I have just bought a Disco 2. It has Goodyears on the front and a new set of Achilles Desert Hawks on the rear. Difficult to find any advice on whether the Achilles are good tryes or something "cheap and cheerful" that I should replace. If it had no tyres (!), I would probably aim for something like BF Goodrich all terrains - mainly for all-year on-road use but including winter driving in Scotland. Any thoughts? Many thanks. Donald

I'm about to buy a 2003/04 Disco 2. Given it costs more to buy one with ACE, I'm interested to know whether people think ACE gives better handling and comfort than a cheaper Disco 2 without ACE but perhaps with Konis fitted instead? Thanks.

Does anyone know if it is possible to modify the TD5 gearshift to make it more slick and precise, as an alternative to an automatic conversion? Thanks.

Does anyone know whether manufacturing quality (particularly in relation to anti-corrosion treatment) has changed on Defenders over the last few years? For example, would there be any difference between a 2006 TD5 and a 2007 TDCi? Or between a 2002 TD5 and a 2006 TD5? I'm wondering whether there are particular model years to aim for, if looking for a long-term buy. Thanks.
