  1. Thank you to both of you for the advice. I will keep it as is.
  2. Hi all, I have the option to replace my perfectly good but old gearbox at not much cost for a Disco box from a 97'. My interest in it is that I'm told I will receive a significant increase in my speed, less noise because I won't be pressuring the engine as much and less gear changes. Jamaica is mountainous on my side of the country with narrow tight turns. It's a workout just to drive much less be holding my cell phone to my ear and discussing business as I push on. I have lots of traffic on my daily routes and I'm tired of not being able to achieve 120km when I am occasionally on the highway in it. If I could find enough places to use lockers and winches I wouldn't be interested but the fact is that the gear I'm running with now is enough for plenty of fun. I have a 200tdi from a Disco , LT77, snorkel, underbody protection, ironman 2" shocks and springs, removal of roof and a couple other things. Only been stuck once and I'm not looking to put it on its side anytime soon! What do you suggest seeing as this is my daily driver and I go off road maybe twice a month but never do anything too serious? Thanks Bruce P.S. I would kindly prefer some answers from persons who personally have experienced the difference between the boxes and could maybe give an idea of what it feels like.
  3. LOL. Still here. A 28 tooth input gear from the link above is supposed to fit in my vehicle as a freind of mine has 1 working in his and it made a considerable increase in his top speed. I know I'm not gonna be going 100+mph but if I can get 25km more: ). I would like to be able know that I can do 110km fairly without my foot completely on the floor. I get good power from my 200 compared to others even with the burning and with others who have the same setup as me and a bigger turbo. I have a a squeeze more top speed about 13km and a quicker move off currently.
  4. I am in a rush and will have to return to read this all so my last reply was after I barely glanced at what was posted but its more top speed I'm looking for.
  5. I have the Defender gear box and tranfre case that came with the 2.5 diesel I got with it. They needed work. I still need rings but I was jumping ahead with what I didn't know already. I'm fixing that also but can I still get what I need with t the defender gear box and tranfer case?
  6. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_28.html I think this is my answer. If you have any other suggestions of what I should do to max my build let me know. Maybe electric fans to keep cool in Jamaica or what about a port and polish for more power? I'm not a mechanic but I have a great one. respec
  7. Hello Land Rover Bible : ) I rebuilt my 91' disco 200tdi in my 89' 90 sometime last year and I need rings already. Due to the BS advice from a parts supplier in the UK I bought so many parts from them which were not Genuine and of course now I'm burning oil like crazy and about to be even poorer. Anyhow let me get to the point. I have spent alot of money with the whole rebuild of the car and having to import so much with a 50% duty charge on top of everything makes it hurt even more. The last thing I am now forced to due is rebuild the gear box and transfer case. The only thing I know to do is get a 28 tooth main output gear from a 96' and up disco TO GET MORE SPEED "which is the whole point of this rant". I want the most out of my car now so I dont make a mistake and here about something else after I've fitted up and end up dissapointed. PLEASE HELP! No turbo, air filter or fuel pump advice please. Thats already been done. except for the larger turbo which I'm not doing. Thank you. Bruce I love my vehicle by the way and don't mind the rebuilds but at what quality?
  8. Not too shaby and thanks but looking for 16's. BfGoodrich makes a new size to the mudterrain and thats what I would love. With my current tires the 295/75 wasn't available in mud. http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfg/resultsComparator.do
  9. Yes is the answer to all the questions. The wheels I absolutely love and don't regret at all but the tires are what I found to be damn expensive.
  10. Hello. I would like to know if anyone is running those size tires on a defender with a 2" lift? Or 305/70/16? My opinion is that 295/75/16 look much better than the 285/75/16 and I dont even want to say it rubs because its only at a full FULL lock. It's not a problem at all really. Thank you Bruce Kingston Jamaica W.I. Heres mine in the parking lot over this weekend gone. l would want to keep the body as you see it. Sorry about the huge size of the pic.
  11. Theres alot of videos o the internet. Heres some edutainment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcKpIB1HYKM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaaFsWNqLPI...ted&search=
  12. He will have more than enough oil to fuel my car. Anybody know what I should do?
  13. I told him the engine power, dif box ratio's and the strength of the parts. We were thinking that independent suspension would be best for traction as all the wheels could contour the terrain better? What makes my 90 grip so well? Educate this fool oh wise 1's!
  14. My experience has been this. If you want to build or restore a car and you can't get parts easily don't bother. You'll never get back your money. Also i've noticed that defender owners sorry most landrover owners excluding the damn freelander carp beleive that there cars once properly maintained are unstoppable and therefore the cars get hearts. If there are people driving landrovers where u are and I would imagine those people would be farmers they would understand that but most people would just get a hilux. I get that too but I would never get rid of my 90. I absolutely loved it even with its faults. Its crazy that with all the stuff thats possible nowadya in 2007 they still make a car that will start to rust within 11 months of it being new. But it continues to sell mostly unchanged after all these years. Its because people love there land rovers.I think it would be difficult to sell at a good price also.
  15. Thats in the parish of st.thomas on the flat. we drove up the river to that point and then went around it. The blue mountains are spread through more than 1 parish but that water does not come from it actually.
  16. What is the normal exhaust gas temp. for a 200TDi?
  17. I saw that post already and it still doesn't help me. Theres no threading for any nuts and bolts except the middle spring on mine.
  18. I saw that post already and it still doesn't help me. Theres no threading for any nuts and bolts except the middle spring on mine. Whoops . wrong post! Ignore this. Sorry
  19. I was curious if theres an increase in performance that you can feel if i were to stick the exhaust out the body to the side of the rf like i see some competition rigs do? I've seen em on devon4x4's ride.
  20. I bought a new one for my 90 and it has no places to screw in any bolts or latches, except for the spring. Could someone tell me how to attach the bolts and the latch please? Much appreciated.
