Well, what a day
Went to fit the (brand) new cam, just to find that the pulley bolt thread is different to the bolts I have ..... and in fact doesn't look good at all (looks like metric fine rather than course, and has been "flattened" somehow), so will have to go back tomorrow
Going to see if any of the local scrappies have a motor in I can get the pulley, cam and skew gear from as a matched set......
Spent the day cleaning all the various gasket faces instead - that took a fair bit longer than expected, especially having to be carefull around the front, but once the bottom of the block was clean I covered the open front of the sump with some gaffa tape and wrapped the cam thrust washer in tape too, which made that end easier
