  1. After looking at cambelt kits for my 1991, 200tdi H reg discovery. How long would it take a competant mechanic to replace the cambelt if it was a straight forward job, and no stubborn bits to kindly pursued to come off? many thanks Paul
  2. I managed to get the motor finally to turn over & start by finally jump starting it & then leaving it to charge overnight. it seem's to work for now, but probably the battery is on its last legs, and in need of replacement for the mot. many thanks for peoples advise!
  3. I have a non starting 1991 H reg Disco 1 200 Tdi. Its completely standard & has prediominatly been used for green laning since bought 5 yrears ago. I have had to lay the vehicle up since last may due to being made redundant, and not being about to re new the insurance. Like a fool I left the vehicle standing until christmas without turning the engine over. Evidently I recharged the battery for 2days on slow charge & attempted to turn the engine over. All I got was a mechanical ticking noise from the engine & the thing wouldn`t turn over. It has fuel, about half a tank. Its done 245000 miles. Any idea's? could it be the fuel solenoid valve sticking closed or be something else? I'm not that mechanically minded so bear with me. It has an after market imobiller fitted,, which appears to be working fine. Have I left it a tad too long? . many thanks
  4. I have a 200tdi, H reg standard disco 1, that's done about 220,000 miles. Thers's was no history with the vehicle when i bought it, and i haven`t changed the clutch, in the 3years i have owned it. Iys recently passed through an mot, but have just noticed that the clutch may be on its way out. the symptoms are that the revs can be be abit iratic sometimes amd not keeping a steady reading when at constant speed, othertimes it can be normal. All i want to know is how long would it take to change a clucth? is it an engine out job, or can it be done with the engine in situ? How much for a clutch? I was planning to get the garage to replace due to being a mechanic novice, but the garage are willing for me to get parts for them. thanks Paul
  5. I have a 1991, H reg, 200tdi Disco 1. Its standard, and completed about 220,000miles.It has Air-con that doesnt work due to the belt snapping 18months ago. I bought this vehicle with little or no service history with it, about 3 years ago, and has just past another MOT. I have got to assume that the cambelt requires changing along with the water pump. I understand MM4X4 do a Cam belt kit at resonable price etc. but is a long time consuming job to do, or is it fairly straight forward job to do? While competing these things, is there any other things that require doing while the front end is off? thanks
  6. I have a discovery 200tdi, 1991 H reg, that i usually use for green laning. While off roading a couple of weeks ago, i ripped the gutter mount off the vehicle, while the whip aerial is still okay and i plan to re use. Members of group i was with mentioned that it was a common fault with the gutter mount aerial.and low branches etc, and that an aerial mount on the spare wheel carrier om the back door is a solution. Going on thunderpole/CB4x4 neither do or stock it. Any body have a solution to where i might source one or infact have 1 lying around there garage? thanks Paul
  7. I have an issue with my passenger side rear brake light. The driver's side brake light works fine, but for the last 6months the passenger brake light never seems to want to come on. when you switch the lights on, both rear bvrake/light bulbs come on, , but when you put your foot on the brake only the driver's side brake light comes on. i've replaced the bulb today, as it had blown about a week or so ago. but the brake light still doesn`t come on. Any idea's why it isn`t working? as its bugging me, and i don`t want to get pulled over for not having a brake light not working. Its a 1991, discovery 1, H reg, 200 Tdi, completly standard, except for a sump guard. thanks in advance for advise!!
  8. I have a 1991, 200tdi H reg discovery 1. the car has completed 215 500 miles. its not a regularily every day go to work car, but used for greenlaning and most weekends to get the fluids running. Over the last couple of months the car has had issues with fueling issues. It has often refused to start even when there is a full tank of diesel, and the battery is fully charged. It has had a diesel cut off solenoid (replaced 2.5months ago), and last month the diesel lift pump was replaced along with a new fuel filter when the vehicle refused to start again. the same symptons have re-appeared again. the vehicle lights up like usual, tries to tun over but doesn`t fire up. any ideas? When the garage replaced the lift pump & fuel filter they remarked that the filter was full of crsp (the vehicle had had a service last october with filter change last november for the MOT asn had only done 3500 miles since this failure). Any ideas what might be know wrong with it? The vehicle has a full tank of diesel. Thanks
  9. I`m interested in completeing a 2" lift on my 1991 Discovery, 200Tdi. I`ve got access to the springs & shocks, is there anything else need changing/needing work on? Is it a matter of of putting the new shocks & springs on and away we go? or are there other things that need addressing? Thanks
  10. I have a 1991, Discovery 200Tdi, Standard. I`ve fitted 235/70/R16 Colway Mud terrains on standard L/R Steel rims to the vehicle & on test driving it, find that the Front Tyres rub the front radius arms on tight lock, to do i need to fit spacers or just live with it? Previously i had L/R Alloys that came with the vehicle with 205/85/R16 on. Thanks
  11. I have a 1991 standard Discovery 1, standard, H reg, 200 tdi. Up antil recently i had a air con (that worked!) that worked on the control settings. and according to what speed you wanted (off, 1,2, or 3) it worked. but when selecting any of the three other options on the heater selector other than air con you got nothing, unless you selected the air con fuction then you could have all the air con at what ever speed. you want. there is a small trickle of warm air comming out of the windscreen vents once the engine has warmed up but it doesn`t feed in through the vents at all. no to de missed the car it takes a long time! any solutions? could it be a matter of a fuse blown or the fan motor packed up (if so is it an easy job?) thanks
  12. I have a 1991 Discovery, 200 Tdi, h reg. I bought a guardsman galvanised steel steering guard from first four off road, an come fitting it today came across an issue with fitting it. Its a pig of a job doing it by yourself, But it is attached by the bumper mounts along with two mounts located behind on the chassis. on one side there is a steering linkage, while on the otherside i can easily locate the bolt nad attach it to the guard. The mount with the steering linkage is mounted to, i can undo the nut and attach the guard, but is it safe to do so, and such it be tightened to any set figure? Any help is much appreciated. thanks
