  1. Well, no joy from any scrappies within sensible distance, so cam returned and new one expected tomorrow morning now ...... hopefully I can finally start to put this thing back together

Well, what a day Went to fit the (brand) new cam, just to find that the pulley bolt thread is different to the bolts I have ..... and in fact doesn't look good at all (looks like metric fine rather than course, and has been "flattened" somehow), so will have to go back tomorrow Going to see if any of the local scrappies have a motor in I can get the pulley, cam and skew gear from as a matched set...... Spent the day cleaning all the various gasket faces instead - that took a fair bit longer than expected, especially having to be carefull around the front, but once the bottom of the block was clean I covered the open front of the sump with some gaffa tape and wrapped the cam thrust washer in tape too, which made that end easier

  4. Yes, the oil pump/vacuum pump drive gear. I got a (very) good deal on a new cam, but the bst price i've seen for the skew gear is £130+ ...... pretty much doubling the cost of the othr parts ..... and I'm trying to be economical with the rebuild. If I had the luxury of time on my side (I need the thing for daily transport) I'd try and find a decent matched secondhand pair...
  5. Just a quick question ....... The pulley has dropped off the end of the camshaft on my 200tdi Reading through the good old Haynes manual, it says that if I replace the camshaft, I also have to replace the skew drive gear - is this really true?

  7. Got to admit, my first winter with the (17yr old) Disco, and what a winter to have bought one for The smile hasn't left my face, and I keep finding excuses to go out

I run 265/75/16 MT's on 7x16 modulars on my 200tdi, and they fill the standard arches nicely, possibly projecting about half an inch. 285's will only be marginally wider ....... but 30mm spacers on either will mean they fill the extended arches. My rear arches are stock, but the bottom of the rear panel has been cut away - even so, with the 265's fitted, during axle articulation my tyres still catch on the bodywork, meaning I need to enlarge the arches a little to prevent damaging the tyres, fitting taller tyres (285's or more ... ) will only exacerbate the problem
