  1. I had the exact same prob with my wifes car a couple of years back with lambda only being high and I tried a spare lambda with no effect and it turned out to be a small leak on the inlet manifold and found hairspray or household polish useful to locate it.
  2. I also had the same prob with my 90 which has the round style reverse light and it was the terminals under the bulb in the bulb holder shorting together, it was hard to fault find as it only shorted whilst the bulb was in so when looking without it in it seemed fine as already said I'd disconnect the reverse light and see if it still blows to rule it out.
  3. I had the exact same problem with my D2 a couple of weeks back, a new genuine actuator was only £70 delivered from island 4x4 and took under an hour to change, with only a set of torx keys a couple of spanners and 13mm and 10mm sockets
  4. I could be wrong here but I'm fairly sure the ratio in the ird wasn't altered, I believe it was the diff ratios to put less strain on the vcu ird. After looking into it on the wifes freelander I removed the drive flange and pinion from the Ird and fitted a blanking plate then left the rear prop off.
  5. I would go with the one from Tayna and will do when the time comes for our Td5, I have used Tayna 3 times now and I can't fault the service with it being on the doorstep the next morning even when ordered late in the afternoon.
  6. as scatt says remove the lining and re seal the sunroofs but also take the plastic corners out off the gutter when you get it out and reseal them back in too. seals are still available but only for the disco 2 but they're the same anyway and are about £20 each.
  7. have you got the correct cap on the header tank? as the water will boil if the cap isn't letting the system get to the correct pressure.
  8. personally I always start with draining the diff oil and if nothing comes out with the oil then I carefuly put my finger in the drain hole to feel around at the bottom, everytime I've found a failed diff I found remains in the bottom first.
  9. I work as a HGV fitter and have a CP734 which gets used in anger every day and for eg yesterday it was used to pull in leaf spring bushes on a 32 tonner, It has only gone wrong once after a couple of years of abuse and I sent it away and it came back like new and that was a couple of years ago and it's still going strong. I also run a battery snap on gun which undoes over tightened wheel nuts on the landy without issue or crankshaft pulley bolts and is much easier not having an air line attatched although the cp gets into smaller places and has a bit more grunt.
  10. thats wierd I snapped exactly the same part on my mates disco today, I also took the stat cover off but used a blow torch to melt the remains out
  11. Sorry if I babble but this is just my 2p worth, in my job I have to inspect & prepare and present vehicles for mot 75% of them are HGV so have to go to VOSA for test and are expected to pass first time and the first time pass rate HAS to be over 90% over the year otherwise you start getting visits from the men in white coats or worse if it doesn't improve or they find problems during the spot checks they reduce the amount of vehicles which we can run meaning drivers lose jobs and me if I fook em up Anyway I have had a truck in the w/shop for 2 days prep and as it was backing out to leave for its appointment with vosa the entire lights down oneside went down with a wiring fault even tho it had been without problem before hand then another only last week passing its test then blowing a major air pipe to the brakes just as it pulled out from the mot lane but it was fine when tested and had passed so the pass stood. I presented a paj for test myself without inspection due to lack of time and it passed without even advisory only for the front brake pads to get down to the metal the following day. The lights/washers etc cannot come into any investigation vosa do on the garage in question but the rust can upto 3 months as you said but there is the possibility that if someone was trying to pull a fast one to get an mot could it have been covered with filler/paint which has fell out? also testers are not meant to dig around only tap as far as I'm aware and they cannot remove fitted covers. If VOSA decide your test was illigitimate then it will be voided but then I guess you'll have a good case from where you bought it from. Was there a warranty? sorry again for the babble and I'm not in support of the garage just throwing out possibles I hope it works out.
  12. +1 vote for what reb said, I also fitted the one in the link as b/p ones are known to be poo
  13. It's a simple job to do only 2 bolts and 2 pipes takes around 15 mins max, make sure you use a little sealent when refitting, I fitted a delphi one to mine so I only had to do it once although they are a little dearer
  14. 1 more vote for the lift pump as the 200 tdi has been known to run fine with a duff lift pump until the fuel filter is changed or disturbed then it will not be able to supply enough fuel to fill the filter enough which is why it was prob ok before removing from the disco. If you remove the lift pump then you can usually feel if they are knackared as normally there will be little resistance from the lever apart from the tiny return spring, this is because the lever detaches from the diaphram inside.
  15. I needed a fuel filter for my 200tdi 90 in a hurry and had a service kit for the wifes td5 disco standing by so I robbed the Mahle fuel filter and fitted it to the 90 and it worked a treat for a month before I started having fuel starvation issues, the filter was full of sludge and the only thing I can put it down to is finer filtration and the 90 tank having crud in it that don't normally get stopped by the normal filter, needless to say I flushed the tank before changing back to the right filter.
  16. Hi Ronnie I was worried that the pipe looked a smaller diameter myself so I ended up cutting mine up and welding on a new pipe the same diameter straight on the back of the flange then drilled a hole through the new bit and welded on a small pipe for the breather (I used oil cooler pipe)then heated and bent it, it's as good as new now. One thing that may save you some money, your rubber filler pipe reduces down in size after only 2" so if the new neck is slightly longer it may reach once you've cut the wide bit off. cheers Lee
  17. Hi I'm having the same problem with my 86 def and was wondering also if the later ones fitted as the correct one is £160 plus vat , anyway I was scouting through ebay and found a coversion kit for the later type to the early one which basically consisted of the later pipe and later cap, not sure if the site will let me post links yet but http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-90-FUEL-FILLER-AND-LOCKABLE-CAP-/280594954739?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4154c339f3 if not do a search for item no. 280594954739. I'm not involved in this item in anyway but was doing a search for info on my problem and found your post so thought I'd share. Cheers Lee
