  1. Hi, I phoned my local Landrover dealer, gave them my reg number, and the Service receptionist gave me the code! Havn`t tried it yet though, `cause I didn`t get round to doing the job I needed it for. Ray.
  2. Good idea, I think I`ll do similar when I get chance. We have a sloping drive, so if I put the car on ramps at the front, it is level for oil changes. Bet you`re jealous now!
  3. Magnatec isn't the correct stuff for a TD4 as it isn't the correct spec, it isn't going to cause immediate failure of anything but it isn't the spec quoted by LR or recomended by Castrol. If sticking with Castrol (and I do) then Edge (in the gold container) is the correct stuff to use in the TD4, £27/4L at Costco but well over £40 at the likes of Halfords. According to the Castrol web site, which I checked before buying, 5W 30 Magnatec is the alternative recomendation for the car. Ray.
  4. I am very pleased you didn`t have any trouble doing your first oil change! Perhaps I was being a bit too cautious,I just couldn`t believe that they didn`t make just the plastic tray removeable instead of the ally casting as well. If I had had the time, I would have tried to replace the rivets with some sort of screw fixings so I could leave the casting in place. Re the oil, I used Castrol Magnatec, 5W 30. B&Q had some on offer for just under £20 for 4L. Halfords wanted about £44! I just need to get a socket for next time, or indeed, a tube spanner, if one is available in that size. Ray.
  5. Just changed the oil on my `04 TD4. What a hastle, getting the undertray off. Once I finally managed to translate the instructions in Haynes, and realised I couldn`t just take the plastic tray off! Anyway, got it done, but couldn`t remove the filter cover. Looks like I will need a 36mm socket or tube spanner. My question is, as I have re filled the engine, when the car is switched off for a while, does the filter canister drain of oil, with it being above the sump? If so, there will be no problem changing the filter later, when I have the right tool. (No doubt Land Rover do a "Special Tool" for the job!) Ray.
  6. Hi all, after stupidly reversing onto a short wooden post, I need another drivers door for my `04 5 door td4 se. There seem to be very few `04 on doors available, but plenty of `98 - `03 ones. My question is, will the earlier door fit the `04 0n cars? If so, will my door card and trim etc fit the door? And finally, is anyone breaking a freelander and have a door for sale?
  7. Hi Dave, according to my handbook for my `04 TD4, there is a small Suplimentary fuse box in the engine bay, towards the back right looking at the front of the car. It`s a small squarish black box with 3 fuses in. No 1 - LH front screen; No 2 - RH front screen; And No 3 - switch illumination. There`s a large `L` shaped box on the right, with a small square unit on the side, between the the 2 pairs of hoses. The fuse box is on the side of that. Good luck, Ray.
  8. Won`t that mean it`s on all the time? could affect fuel consumption. Maybe it could be connected to a switch, to turn off when coolant warms through? Ray.
  9. So it heats up the engine? I thought it somehow put heat into the car until the engine got up to temp. This is the bit of info I wanted to answer my questions. Crikey, that TD4 IS cold blooded! Every other car I had was putting warm air in the car inside 1 mile! Mind you, I havn`t owned a diesel before. I just swapped my Jaguar XJ6 3.2 in for my landie about 3 weeks ago, just in time, and that thing had heat before I had done 1/2 mile. That "big cold block of metal" also kicks out a lot of heat. About the only things I miss about the Landie is acceleration, especially when cold, (Er, should I go now? could you please confirm the last throttle position please!), and the above lack of heat. Otherwise I love it, and I got a newer car for the same price as an older Disco, which is what I was going to get. Ray.
  10. As a follow up to my last post, I do have a fuel heater fitted, I can hear it working, especially after switching off. However, I don`t get any early heat in the car, just normal heat when the engine warms up, 3 - 4 miles. When I was clearing snow from drive, I had car running and felt at the heater exhaust under bumber. Warm air was coming out, but no smoke/steam. It appears to me the heater is coming on, but not putting any heat into the car, which is a waste of time, and fuel, if indeed it is burning any! Any comments? How long should it take to get warm air into the car from the FBH? Ray.
  11. Hi all, another newbie here. As an aside to the discussion on the pre heater, I have just bought a `54 plate Td4 200 SE and so far, including the last couple of days at 0-1 deg. temps, I reckon my pre heater isn`t working. In fact it takes about 4 miles or so before any heat starts making itself felt. Where should I look to A; make sure I`ve got one fitted, and B; look for a fault. Could it be the temp sensor not working? Evidently they brought out a new one with different parameters, which was green. Where is this fitted? Thanks in advance for any info, and it`s nice to be accepted as a Land Rover owner, even though the Freebie is looked down on by "real" Landie owners! Ray.
