may of got the wrong end of the stick ( has happened before ) ....looks like I don't need to worry about the hawkeye
  2. I have been looking online ref the hawkeye system.i watched a video available on you tube , and it says that you scan the vehicle and it gives you a error code which you need to look up online....is this correct? I want a system that gives me the faults there and then. Sorry for not explaining clearly
  3. Still thinking about these systems. I was almost there in making my choice of the hawkeye until I found out all the codes are stored online and not in the system which is a bit of a downer if you have no net coverage . Can this be true? I'm back the nanocom or the lynx system.
  4. Thanks for the plier tip....will remember that one
  5. Thanks for the info ...I've been doing some homework and I like the look of the nanocom and hawkeye systems , but I keep coming back to the britpart lynx system. Has anyone gone this route ?
  6. Thanks....not heard of the nanocom ...think it's time for a google search on that . I think I really need the ability to self diagnose the disco, well at least until I have her up together
  7. hi all. ive just bought myself a td5 1999 discovery. i have the 3 ameigos up and need to work out whats causing it...im thinking its a possible wheel bearing issue...my lights are sometimes off , and come on when cornering or the odd bump. kind of random. so i am considering buying a code reader but dont want to spend an absalute fortune so looking for advice on a good unit for finding fault codes,......
  8. thanks....i fear you are right...infact before i even try i know your right ...... looks like i may need to fit an after market kit soon
  9. thanks guys....i have a fob coming from a mate to try....got to be worth a try ..... ....nothing ventured i suppose.
  10. hi all. this being my first classic ( after disco's and defenders ) im unsure if all classics should have a fob for using central locking. my classice is a 5 door H reg. it does have central locking on the key but didnt come with a fob.... is there a way of checking?
  11. massive thanks guys.... think a call to ashcrofts may be in order. having been browsing through the forum i reakon i will do a filter change anyway, cant hurt can it. by the looks of it , it has not been done in a while. i can see it has had an oil change but looks like nothing else has been touched. EDIT just been browsing the ashcrofts website and found this When I start my Automatic Range Rover in the mornings it takes a while to engage drive, it has not always done this. This has become worse in the cold weather. Why? It sounds like you need to change the filter! In the cold weather, i.e when the oil is cold and more viscous, if the filter is partially blocked it will take some time for the pump to draw oil through it. Once the oil becomes warm it flows more freely and can pass through the filter more easily. Hence the problem only occurs when the oil is cold. To remedy this problem your filter needs to be changed. This should be done sooner rather later to reduce the possibility of damage to the autobox, by the clutches 'slipping' during this slow engagement.
  12. thanks for the reply mate....... yeah i have checked the level and all seems fine.
  13. morning all. i have just bought a 91 classic 3.9 auto and love it to bits already., i bought it to replace my rusting discovery as its just gone too far now. anyway i ran a search and came up empty handed. my auto box has an issue which i dont understand to be honest. here goes in the morning after first start you can engage D or any other gear and nothing happens., you have to leave it there for a good few mins and eventully you will get the clunk to give you drive. .....that very first start of the day will only give you 1st gear aswell for a while unless you sit and wait for quite some time. after its moved up the box the first time it seems fine for the rest of the day. unless you stop for more than 20 mins with the engine turned off. then you have to put it in drive and wait all over again. does anyone have any idea's..... it seems the last owner changed the oil as its spotless.
  14. hi all. i am looking for a little advice,.the wifes freelander 2 has started to whine quite loud from the rear end. i thought it was a wheel bearing but on jacking it up there is no play in them and they feel smooth. i could hear the rear diff sounded a bit grumbly while spinning the wheels.... does anyone know if there is a rebuid kit available for the diffs or a company that does it yet. i have searched hard but no joy.
  15. well the plot thickens. i went out this morning and it started and ran fine. the only thing different was the drivers side was parked up on the curb. so the fuel pipes were slightly higher than normal. i have checked all unions today and all seem ok. so gonna look at sedimenter next! thanks for the advice so far......all helping
  16. thanks Darren....i will investigate that tomorrow. its a pain in the butt having the issue in the mornings....
  17. cool....so i am thinking along the right lines.... is there places on the fuel system i should look.... comen disco leaking points...
  18. hi all. im hoping someone can offer a little advice. i have done a search and come up with tonnes of info which points me in all sorts of directions so need to confirm its what i think it is really. ok here is the issue.....its a 300 tdi if i leave the disco overnight it will fire straigh up in the morning using the glowplugs.,.. it will run for 30 secs or so and then cut out. its then a case of keep turning the engine over with teh starter until it fires up again ....which can take a while. im assuimng the diesel is flowing back to the tank when left over night. after its running fine it will start all day with no issues.... there is no lack in power and no smoke. where are the places i should check on the fuel system ( idiots guide needed ) as its doing my head in now ... thanks in advance
  19. is that a propshaft i see behing that nice strong mesh..... right where your plums would be
  20. i can see a call happening soon
  21. ok so now i am nearing the point where i know which one to go for..... i have narrowed it down to the 2 options now. its either a KAM locker.... just means more saving required and a longer wait or a trutrac which is a fit and forget lsd but know it can be used to great affect. so maybe its time to start banging my head against the wall in the persuit of knowing the best course of action......will the wife kill me or not
  22. it seems i have alot to consider now then. i have started looking at the prices and that maybe the deciding factor for me to be honest. i had not considered a trutrak but will now have to add it to the list. now i do like the look of the arb and the kam but i am afraid they are well out of my price range at the moment. i want to fit one in the rear axle to keep me pushing along. i tend to run at slow speeds and think it would aid me when that wheel wants to lift and stop me dead. so it looks like a detroit or tru trac
  23. hi all..... well i am not at the start of the process of looking for a diff locker. i am looking for veiws on what to go for to be honest, the pro's and cons. i have had a look at the detroit type and like the idea of the no thought process of it. i am looking to do it as cheaply as possible too. so any advice would be very welcome from YOU in the know
  24. just come back from liverpool after visiting family this weekend. when i got home i noticed the drivers side footwell was really wet....a puddle. it was rain water i think as it had no taste. ... we did have some rain while there this weekend.... does anyone know if there are any known issues with the freelander 2 leaking water from somewhere?
  25. massive thanks mate...it has been confussing me for a couple of days since picking it up .....
