  1. is the chip a physical soldered chip on the mainboard or is it a piggyback ecu type affair? if easily done, the first thing i would have done is remove the chip to ascertain whether it is the chip that is fubarred and causing the problems. it very well could be!
  2. really starting to hack me off how much cheaper the 15inch equivalents are to the 16 in a similar/identical diameter. trouble is, I already have a set of 16inch steels and a set of 16inch standard alloys. It makes little sense to me when theres less material being sold by them in a 16inch. didnt want to buy another set of wheels really.
  3. are there 4k's worth of things that can go wrong on a 90?
  4. i know someone who has theres a fair bit of cutting involved aparently, especially to do the indicators
  5. starting to look and sound a pretty attractive proposition these KL71s... will price some up tomorrow i think! DiscoClax, what size are you running? cheers again all jim
  6. i would almost put money on it being a single specific dry solder joint on the electric window brain behind the glove box on passenger side (assuming 300tdi series)
  7. bad earth is always the first thing i tend to blame i know you said youve checked the earth connections but if a wire from the chassis makes it turn over, then it surely isnt earthed properly
  8. i got mine today (mesh variant) and fitted it too. ordered from paddocks as a black britpart one, what came in the post was a dark grey (gunmetal kinda colour) LR genuine parts one and all for 55 quid. came with the proper instructions too although i already have them on the rave CD not mine, but the one i have
  9. yeah... trouble is, am i gonna be happy with 265s on there for 50,000 miles or so? lol or will i want bigger!? is beginning to sound like nothing else will do the job as well though lol
  10. yes they will be a lot easier. as said, still cutting reqd
  11. not those 255s on ebay is it? still a bit on the big side mind
  12. theyd go on a defender fine, theyd be a nuisance to fit on a disco for starters. youd ideally want full arch flares and a lift. could fit them with flares without a lift but not with a lift and no big style arch cutting due to the sheer size of them, they would put your speedo out a lot and be bordering on too much for the normal transfer box and stock power. most people once they have 33inch tyre height and up fit defender transfer boxes
  13. 265/75s!!! 85 is NOT the height of the tyre, it is the height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the tyre width, which is why a 235/85 and a 265/75 are the same height 265/85 will not fit on without arches being cut back a lot and flares fitted. not a bad sized tyre, just not what you really want i would say. thus a 205/80 is the same height as a 235/70 and a 235/85 is 3 inches taller hope that made sense
  14. what are the bfg's like noise-wise?
  15. well im fitting 265/75s which are as tall, but a tad wider. if you had a lift, you could get away with losing the front valance/bumper endcap modifications and a cut to the rear of the rear arch, but without i would imagaine a cut all round both arches could be advantageous. otherwise the tyres will fill the arches completely. I shall be cutting the whole arch back and fitting smallish arch flares which always look good. pretty easy to do tbh! unless you have a 5door?? just a small other point, but standard tyre sizes are 235/70s so you're down on stock sizing already if you're rolling on 225s
  16. mine's my daily drive too mate. thats why im doing the tyres bigger and cutting the arches but not changing the spring height etc as yet. I get better clearance, better off road ability, but keep the ride exactly as it is now. keeping stock 235/70R16s will look a bit odd with a lift, but with the 235 85 profiles and a lift, you're still going to be having to cut bodywork. plus standard shockers on a lift will give less droop off road and the springs will change the ride perhaps for the worse, but maybe for the better. you could also end up causing yourself problems with caster angles, prop vibration not to mention raising your COG slightly. ive no problem with lifted trucks. mine will be when i can afford it/deem it necessary. I just think a lot of people do it without thinking it through completely and then realise the can of worms has been opened.
  17. I 'think' i can still get hold of a set. would get a set of 5 anyway. trouble is, I would have the 71s in a heartbeat if they were priced the same. which means Kumho now do not have a mud terrain in line with the rest of their pricing. theyve gone to BFG prices for the kl71 and only seem to want to sell them in big sizes too. dont know what to do now!
  18. as do I but unfortunately theres no way in hell im paying 96 quid a corner for them, especially not when 35s can be had at 90 a corner!! plus im still a believer that the bfg style tread pattern offers the best of both worlds, kl71 second
  19. read what i wrote james!! i didnt write it for my own amusement gawd i dunno, some people eh i said im doing the arches. fitting indestructible arch extensions but not lifting suspension as yet
  20. yeah the insa's are retreads too, well a bit more than that, supposedly a new tyre built on the old carcass and supposedly the best about, but a retread nonetheless couple of my mates are still goin on at me that the 20 quid a corner extra for kumhos is the better option??
  21. that's what i keep telling myself. i think ive just got to get this unease out of my head. the insa's are supposedly some of the best quality retreads about and very hard wearing. just gotta weigh up if i can get them enough cheaper than the kumhos... and for that matter, if anyone runs the dakars and what theyre like on and off the road! if im honest i dont like the look of the colway MT, the pattern looks a bit untidy and savage, and ive been told theyre really noisy on road. i figure tonnes of people use BFG MTs on the road for long distance, towing etc, the closest i can get to them, the better dakar's ratings i believe to be 120Q so 99mph (more than enough) and 120 load being over 1360kg so very well rated indeed!
  22. hey guys need a bit of help choosing some new tyres. i know what i want, but i dont know which tyres can deliver it ideally a mud terrain, but only a traditional mud terrain style really (bfg mt, kumho 834, insa dakar) size: 265/75R16, could possibly go a tad bigger but doing the arches and no suspension lift, going on nicely offset 8 spokes dont want to spend a fortune, im thinking the bfg is a bit out of price range (tax dodging student with time only for a part time job) which kinda brings it down to the kumho or the insa (or any other suggestions) but i dont know if i fancy a retread?? it kinda just sounds like bad news to me!? oh yeah, and have to be bearable on the road volume-wise, and do a good mileage for the price. i know im not asking much discuss jim
