  1. does anyone know the guys who run amazon by any chance? looks like i wont be at kirton at the weekend cos everyone's closed for the holidays. IT ISNT CHRISTMAS AND IT ISNT NEW YEAR!! GET BACK TO WORK
  2. tbh, i think the concept is good as it always has been, but what theyve done re: the back of the cab looks utterly terrible. not quite sure how i would do it differently, but the shaping is awful in my opinion
  3. any chance you can remember how much it cost mate? cheers jim
  4. cheers guys rimmers are ridiculously expensive, roughly 100 quid more for a new turbo than paddocks for example, and up to 3x the price amazon, may be a winner, i will contact them tomorrow, would be a second hand unit rather than recon, but may do the job this other one you speak of sound good too tony, also sounds very good. i suppose i could get one reconned as a spare depending on price do the symptoms i mention sound like a knackered turbo bearing, the squeal under load lower in rev range, very harsh loud whooshing/almost metal on metal sound at high revs? jim
  5. 17k ago it had a rebuilt back axle, new gearbox and new transfer gear. by transfer gear, im led to believe it was just the input gear. I suppose what would be handy to know is what revs peoples engines are at, 200 and 300 alike, for say 60mph in 5th gear or whatever jim
  6. desperation has set in, kirton at the weekend, was going to be going with some mates as a bit of a 21st birthday treat/outing (2nd january). I've had a problem with the disco squealing under load for a while and now when the turbo spools up it makes a wonderful grating sound so im assuming it's had it!? in order to have any chance of making it to the last play day of the year, I need to find somewhere with recon T25s on the shelf for exchange, and tomorrow, saturday at the very very latest. oh yeah, and within sensible driving distance of s****horpe area. thanks guys, save my birthday eh christmas was already a bit of a writeoff Jim
  7. just a quick one. I assume both 200 and 300tdi discoverys use the LT230 transfer box (i know theyre slightly different) and i was under the impression both were 1.2:1 is the r380's output speed for a given engine speed higher than that of the LT77 then? because i borrowed my dad's 300tdi today and engine revs for any given speed are massively lower than my 200tdi or has some goon fitted a defender transfer gear in my transfer box when it was replaced because of wear about 17000miles ago cheers jim
  8. SHOULD be fine. mine was. tbh, rovers arent bad for it at all in my experience when i used to fit radios for a living. it was those horrible vauxhall things and a lot of those french things you had to watch out for
  9. the manual refers to it as a trailer capable of being towed at 45mph does this mean it is not legal to tow it at say 60mph in the eyes of construction and use etc?
  10. well i got the timing belt done on the discovery, kept on looking for the mysterious squealing sound under load, now the turbo is making a hell of a row, i havent found the squeal and im ready to fix it with a can of petrol and a match got 3 days to fix it before kirton
  11. just beware when choosing a stereo, the more expensive brands and higher spec models often have the most wiring out the back of them. Most have an ISO extension lead on them with their own factory plug on the end too. often a JVC will have no extra leads and the iso plugs will go straight into the back of the unit. this may sound unimportant but in the 200 especially, space is at a very high premium in the stereo slot. any amount of extra wiring will make fitting a stereo a right pain in the backside. I personally have an alpine iPod unit in there, and the only way i could get it to fit was to release the centre console, fit it to that, and then refit the centre console.
  12. yep lift pump. i shall tell ye why lift pump fills filter, injection pump draws from filter bleed screw out, no fuel out top, lift pump no pumpy engine run and cut out, injection pump drains filter then sucks air qed lift pump no pumpy ps... sedimenter?? what sedimenter, think mine was bypassed about 9 years ago, in fact ive seen very few with it still in service, it rusts through and it's a pain in the proverbial!
  13. intriguing theory... surely if the pin was smaller, you could acheive advance or retardation... ive got to do my belt in the next few days, id be interested if there was truth in this and which way is which, not to mention how much advance is a good thing etc.
  14. another sankey question. looking at a 3/4tonne wide track in the case of a sankey the 3/4 tonne bit refers to the weight it can carry, not its actual weight laden correct? are they 'plated' at a particular weight? as this would cause me issues as i only have cat B licence currently, working on the +E bit
  15. they can be used but i believe the bottom line on it is that you shouldnt exceed X speed (cant remember what that speed was, probably comparable to a space saver on a eurobox) reasons being the ally nuts dont grip to the steel wheels very well, especially because they are used to sitting in a beveled hole that matches their own shape, and they are now the softer component vs the steel wheel. on the flipside, you dont use steel wheel nuts on alloy wheels, although that is usually because they are smaller and will eventually rip through the wheel itself
  16. works for going into low and high out of curiosity, why are you taking it out of high all the time. if you only use high, leave it in.
  17. tbh the blurb in the handbook for going into low box says something like put into gear 1 or 2 i think and ease up on the clutch pedal whilst applying pressure to the transfer lever, then the box lets it into range can be difficult to do without using the clutch etc ive found, but the above method works every time tried it?
  18. should point out that it's more eco friendly to buy an old diesel landrover than a brand new prius! because it's true, not just because it'd upset them
  19. im not 100% sure, perhaps mine is just very good. theyre very old skool though, in their work ethic and their actual age head gaskets can blow and not cause overheating if they dont blow out where a water gallery is (ask me how i know ), so I would certainly check. could be between cylinders or out the side/end of the block
  20. i suggest hitting the bloomin' thing with a hammer sorry, im not too much help am I I'm sure a grown up will be more useful
  21. does this setup increase front tyre wear by a large amount then Bill? It sure sounds like it would to me
  22. paddocks do a kit including everything you need bar the oil and dust seals for about 40 quid plus vat. then the seals cost a couple of quid each. i've got two to do next week. a 200 and 300
