  1. Anyone go to the Adventure Overland show at Stratford last year (2016)? I went the previous 2 years and was a little disappointed in 2015. This year it's a choice between the LRO show at Peterborough the weekend before, or The AO show. My primary (Landy) interest is overlanding and wild camping. Always on the lookout for interesting gear, improvements on old ideas or seminars on useful subjects. Anyone got experience of both shows and can give me an opinion on which might be the best use of the fuel? I have to travel from Inverness.
  2. Just finished doing my ball joint this morning. Same snag with the lack of lip, but mine had been butchered by someone and only about 2/3 of it is there, so I guess the boot will come off sooner not later....wish I'd read this post before I did everything back up. I did manage to avoid the "fiddly swine of a job" with the top retainer ring, though. I looped 2 tie-wraps through the ring at 3 and 9 o'clock to the split in the ring. A simple job then to stretch it apart and slip it over the top of the boot. Felt quite pleased with myself for a minute or two.
  3. What are folks using to seal the panel joints? Apparently anything with silicone is to be avoided as it makes repainting etc impossible (and I might want to do that soon).
  4. Many thanks guys. Your replies saved me the worry that the MoT man might call for new springs or something.
  5. My '97 Defender 110 CSW seems to "lean" towards the passenger side a bit. Certainly, the rear passenger tyre is a bit closer to the wheel arch than on the driver's side. I've just read (on a site pushing Old Man Emu shocks and springs) that this is normal. Can anyone comment on this please? If I need to do something, any advice as to what to do, how difficult will it be etc?
  6. You can put a small bungee net over the cover to stop it "ballooning" and it then gives you somewhere to shove a tow strop or something similar, which also stops the cover blowing up. The biggest problem I found with fitting mine was trying to release the bonnet catch with all the extra weight on it (not the release - used a clothes peg to hold that out). In the end I removed it and fitted rubber bonnet stays instead.
  7. That looks like a very clear diagram. Can I ask where it came from?
  8. I had the same problem last winter. Tried all the usual things but eventually found the multi-connector to the fan (near the back of the passenger side wing, under the bonnet) had had water in it and the whole lot had burnt out. It just fell to bits when I wiggled it. Just cut all the wires out and used bullet connectors to join it all up again. The power feed looked a bit black but it has held up OK. 5 minutes to fix but 3 hours to find!
