  1. Does anybody know if a transfer box off a 1987 defender,with a lt77 box, will fit straight on a r380 circa 1999 out of a disco
  2. Job sorted - so much for the megasquirt community - thank you to all that offered information
  3. Yes I would like to see a MS2 with Edis ignition map for a 3,9 serpentine -Please
  4. Nig what do you mean -YES iv got total brain fade or yes youve got an ignition map
  5. Has anybody got a standard 3.9 serpentine ignition map -just to confirm i.v not got total brain fade !
  6. yes ms2 for fuel and edis for ignition- the map readings obviously jump up the fuel and ignition tables quickly because of the load with the caravan on thats why i was thinking of reducing/damping the vacuum. The interesting thing is is if you keep the throttle open and the revs drop to 1400 -say pulling up a hill -the noise stops -the ignition advance is about 15deg
  7. Sorry perhaps I should have have said -Its ms2 with edis and everything looks fine on the laptop-fuel etc
  8. This is along the lines i was thinking but it doesnt do it when the caravan is not hitched up and its doing about 20mpg and the exhaust is dark grey and the plugs are spot on.It just seems to be linked to load.Did I read somewhere that sometimes the map vacuum has to be retricted by putting a filter in the line?
  9. Got fed up with camping at weekend events so decided to get a caravan -must be something to do with my age -need the comforts of home.! So hitched it up and went off for a run Accellerating thro the gears noticed a weird crackle cum soft knock under load from the exhaust.between 1000 and 2000 rpm and the engine sounded harsh .Thougt perhaps it was a bit too advanced under extreme load so retarted it .This reduced it but didnt stop it and I was down to 18deg advance at 2000 rpm. So decided to stick the dissy back in a try it- no problem.noise gone. So what is it with edis
  10. Does anybody know if its possible to change the transfer box ratio from 1.211 to 1.41 without removing the box from the vehicle? Des
  11. this problem has only surfaced since changing from the 5ltr to the 3.9-the 5tr would pull in 5th up to 100mph plus- The gearbox is a r380 that was fitted to police range rovers and the transfer box is 1.211. I think what i might do is stick 1.41 ratio gears in the tranfer box and see if that helps it or fit a supercharger ! . Can the transfer box ratios be changed without taking the box out? Des
  12. I am begining to think this is down to gearing-i,m running a range rover 4.6 r380 box and transferbox and at to mo running 33 inch dia tyres If I keep it in 4th gear now it will rev to 5k-drop it in 5th and it wont pull-it is also using £30 of petrol in 46 miles! these are the settings req fuel 19.9 9.95ms 4sqirts VE 71 71 73 73 75 77 78 79 83 85 89 92 96 97 97 97 68 68 70 70 72 74 75 76 79 80 86 88 93 94 94 94 66 66 66 68 7073 74 76 78 80 85 90 93 93 93 93 63 63 63 64 69 72 73 74 77 79 85 87 90 90 90 90 58 60 60 62 66 66 68 68 71 72 83 86 88 89 89 89 54 54 55 55 60 61 61 62 66 68 74 79 82 83 83 83 48 49 50 50 52 54 55 57 58 64 72 72 78 78 78 78 47 48 48 49 50 51 53 55 60 63 69 69 74 74 74 74 43 44 44 45 46 48 49 53 54 60 66 67 73 74 74 74 37 41 43 44 45 47 48 51 53 57 63 67 72 74 74 74 35 35 43 44 45 46 48 50 52 55 63 67 70 72 73 73 34 34 36 40 42 43 43 43 48 54 60 60 69 70 70 70 33 33 29 34 35 36 36 41 41 44 48 52 57 60 65 67 33 33 28 27 28 30 30 37 38 43 49 51 57 59 61 65 32 32 32 28 27 24 28 33 35 39 44 46 50 50 50 50 33 33 36 37 35 29 34 36 35 37 40 47 49 49 49 50 SPARK ADV 12 18 24 27 31 34 35 36 36 36 34 34 12 18 23 24 28 31 32 32 33 34 34 34 13 18 24 24 29 32 33 33 35 36 36 36 11 14 21 21 26 28 29 31 35 35 37 37 11 16 21 23 25 28 30 30 34 34 36 36 11 13 18 20 21 28 30 30 34 34 36 36 8 11 14 18 22 29 30 35 35 37 37 38 7 11 14 18 23 29 31 35 36 38 38 38 7 10 15 19 23 29 31 36 36 38 38 38 7 10 14 18 23 30 32 36 36 38 38 38 9 11 14 18 23 30 32 36 36 38 38 38 9 10 14 18 24 30 32 36 36 38 38 38 AFR 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 11.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 14.7 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 The map reading goes from 0 to 100 go through the gears,and it goes well, to any revs -3k to 5k and then put it in 5th- wont pull-map is reading 100- tps is reading anything from 50 to 100 with no change in revs
  13. another thing to think about- the induction tract from air entering the snorkel to the plenum is about 8 ft ! with a 80mm pipe- would that affect it ????
  14. It,s a pity you guys are down south-we could have a barbie and beer festival and sort this out !! Des
  15. Ok that is the way my thinking is going and why i was asking nige what bore snorkel he had ended up with-so fit bigger bore snorkel and then retune wot ve ???
  16. well thats what i think-i'm going to turn the "scoop intake" round to face backward
  17. So what bore snorkel did you end up with Nige?
  18. Funny you sould say that the reading on the ve table will get to wot with just half throtle- Iv been wondering about that- is it something to do with this snorkle???
  19. Fixed ! I think it is something to with having a safari snorkel on- at low speeds it has no effect but at high speeds it rams air in and weakens the fuel - - I disconnected it from the air filter housing and the prob disappeared- so richened up the wot ve and that seems to have sorted it- it just means that at lower speeds its really is rich at wot
  20. wideband lambda fitted
  21. Checked it with a timing light against the pulley marks that i know are spot on
  22. ok will log it tonite on the way home and have a bash at emailing it to you tomorrow-changed the req fuel and it ran harsh even after knocking down the ve table on idle
  23. I'v got tps gauge showing and all seems to be ok

  25. I have reset all the sensors twice now-doesnt seem to be a problem with them- I,m running the injection system off the 5.0lre ie 4.6 system but i dont think theres any difference to a 3.9 apart from a larger plenum and the later idle valve
