    V8 dizzy cap

    Cheers Nige, that's what I'd hoped :-)
  2. I've done an awful lot of reading, and I'm still confused. I know (from previous RRC ownership) that I need to use a genuine dizzy cap on my 3.9 Disco V8, but are all 'Lucas' branded dizzy caps and rotor arms considered OE? I'm having idle problems (the car, not me...!) and as it's been stood for 3 years, I'm going to do the basics first.... Ta!
  3. If you've got the budget, you can *never* go too far with engine modifications...
  4. Thanks for all the input and recommendations - like yourselves, I'm highly sceptical of the Britpart cams and I probably will avoid them. However, I'd still like to hear if anyone out there has actually used one! On the other hand, if I do decide to get one, I'll get the micrometer out and measure it up to see how it compares! Anyone had any problems returning Britpart stuff if it's not up to scratch, provding that it's unused? As the 'budget' Turner Engineering cam they advertise is only £60+vat (the Kent H180 is £204 + vat), I have my doubts about where that one is sourced too. I'll perhaps give them a ring next week and have a chat about it! Cheers, Martin
  5. Thanks for the links, but I was after anyone who'd had actual experience with them (good or bad!). I note the turner engineering site doesn't say who manufactures their camshaft so it could well be a britpart one for near double the price of other sources! My head says 'go for a reputable source' such as Piper or Kent, but my wallet disagrees, and if I can get a cam that's adequate for my needs (I don't use my cars that much, they're just toys really!) for £40 odd then all the better Cheers, Martin
  6. Has anyone had any actual experiences with Britpart camshafts? I know a lot of their stuff is toss, but I'd like to replace the cam on my Disco and Britpart are the cheapest (and yes, I'm aware that I'll need to do the followers too ). For not much more money I could have either an Allmakes or Bearmach cam, any experience of these either? Cheers, Martin
  7. Thanks for the advice so far. Wheels and tyres are all due to be changed (I have some good MT tyres on my Chevy, just need some 15" wheels for 'em!), and after 15 minutes of trying to start it, we realised that there was no fuel in the car, so that's fresh.... Doh! It had been parked up in 'park' as it's an auto - without the handbrake on. I guess I'll bite the bullet and pull that on when I've actually got it into my garage later this week - hopefully it'll release again without too much effort! I hadn't really thought about all the other pivot points - door hinges and the like, I'll look into them too, ta!
  8. Hi everyone, I've just bought a 1995 Discovery V8 that's been stood for three years (and isn't rusty!!). The engine is fine and will be getting a full service (had to start it to drive it onto the trailer - cranked it plenty with the king lead off to get the oil pumping round the system and then it started up no bother ) I suppose my question is, what would people recommend I do to it aside from the usual pre MOT checks (and putting a 'new' battery from the scrapyard on it!) My plan is to renew all the fluidy bits (engine oil, brake fluid, atf, coolant). What else is likely to need attention? I'm half tempted to strip the calipers and put new seals in, just because they are so cheap from Paddocks.... Any other ideas of things that might dry out without use? I'm open to all suggestions! Cheers, Martin
  9. Think your local filling station might be taking the pee - my local one has gone up from 59.9 to 64.9 in the last 4 or 5 months, not had to fill up for a while though, so don't know what it is with the VAT increase...
  10. Hi all, does anyone know what wheel backspacing would be suitable for running 31x10.5x15 tyres on a classic RR with a 2" lift? I've been offered some wheels with 5" backspacing, would that be ok? Cheers, Martin
  11. Thanks for the info - I did do a search but couldn't find anything relating to the actual temperature to operate the fan at. Had a look at the x-eng website and that did seem to answer the question - (fan on at 88, off at 83 or on at 92 and off at 87 deg c if anyone is searching in the future ). Paintman - yeah, I wasn't expecting much in the way of increased performance or economy, I mostly want it for wading, and for space under the bonnet! Cheers, Martin
  12. Hi, I'm going to be fitting a kenlowe (or similar but cheaper!) adjustabl thermostat/fan to my RRC, what temperature should I set the fan to come on at? What's factory spec for the viscous fan to start working to it's full potential? I'm sure once I've got a Haynes book I'll stop with the inane questions Cheers, Martin
  13. Thanks - it's steels I'm after (either modulars or 8 spokes) so should all be fine. In fact, I'm talking to someone about swapping the standard vogue alloys for a set of 8-spokes, so that'd make me happy! Cheers, Martin
  14. That's good news, thanks iomlt
