  1. Many thanks Les. I removed the rocker assembly today and have lifted out each of the push rods and all seem straight. From what you are saying I can now go ahead with setting up the timing. I can then get back to doing the job I started which was to replace the water gallery gasket. I still got to get the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets off, which at the moment are not keen to come off.
  2. Many thanks to everyone who responded. I did feel some resistance which I'm sure was just air compression but then it did get difficult to turn. I'm just hoping I've not done any damage. Will take off rocker cover at the weekend and examine things further. We live and learn!
  3. Many thanks guys. It'll probably be the weekend before I get back to it again.
  4. I had difficulty removing the camshaft sprocket bolt, having not loosened it before removing the timing belt , so whilst trying to loosen it the camshaft turned. I then replaced the crankshaft/damper bolt and turned the crankshaft to try and get the camshaft sprocket back into sync having fitted the timing belt again. Now I fear that the camshaft and crankshaft are both out of sync.
  5. Hi guys I think I've been a silly boy! Whilst attempting to replace the water gallery gasket, because of a coolant leak, I have managed to turn both the camshaft and crankshaft with the timing belt off. How do I now set the timing up again? You've probably guessed I'm a beginner at this. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I should have mentioned, this is on a 200tdi defender.
  6. I recently saw a Discovery 2, 52 plate, maroon in colour with a two tone grey checkered pattern on the doors above the sills. Can anyone tell me which model this is?
  7. Thanks guys, looks like I'm going to have to get saving. This brings back memories of a comment a neighbour of mine made when I told him I was getting a Land Rover. 'I hope you've got deep pockets' he said. Anyway Christmas is not too far away.
  8. You're right, that should have read 245/75R16. Typing was never one of my greatest skills. However I would appreciate your thoughts on the other issues.
  9. It's another tyre thread folks. I bought a Defender 90 about 12 months ago which is shod with 245/85R16 BFG All Terrains on the front and BFG Mud Terrains on the rear plus a Mud Terrain spare. Unsure whether these were the correct tyre sizes I have looked at one or two other Defenders and they have all been shod with 235s. There is damage to the wal of the spare and also the N/S/F. The predicament I have is do I stick with the 245s or do I go with 235s. Eventually I would like to have all terrains all round. However if I replace the two front tyres with all terrains and put the good O/S/F as a spare will I have a problem if I have a flat on the rear and then end up with a mud terrain and an all terrain on the rear axle. I should also mention that the wheels are aftermarket 16x7s.
  10. Many thanks Western. If the weather improves tomorrow I shall crawl back under it and get this flange off.
  11. Because of a worn UJ and a damaged yoke I have had to replace the front propshaft on my defender 90 200Tdi. Unfortunately a previous owner has unsucessfully tried to split one of the nuts at the transfer box end with a chisel and has hacked half of the bolt off. Is it possible to remove the flange to replace the bolts without oil coming out of the transfer box? Also is the flange nut easy to remove or is it well torqued on?
  12. Many thanks for the info. I will try and source some of that colour.
  13. I have just recently purchased my first Land Rover, a 1993 Defender 90 hard top 200Tdi. It started life as a grey vehicle with a cream hard top but has within the last 12 months been resprayed green. For some reason the cream top was not resprayed and I am trying to ascertain what the colour is and where to source the paint to respray it. I was planning just to use cans. It is fitted with BF Goodrich all terrains on the front and mud terrains on the rear. Is there a problem with having different tyres on the vehicle? I am also looking for a rear door stay if anyone can help me with an online supplier.
